Sophie Smith heard his voice was too calm, a sense of foreboding arose in her heart.

With him here, he wouldn’t let Nathan Land touch her. But if he wasn’t around, who knows what Nathan Land might do to harm her behind his back? Nathan Land wouldn’t let her off so easily.
"Asher, you know keeping by your side does you no good. Why won’t you let go?" Her voice involuntarily rose, "Do you have to make yourself completely disabled to be satisfied? Do you know your left hand is ruined? Do you still want to..."
"Enough!" He interrupted her, displeased, "So what if my left hand is ruined? I don’t care."
"Asher, can you please be rational? Make the right decision and marry Irene."
