Early in the morning, Oliver Johnson had everything arranged, transferring Christopher Smith to the best hospital in Eastern City and using his connections to find the best dical team.
Sophie Smith sat by the bedside, looking utterly haggard.
She hated herself imnsely, wondering why she let her father beco like this.
Christopher Smith lay on the bed, as thin as a stick, his temples grayed, and forehead lined with wrinkles of varying depth. He wasn’t even fifty, yet he looked like an old man.
"Dad, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. You have to get better..." She gripped Christopher Smith’s hands tightly, tears uncontrollably streaming from the corners of her eyes.
A pair of large hands landed on her shoulders. She looked up to et Oliver Johnson’s worried gaze.
"The Chief Doctor is coming over to do a comprehensive examination on your dad. This is the best hospital with the best doctors. Don’t worry too much."
Sophie nodded heavily. She still wanted to believe that there could indeed be miracles in the world.
The Chief Doctor, wearing a white coat and black-frad glasses, conducted a thorough examination on Christopher Smith. His expression wasn’t very good, and Sophie’s heart inexplicably tightened.
The Chief Doctor was about to say sothing, but Oliver Johnson gave him a aningful warning glance.
Sophie didn’t notice and only looked eagerly at the doctor, hoping to hear the answer she longed for.
"Miss Smith, you don’t need to worry. The patient’s condition is still stable. As long as he cooperates with the treatnt, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem."
Although the Chief Doctor said this, he thought to himself, with the condition deteriorating this much, the patient might not have long to live.
"Really? Thank you, doctor. Don’t worry about the costs. Please do your best to cure my dad."
"Yes, treating patients is our duty as doctors. Miss Smith, don’t worry."
After that, he advised Sophie on so precautions and left with his team.
"The doctor said so, so don’t worry too much. You didn’t sleep last night, take a rest now. I’ll look after him here."
"Mr. Johnson, you’ve helped so much, it feels bad to trouble you further..."
"I’m doing it voluntarily."
He virtually pushed her out of the ward.
She lay in the room, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
With her eyes open, she blankly stared at the ceiling, still unable to believe how things had turned out.
She called her company and asked Sunny for an indefinite leave. Although Sunny was puzzled, she agreed, knowing about Sophie and Asher Land’s relationship.
She couldn’t stay in bed for long. She quickly got up and headed to Christopher Smith’s ward.
"Sophie, why don’t you rest a little longer?"
"Eva, why are you here?" Sophie was a bit surprised.
"Uncle Smith is so seriously ill, it’s right for to co and help. You can’t manage all by yourself."
"But, what about your work?"
"You think only you can take indefinite leave? I asked for one too!"

Looking at Eva Miller, Sophie’s heart was full of gratitude. Having a friend like this was truly her blessing.
