Colton Morton was breathing a bit unsteadily; Asher Land’s words were clearly ant to embarrass him.
Colton Morton knew about Asher having a woman and a child outside; in fact, he understood this matter very thoroughly. But as soone who lives in high society, he also knew that it’s not uncommon for successful n to have won outside.
Today’s events were sowhat beyond his expectations. If he had known that Asher would have such an attitude towards his and Irene’s marriage, he wouldn’t have invited Irene’s uncles in advance. He originally wanted to show off a bit in front of them, but now it seed he only made them witness a fiasco.
Sure enough, in private, so uncles were already whispering among themselves.
"Brother Asher..." Irene Morton carefully tugged Asher Land’s sleeve under the table.
Asher Land decided to stop there.
"Uncle Morton, I’ll say this one last ti here: my marriage with Irene can only be called off. But you have been kind to , rest assured, from now on I, Asher Land, am willing to do my best to aid the developnt of Morton Clan Group. I will fulfill my promise." Asher Land spoke firmly.
He knew Colton Morton’s eager desire to form a marriage alliance with the Land Family was essentially to ensure the stability and prosperity of the Morton Clan Group. Now he had made a promise here, if Colton Morton trusted him, then Asher Land would certainly fulfill his commitnt.
Colton Morton’s expression eased considerably; Asher’s willingness to contribute to the developnt of Morton Clan Group undoubtedly reassured him.
Actually, he had considered that Asher’s feelings for Sophie Smith were not simple. If Irene insisted on marrying Asher, life might not be easy. He cherished his daughter and did not want her to suffer any grievances.
Dinner continued, though inevitably a bit awkward.
After the al, Asher Land chatted casually with Colton Morton for a while before preparing to return to the Land Family.
Irene Morton, without a second thought, followed Asher Land’s footsteps out of the room.
"Irene!" Colton Morton called out to Irene.
"Dad, is there anything else?"
Colton Morton felt a bit displeased; he couldn’t understand what had led his daughter to be so infatuated with Asher Land. Despite Asher making his stance clear at the dinner table, she still shalessly followed him; what was she thinking?
"Stay ho tonight."
"I can’t." Irene pouted, watching Asher Land as he walked further away, a hint of urgency in her eyes.
"If I don’t go back with him to the Land Family, in the future, I won’t even have a single chance."
"Irene, wake up!" Colton Morton said displeased, "What’s the point of a girl clinging shalessly to soone?"
"Dad..." Irene was a bit shocked, "How, how could you say such a thing? You know, I’ve loved Brother Asher since I was little; how can you ask to give up now?"
"Irene, to be honest with you, in the past I wanted you and Asher to be together, wanted Asher to marry you, simply to stabilize the Morton Clan Group. But just now Asher said he would do his best for the Morton Clan Group, and I believe him. So it’s no longer necessary for you to marry him."
Irene Morton felt like she had been hit by a bolt from the blue. In her father’s eyes, she was nothing more than a tool to be used?
Now, even her father refused to help her out; was she dood to never be able to have him in her lifeti?
Tears shimred in her eyes; she turned and ran away vigorously, her figure fading into the night.
Colton Morton gripped his fists tightly, feeling intensely pained for his daughter.
