There was an indescribable annoyance in his heart. "Don’t talk to about this."
"Brother Asher, are you avoiding this?" Irene Morton’s lips curled into a self-mocking smile. "Even if I treated you well over the past four years, in your heart, I can’t compare to that woman, right? Don’t forget, when you needed soone the most, it was by your side, not her!" Irene shouted hoarsely.
"It was who stayed with you for treatnt, and who took a bullet for you! Why do you treat like this, why do you dislike so much?"
"That’s enough." His voice carried an indescribable weariness. "Over these years, I rember all the good you’ve done for and your sacrifices, but I’m sorry, the kind of reciprocation you want, I can’t give."
Irene didn’t want to argue with him any further now; every argunt only led to heartbreak again and again.
For the ti being, she decided to compromise this ti.
She dejectedly walked upstairs.
Asher Land remained seated in the hall. Just now, Irene had extinguished a cigarette for him, and now, he picked up another one and lit it.
These past four years had indeed been a tragedy for him.
In the first year, he beca a vegetative state, lying in bed for a whole year.
The second year, he woke up but could only spend it in a wheelchair.
The third year, he underwent various surgeries and chemotherapy, the operating table almost becoming his bed.
The fourth year, an assassination attempt almost sent him to the afterlife, but Irene was the one who took the bullet for him.
A sardonic smile appeared on his lips; that car accident really made him wish for death.
He doesn’t deny that over these four years, Irene’s kindness was evident, but deep in his heart, there was still another woman.
A few days ago, he saw in a television magazine that she was returning to the entertainnt industry. Her words, ’My boyfriend is the third young master of the Golden Era Consortium, and the forr Asia Region CEO of Golden Era, Asher Land,’ did make his heart leap. It seed he had mustered enough courage to find her. Fortunately, he was now a whole person again, because years ago, with the disability he had, he’d probably be too afraid to see her.
Even though he had once been proud and arrogant, untouchable, after experiencing that tragic car accident, he had developed a certain fear in his heart, yet he wasn’t even sure what it was he feared.
How has she been these past four years? Is she doing well?
He sat until past two in the morning before he went upstairs to rest. Passing by Irene Morton’s room, he noticed her door was not fully closed, with a warm yellow light glowing inside.
Standing at the door, he vaguely heard her sobbing and whimpering sounds.
After hesitating for a long ti, he pushed the door open.
Irene, hearing the movent, looked towards the door with surprise and called out, "Brother Asher."
"It’s so late already, why aren’t you sleeping?"
"I can’t sleep..." she mumbled.
There was a hint of indiscernible emotion in Asher Land’s eyes. When it ca to Irene, he truly didn’t know what to do with her.
When he beca severely ill, it was she who ticulously took care of him. Now that he was better, would he just turn around and abandon her?
"Go to bed early tonight. I have an important person to et tomorrow. If you have ti, co with ."
An important person?
Irene knew from Robert Williams about his recent plans and saw his schedule. If nothing unexpected happens, tomorrow, he’d be eting with Luke Land to see a renowned headhunter in the industry (a headhunter is soone who sources talent, tasked with helping businesses find excellent personnel).
