"But why don’t I believe it?" He kept staring at her right cheek. Didn’t she look in the mirror and realize that her right cheek was slightly swollen?
"Huh?" Sophie Smith awkwardly put down her chopsticks and saw Nolan Davis’s puzzled gaze on her face. Was there sothing wrong with her face?
She took out her phone and looked, and sure enough...
She couldn’t explain anything, so she just put down her phone and continued silently eating the food in her bowl.
"Should I be grateful that this ti you went to the Land Family, you only got slapped once?"
Sophie knew that this definitely wasn’t true. He was probably just being sarcastic toward her.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Nolan felt a bit annoyed. She could remain calm in front of him, so why couldn’t he?
This woman could really sway him.
He put so vegetables into her bowl; whatever he picked, she ate.
At first, Nolan thought her appetite was okay, so he didn’t think much of it and kept serving her more, until eventually, Sophie found it unbearable.
"Mr. Davis, I, I can’t eat anymore..."
"Hmm?" Nolan stopped what he was doing and looked at her struggling expression, suddenly realizing sothing.
She was just accommodating him earlier. Her reason for accommodating was because she felt guilty toward him inside.
Her inherently kind nature wouldn’t change no matter what.
Nolan no longer forced her and put down his chopsticks.
"I’m full too. If you’re tired, go upstairs and rest."
"Okay." Sophie turned upstairs. Actually, she had been exhausted for a while but managed to keep him company during dinner, even though she had no appetite. But since he served the dishes, she ended up eating them all.
He really didn’t like the way they interacted.
He knew that in front of Asher Land, she might act capriciously, make a fuss, sleep when she wanted, and eat when she felt like it.
He deeply wished that soday she could be that way with him, just without any awkwardness.

After showering, Sophie ca out of the bathroom to find Eva Miller already sprawled out comfortably on her bed.
"What are you doing? It’s so late, why aren’t you sleeping?"
"I want to chat with you..." Eva Miller playfully stroked her long hair and reclined on the bed. "Co on, hurry up..."
Sophie almost felt sick to her stomach from Eva Miller’s odd tone but reluctantly climbed onto the bed.
"Speak up, I’m tired."
"Haha, nothing important, just can’t sleep and want to chat with you."
"Eva Miller, you!" Sophie was about to be driven mad by this annoying friend of hers. "If you have nothing to say, quickly get out of my room!"
"Sophie, why do I feel like your temper’s gotten worse since you started following President Land? You used to be so gentle, so gentle..." Eva Miller reminisced. "It must be President Land spoiling you; otherwise, you couldn’t possibly have such a bad temper..."
"You keep talking!"
"What kind of sins did President Land commit in his past life to end up with a woman like you who’s got such a terrible temper?" Eva Miller made a face full of disdain.
"It’s him who’s got a terrible temper. I’m the one who committed sins ending up with him."
Alright, she was contradicting herself.
The noise from their playful banter grew louder in the room, even managing to pass through the tightly shut door to the outside. Nolan stood at the door, listening to the laughter and noise coming from inside, as a wave of bitterness washed over his heart.
