"Mommy!" Alexander shouted without caring about Asher Land’s threat.
This child just loves to go against him.
Asher Land deliberately rubbed his fist, as if to intimidate.
Just as he approached, suddenly, the bedroom door opened.
Sophie Smith leaned against the doorfra, standing at the doorway, looking rather baffled at Asher Land.
"What... are you doing?"
There was a fleeting look of embarrassnt on Asher Land’s face, was he really going to hit the child?
"Nothing." He withdrew his hand and sat down on the couch.
"But I clearly heard Alexander saying... you were going to hit him?" Sophie frowned, her voice still a bit hoarse.
It was obvious her body hadn’t recovered yet, forcing herself to get out of bed.
"Do you believe everything a child says?"
Alexander shot an indignant glance at Asher Land.
This uncle is really shaless, obviously intending to hit him, but dare not admit it in front of mommy?
Sophie was speechless.
She knew that even if Asher Land really wanted to do sothing to Alexander, she couldn’t stop him.
With difficulty, she tried to move closer to the father and son on the couch, but her legs were rooted to the spot, unable to move.
Asher Land, as if telepathic with her, saw her intention and stood up to approach her.
He picked her up horizontally and walked back to the couch, setting her down on his lap.
His gaze swept over her, finally resting on her lovely but slightly swollen face.
"Does it hurt?" His concern was evident, but she just shook her head indifferently.
Though she couldn’t ignore the fact that Irene Morton had slapped her, she didn’t want to show it in front of him.
If she did, he would surely feel more guilty and remorseful.
His thumb gently brushed over her swollen cheek, the pain in his eyes spreading deeply.
Sophie felt uncomfortable under his gaze and turned her head away, avoiding his hand.
But his large hand pinched her chin, turning her head back to face him directly.
"Today’s events have a lot to do with , I’m sorry I couldn’t co to see you last night..." Asher Land’s words were full of remorse.
"I didn’t an to trouble you last night either." She hadn’t known Alexander would call Asher Land, if she had known, she would have stopped him.
"It seems like you’re not as sensible as Alexander," Asher Land said with a hint of helplessness in his eyes, "When you’re in pain or danger, even Alexander thinks of , why don’t you?"
There was an unfathomable mix of emotions in his tone.
"Sophie, I want you to think of first when you’re in danger, you know?"
Hearing this, her expression was montarily stunned, but she quickly regained her composure.
Of course, when she’s in danger, she indeed thinks of him first, but for various reasons, she can’t selfishly ask him to rush to her side imdiately.
She didn’t know what to make of it all; she just felt there were still so insurmountable barriers between them.
"Sophie, did you hear what I said?"
Seeing her unresponsive, he couldn’t help but ask again.
