"You, you’re awake?" She turned around, her eyes filled with a trace of unease.
"Early in the morning, what are you doing?" He draped his coat over her shoulders.
"Oh, nothing..."
Asher Land shook his head helplessly. Sotis, they still weren’t entirely honest with each other. As he approached, he glanced at the computer and noticed she was looking up ways to treat his left arm. He knew she must be more worried about him now than before.
He didn’t expose her lie; there was no need, of course.
...
"Miss Irene, you’re back!" an excited female voice sounded in the hall, "Sir, Ma’am, Miss Irene is back."
Colton Morton ca out of his upstairs study, stood at the railing on the second floor, and looked down to see his precious daughter sitting on the sofa, fuming. On closer inspection, her eyes were red from holding back tears.
"What happened, Irene?" Colton Morton walked down the stairs with a smile, "Have you decided to co ho?"
He understood his daughter’s personality. For Asher Land, she hadn’t been ho for a long ti. Although he was sowhat reluctant, he had no choice.
"Who made you angry again?" Seeing her pitiful look, Colton Morton couldn’t help but frown.
"Who else but Brother Asher." Irene sniffed, "Dad, Brother Asher, he doesn’t want anymore."
As she spoke, tears began to fall from Irene’s eyes. "When Uncle Land was still alive, he had so scruples and didn’t dare get too close to that woman. Now that Uncle Land is gone, he doesn’t regard at all."
Irene just kept pouring her grievances out to Colton Morton, like a daughter complaining about her husband’s mistreatnt after returning to her parents’ ho.
Although, she and Asher Land were far from reaching that sort of relationship.
"Brother Asher has already brought her back to the Land Family. The next step should be to marry her, right?"
"Marry?" Colton Morton’s face darkened, "How is that possible? He promised he would marry you."
"Dad, stop dreaming." Irene let out a self-mocking laugh, "I already said, he initially agreed to marry because of Uncle Land’s coercion, to protect that woman. Now..."
Irene didn’t continue to speak clearly, but Colton Morton already understood.
"I’ll call him right now and have him co over. I want him to explain things." How could Colton Morton bear to see Irene wronged?
As soon as Asher Land answered the call, Colton Morton got straight to the point.
"Asher, co to my place. I have sothing to discuss with you."
Sothing to discuss?
Asher Land raised an eyebrow, "Uncle Morton, I’m at the company right now, and I’m quite busy. If it’s not very important, let’s just talk over the phone."
"It can’t be explained over the phone. No matter what, you must co to the Morton Family this afternoon."
With that, Colton Morton didn’t give Asher Land a chance to reply and directly hung up the phone.
"Dad, Brother Asher, he probably won’t co." Irene was uncertain. She knew what kind of person Asher Land was. Why would he easily listen to others?
"He will co," Colton Morton said with unusual certainty.
After all, he had helped Asher Land before. Although Asher had a difficult temper and wasn’t easily swayed, he was at least soone who rembered kindness.
You know, if it weren’t for his willingness to pose as a witness to Nathan Land’s will, how would the Golden Era Consortium have ended up in the hands of the three brothers?
