"The Chief Doctor said they’ve found a suitable cornea donor; Sophie Smith can have the surgery."
"Really?"
Originally, Asher Land was expressionless, but now he couldn’t contain his excitent, "When?"
"It can be arranged for this afternoon."
He strode into the ward, only to find her sitting on the bed, hands clasped tightly over her chest, looking sowhat uneasy.
He closed the door and quietly approached her.
"Eva..."
Sophie Smith still heard so noise; Asher Land had already lightened his footsteps, but it seems when you can’t see, your hearing becos much better...
"Eva, I’m a bit scared."
Sophie Smith thought the person who entered was Eva Miller.
He sat down beside her bed and reached out to hold her tightly clenched hand.
Sophie frowned, naturally sensing these weren’t the small hands of that woman, Eva Miller.
She instinctively wanted to pull away but was held firmly by Asher Land.
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here."
The deep and magnetic voice startled Sophie.
"Asher Land, when did you get here?"
It had been two days since he last visited her; although she didn’t say it, she felt quite concerned.
She didn’t even know why she felt miffed, saying she didn’t want to see him, yet inside, she was constantly thinking of him...
Seeing her fall silent again, he thought she indeed feared the upcoming surgery.
"Sophie Smith, it’s just a surgery; what’s there to be afraid of? The best ophthalmologist in Eastern City will be operating, and he can swear to with his life that he will cure you."
His big hand gently smoothed a few strands of hair from her ear, his tone tender and careful, as if afraid that speaking too loudly would frighten her.
The natural aura from him made her feel at ease.
She felt her heartbeat wasn’t as rapid as before.
"What have you been doing these past two days?" She twisted her fingers and asked in a deliberately casual tone.
"Are you mad I didn’t visit these past two days?"
Actually, he hadn’t exactly stayed away; every ti he saw her, she seed in a foul mood, so he could only stand quietly at the ward door, watching her.
"If you want, I can stay with you in the hospital every day."
"Who wants to stay in the hospital every day?" she retorted, exasperatedly.
"..."
"Then, shall I stay at ho with you every day, my dear wife?" He spoke with a teasing smile in his eyes.
"Who’s your wife? I..."
"We already got our marriage certificate, so no backing out."
He gently brushed her nose with his finger, looking at her full of adoration.
Sophie felt overwheld talking to him.

The surgery was scheduled for the afternoon; in the morning, she needed to undergo a retinal exam with the doctor, and Asher Land stayed by her side all along.
Sophie Smith didn’t converse with him, but just knowing he was beside her made her feel more relaxed.
It’s just a surgery, right?
What is there to be afraid of?
Suddenly, she rembered Asher Land’s ’those four years.’
