"Irene, I’m telling you right now, there’s absolutely no possibility between us. If you don’t want to grow to dislike you, then stop targeting Sophie."
Last ti, when she drugged Sophie, he had already investigated it with Luke. He didn’t bla her then, as he considered their past relationship, but who knew she’d only beco more aggressive now.
Stop targeting Sophie?
Irene let out a cold laugh. Was she expected to just hand him over to Sophie? And then conveniently wish them happiness and everlasting love?
"Brother Asher, sorry, I can’t do that."
She sat back down at the table, steadying her emotions, pretending to eat breakfast nonchalantly.
Asher Land held back a surge of temper, not wanting to lose it in front of her. He tried his best to contain himself and sat at a distance from her.
The maids, seeing the tense atmosphere between the two, quickly retreated far away, not daring to approach the dining table.
Half an hour later, Sophie Smith ca down from upstairs. Seeing Asher Land and Irene by the table, she almost instinctively turned to leave, but Asher’s gaze landed on her before she could turn away.
He had already seen her, so there was no point in hiding.
"Co over, have so breakfast." His voice softened considerably.
Sophie nodded and walked down the stairs, sitting next to him.
He handed her a cup of warm milk, looking at her with indulgent eyes, seeing a trace of fatigue on her face.
Irene felt uncomfortable seeing their loving morning interaction. She slamd her cup on the table, pulled out her chair, and walked out.
Sophie was about to speak, but he interrupted her.
"Ignore her, just eat your breakfast."
Sophie didn’t say much more, silently drinking the milk in her cup under his intense gaze.
Soon after, Luke Land also ca in.
Luke sat down unceremoniously at the table and ordered the maid to bring him breakfast.
"What are you up to so early in the morning?" Asher glanced at Luke, who was eating heartily, and shook his head.
"Just here for breakfast, what’s the problem?" Luke didn’t seem to care, "Where’s that brat Irene? Did you two lovebirds here together scare her off this morning?"
"If you don’t say anything, no one will assu you’re mute."
"Actually, that girl is quite composed. Sophie, you should learn from her." Luke sincerely remarked. Although she was a bit headstrong, considering Asher and Sophie’s constant displays of affection, it was comndable that she hadn’t moved back to the Morton Family.
"Hmm?" Sophie didn’t know what he was talking about.
"What I an is, don’t..." Luke thought for a mont but stopped. Actually, he wanted to say, be more generous, and don’t fight with Asher over his past with Irene. Asher was in a difficult position now.
However, yesterday he also told Irene to ntion her past with Asher less in front of Sophie, so saying sothing now seed inappropriate.
"Don’t what?" Sophie pursued.
"Oh, nothing..."
"Don’t leave things half-said, just say whatever it is," Sophie put down her milk and looked at Luke seriously, sensing sothing was off about him.
...
[Sigh, whether everyone still loves Asher Land or not, at least the author still does...]
