Sophie Smith opened her sleepy eyes to find Asher Land looking at her with a worried expression.
"It’s so cold, why are you sitting on the ground?"
"Oh, I’m fine." She got up, "Are you hungry? I’ll go downstairs and ask Nanny Garcia to prepare breakfast."
He shook his head.
"Are you feeling unwell? I’ll call Doctor Lewis to co over." Seeing that his complexion was not great, Sophie quickly asked.
He shook his head again.
"Why aren’t you talking?" Sophie wasn’t used to Asher being so quiet like this.
"I’m fine, don’t worry, these dozen lashes are nothing to ."
The reason he remained silent was because her sudden concern for him made him feel unexpectedly favored.
"You don’t hate that much, right?" There was a hint of expectation in his eyes; he so wanted to hear her say yes.
Sophie lowered her head, thinking for a long ti. At this mont, when he was in the most pain, she didn’t want to disappoint him, especially when she couldn’t even figure out her own true feelings.
She nodded.
The mont she looked up, she happened to see the smile on his lips.

A few days later, Asher Land’s wounds showed so improvent, and they were gradually healing, which eased Sophie’s worries.
She suddenly rembered that tomorrow was Asher’s birthday; should she give him a gift?
Hmm, she should, because his family had returned to Europe because of her, leaving him lonely on his birthday, which was quite pitiful. So, buying a gift would serve as an apology.
She went to a boutique. Her hand swept across a row of glass cabinets and finally settled on a deep blue checkered tie.
"Miss, who is the tie for? This tie is the latest CN model, a global limited edition with only three pieces."
"Alright, I’ll take that one." Sophie wasn’t in the mood to care about the limited edition. She handed over the card to the counter clerk, but then she thought that choosing a gift for Asher like this might be too perfunctory, especially using his card?
He had given her plenty of cards before, but she hadn’t used them. The price of that tie was steep, and she couldn’t afford to pay that much.
Sophie bought one of the three ties, not knowing that Asher would later buy and destroy the other two—this was Asher’s idea of the so-called one-and-only.
Looking at the tie box, Sophie smiled, genuinely curious about Asher’s reaction to her giving him a gift.
He should be happy, right?
Sophie shook her head, wondering what was happening to her. Did she care about Asher’s feelings?

As Sophie walked out of the boutique, she didn’t notice the figure standing behind her.
Wyatt Sterling watched her from a distance, hands in pockets, as she got into the car and saw it speed away.
There was an indescribable sadness on his face, as if destined, that he could only watch her from afar.
Yet, he was not resigned.
Why could Asher Land be so selfish to possess her? To incarcerate him? She hated Asher Land, didn’t she? Just because of Asher’s authoritarianism, she dared not leave him, and he clearly rembered her saying she could never love him in this life.
If that’s the case, he would stop at nothing to take her away from Asher Land.
