Now reading: Chapter 7 Brake Marks1 from Novice Forensic Doctor, a Drama novel by Princess Xue'er.

Zhou Ning’s doubts did not stop the task from being posted on the screen, the green characters kept popping up.

Prompt:

Please note, by choosing to view the task rewards, it automatically ans you have accepted the task!

Temporary Task:

Find the accident vehicle and perpetrator responsible for injuring the deceased, the task must be completed within 48 hours, with a reward of level three forensic scene study. Failure to complete will result in dropping to level one initially.

Imdiately, other writings disappeared from the screen, leaving only a 48-hour countdown, and the sense of urgency erged instantly.

Zhou Ning: ...

He wanted to curse, this was simply unreasonable, dammit, if there were such rules, why didn’t you say so earlier?

Just a brake mark, what could this thing indicate?

Wait, brake marks...

A book on forensic scene investigation suddenly popped into Zhou Ning’s mind, automatically searching for content relevant to the car accident scene investigation, one important section was the brake marks.

With a ruler in hand, Zhou Ning asured the width of the single-sided brake mark more seriously this ti, as well as the distance between the two brake marks, and estimated the wheelbase at the figure-eight marks.

He obtained three values: tire width 235 mm, wheel track 1586 mm, and wheelbase 2841 mm.

Seeing these values, Zhou Ning looked up at Zhao Xinli.

"Do you know cars? If not, find soone who does."

Zhao Xinli was standing to one side, watching Zhou Ning write and draw, and this sudden question left him a bit stunned, but he quickly nodded.

"Do you look down on ! From F1 to the ho-use tricycle, I’ve studied them all. At twelve, I could disassemble the car my dad wanted to repair, and for any car released, available dostically, I basically know a bit. In our detective team, if I say second, no one dares to say first, what do you want?"

Upon hearing this, Zhou Ning quickly handed the clipboard to Zhao Xinli.

"I don’t know if you guys have studied these marks before, I asured them and got these three values, can you tell what car it is?"

"Let see, the traffic police ca earlier and determined these were sedan marks, they didn’t co up with anything more."

Zhao Xinli glanced at it, got interested, blinked, and quickly began to search on his phone. Watching, Zhou Ning felt a bit unsure, thinking that if he was just searching the internet, the accuracy was not guaranteed.

A mont later, Zhao Xinli held up his phone to Zhou Ning, displaying a picture with various data, seemingly published by an official source.

"These numbers most closely match the Volkswagen CC 2010 2.0TSI Deluxe Edition, see it matches your data exactly."

Zhou Ning nodded vigorously, the excitent on his face barely contained.

"Inform Xu Da, finding the model can narrow down the search range."

Zhao Xinli smiled broadly, eager to share the good news through a phone call, as Zhou Ning trusted him enough to leave this task to him, he quickly got up to make the call.

Zhou Ning stood up, walked north for over ten ters, and found another brake mark there, sowhat shallower, and although it didn’t form a figure-eight, it still had two opposing C-shapes.

After asuring the data, it was found to be entirely different from the previous one, with a tire width of 357 mm, wheel track of 1590 mm, and wheelbase of 2780 mm.

An idea suddenly occurred to Zhou Ning, if it’s two cars, could it be...

He shook his head, perhaps he was overthinking.

Returning to the spot with blood-stained brake marks, he knelt on one knee, using a small shovel to scrape so rubber from the road surface.

While searching the content on brake marks earlier, there was a test report following that.

The report stated that by extracting the rubber from the brake marks on the ground and comparing it with the wheel rubber of the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect vehicle could be identified.

Pondering, that report reappeared in Zhou Ning’s mind, this ti he didn’t skim through but read it carefully.

This paper explores the conditions for Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrotry analysis [1] and examines the rubber evidence in a traffic accident case using the established thod and SEM-EDX.

By comparing the materials and samples, differences in rubber compound and inorganic elents among different samples were identified, achieving a comparative analysis, and discovering that different tires have different tread and sidewall rubber compositions, and even within the sa tire, there are differences between tread and sidewall rubber compositions.

This provides guidance for the extraction of rubber evidence comparative samples, offering objective proof for case trials and litigation.

The more Zhou Ning read, the more he nodded, skimming through the English section under "Journal Na."

There was a "Year (Volu) Issue" 2016 (041) 005, leaving Zhou Ning speechless.

It was an article from six years later, then wasn’t the forensic scene study materials he had obtained also from future textbooks?

According to the system, what he had now was level two forensic scene study, aning level three would be more detailed and avant-garde knowledge.

This discovery accelerated Zhou Ning’s heartbeat with excitent.

A shoulder felt heavy, and Zhao Xinli’s big face ca closer.

"Doctor Zhou, what are you thinking about, I was talking to you and you didn’t hear?"

Zhou Ning exhaled, suppressing his excitent, packed the extracted rubber granules into an evidence bag, and stood up.

"What’s up, I didn’t hear what you said."

"The boss said he’ll be here shortly."

Zhou Ning responded with an "oh," thinking about the 48-hour deadline, he still felt a bit anxious.

Just then, a sharp braking sound ca from not far away, soone quickly got out of the car, ran through the cordon, and reached them, it was Xu Dayuan, whose smile was barely contained.

"Impressive, Doctor Zhou, you keep surprising today, have you confird the car model?"

Zhou Ning shook his head honestly.

"I’m not sure, but these three sets of data are correct, Zhao Xinli is very familiar with cars, he found a Volkswagen CC 2010 2.0TSI promo poster, compared it to the scene, it indeed matches."

Xu Dayuan nodded, glanced at the records in Zhou Ning’s hand.

"A professional is a professional, our people found the brake marks, but didn’t gather much information beyond it being a sedan, speeding, didn’t expect you could compare these, we’ll comnd you for this."

Saying that, Xu Dayuan dialed a call, asking about these numbers, getting accurate answers from the other side, which finally relieved him.

"Confird, it’s a Volkswagen CC 2010 new model, Doctor Zhou, have any other findings?"

Zhou Ning thought for a mont, walked to the edge of the blood marks.

"The deceased was stabbed here, and didn’t move afterward, then was hit and flew, based on the body flying 112 ters, plus calculating vehicle weight, the car, even after braking for 4.5 ters, was speeding over 100 miles per hour, so before braking, the speed must have been higher.

According to rectal temperature estimation, the ti of death was at 2:23 a.m., and the report Liu Forensic Doctor gave to write was between 2:00-3:00. In this ti fra with such high speed, the key is I found another set of parallel brake marks, I suspect if soone was involved in illegal racing?"

Zhao Xinli and Xu Dayuan both looked at Zhou Ning, and after he finished speaking, neither said anything, making Zhou Ning montarily anxious, was his assumption too outrageous?

Just then, Xu Dayuan kicked toward Zhao Xinli, face showing anger.

"You fool, I went to check the identity of the deceased, instructed you to find onsite marks, did you just see nothing!"

Zhou Ning was stunned, not daring to speak at all.

"Doctor Zhou, quickly take to see the brake marks you discovered."

Zhou Ning led them over, apologizing with his eyes toward Zhao Xinli, who seed not to understand what embarrassnt was, following with keen interest and still grinning.

"Leader, don’t rush, I just thought the marks here were sowhat similar, but compared to the blood-stained brake marks, these are much fainter, with a longer brake distance too."

Xu Dayuan waved his hand.

"Don’t make excuses for them, quickly check, what’s the data here? Can you identify the model?"

Zhao Xinli was already eager on the side, took one glance at the three numbers, and swiftly scrolled on his phone, browsing for quite a while without results, Xu Dayuan was already raising his leg.

Zhao Xinli dodged to the side, fingers seemingly enlarging a picture, and then gasped in surprise.

"No way, is soone in our county driving such an expensive car?"

......

PS:

[1] Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrotry:

In traffic accident cases, the rubbing and collisions between vehicle tires and other objects, and the sliding friction between brakes and the ground, will transfer rubber particles to the contact object or remain on the ground forming skid marks. Examining these rubber particles can provide evidence to reconstruct the truth and identify the accident vehicle.

Car tires mostly use natural rubber (NR), butadiene rubber (BR), and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) in single or compounded form, along with additives like vulcanizing agents, accelerators, antidegradants, fillers, and other organic or inorganic auxiliaries. Based on characteristic pyrolysis products, the rubber type can be accurately determined. Combined with the SEM-EDX thod, it can provide a comprehensive analysis of the organic components and inorganic elents in rubber, and has recently beco an important thod for rubber inspection and identification.
