Inside the single apartnt.
Sophie Smith just got ho from work when she received a call from Julia Brown.
"Sophie, it’s terrible, what should I do?" Julia’s voice sounded like she was about to cry.
"What’s the matter?" Sophie asked while changing out of her high heels into comfortable slippers.
"Sophie, you can scold to death, I...," Julia’s voice was shaking, "I lost Alexander..."
"What?" Sophie’s voice involuntarily grew louder, filled with anxiety, "Where are you now? When did Alexander go missing? Did you call the police?"
"I called the police... but they said unless it’s been more than twenty-four hours, they won’t open a case..."
Sophie’s heart was in turmoil, she ran outside in her slippers.
She sprinted all the way downstairs.
She was about to go to the parking lot to get her car when a familiar, steady voice stopped her.
"Where are you going?"
She turned around in surprise and saw Asher Land standing behind her in a suit, smiling at her, and holding a child in his arms...
He slowly approached her, who was still not fully recovered from the shock.
"What’s wrong? Walking so fast, aren’t you afraid of falling?" Asher Land looked down at her flip-flops and couldn’t help frowning.
"Why are you with Alexander?"
How could he be with him? Well, it was really a long story, this little rascal nearly tired him out.
"Let’s go upstairs first, I’ll tell you later."
"Okay."
Sophie’s anxious heart finally cald down, she walked ahead of Asher Land to open the door of the apartnt.
Asher Land bent down his tall figure, gently laid Alexander on the bed, and carefully covered him with a quilt.
Indeed, for these four years, he hadn’t fulfilled the duties of a father.
He stood by the bed, staring at the little guy on the bed, lost in thought for a long ti.
Sophie stood behind him, not knowing what he was thinking.
"Asher Land, don’t just stand there, co sit in the living room for a while..."
Sophie noticed that his mood wasn’t great, seemingly because of the child in front of them.
He saw Sophie looking at him with a worried expression and realized his emotions were getting out of control. He snapped back to reality and walked into the living room.
He sat on the sofa, habitually beckoning Sophie to sit on his lap.
He encircled her slender waist, nestling his head into her warm, soft neck, with Alexander’s words once again flashing in his mind.
I don’t really want to know him anyway, I haven’t seen him since I was little, he hasn’t co looking for and mommy all these years, I hate him, hate him so much.
Anyway, I don’t feel anything towards the father now, I don’t even know what he looks like, I don’t know if he’d like when he sees , probably, he would hate too.
Asher Land seed helpless at the mont, Sophie rarely saw him like this.
"What’s wrong with you? Did Alexander upset you again today?" Sophie knew this father and son duo really didn’t get along at all right now, it was giving her a headache.
"No." He replied softly, with a slight hoarseness in his voice.
He quietly held her in his arms, seeming to find relaxation and comfort only that way.
After a long ti, he finally stood up.
"Sophie, I should be going ho."
"Aren’t you staying here tonight?" Her eyes were filled with longing, reluctant to let him go.
