Christopher Smith was tied up with a sturdy rope in a place that seed very dilapidated, with a trace of fresh blood on his face. He had his eyes closed, lips parted, looking on the verge of death.
She had no ti to think deeply, her hands trembling as she dialed Asher Land’s number.
"What’s wrong?" He spoke gently from the other end of the phone.
"Asher..." Her voice was choked with emotion, "Can you co back, my dad is in trouble!"
"What?" Asher darted out of his office, leaving his jacket behind, "Don’t worry, I’ll be right back."
He didn’t hang up the phone, continuously comforting her.
He quickly returned to the Land Family ho.
"What exactly happened?" He held her frail body, asking anxiously.
Sophie Smith was equally anxious, speaking with a hint of confusion.
She showed him the photos on her phone and conveyed the content of the call from the unfamiliar man.
Asher’s sharp eyes already showed a sign of understanding.
"Slope Ridge, right? Let’s go there now." She got into the car with him, and he drove fast, making Sophie inexplicably nervous.
Asher was wearing a Bluetooth headset, talking to Robert Williams over the phone.
"I’m on my way to Slope Ridge now. Send so extra n over, have them ambush nearby, and don’t act without my command." In this crucial mont, even as urgency lood, Asher’s mind remained calm.
He glanced at the distraught woman beside him, feeling uneasy in his heart.
This situation had originated because of him.
He gripped the steering wheel with one hand, placing his other hand over hers.
"Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, everything will be fine." He comforted her aloud.
She nodded vigorously.
The car soon stopped near Slope Ridge.
It was a remote suburb with extrely narrow roads that were impassable by vehicles. Sophie followed Asher out of the car, trudging along a sowhat muddy path.
Along the way, he held her hand tightly, not letting go.
Sophie reached the location the man on the phone had ntioned, an abandoned water tower about ten ters tall, where Christopher was tied to the top level.
A dense crowd stood around the water tower, and a person who seed to be their leader approached them.
After a search of Asher Land, confirming he carried no weapons, they allowed them inside.
The water tower was tall; Sophie, carrying her belly, climbed a few steps but was slightly out of breath, her feet heavy as if filled with lead.
Asher bent down, lifting her horizontally into his arms, and walked step by step, steadily taking her up.
When they reached the top, Sophie saw the scene before her, suddenly having her vision darken, her mind involuntarily going blank.
Christopher was suspended with bound hands from a beam, his head drooping, blood on his body, uncertain if he was alive or dead.
There were about thirty people on the water tower top, led by a young man in a black suit holding an iron rod, a strange smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
"Henry Johnson, what the hell do you want?" Asher roared in anger, eyes with a bloodthirsty impulse.
Henry Johnson gave a cold snort, advancing with the iron rod in hand.
"Asher Land, what else can I do? Hush Sky is about to fall into your hands. What else can I do?" Henry laughed heartily, and a few seconds later, abruptly stopped laughing, "I’m just making a desperate struggle now; how could I ever be a match for you, Asher Land?"
