Su Yanrong also looked confused.
Then irritated.
Then uneasy.
Because this was not the reaction she had co hoping to see.
Wei Ranshu, however, was too arrogant to stop now. The peacock beastman flicked his hair back and spoke in a lofty tone that made Lin Huahua want to throw him into the river.
"Why would you bully her?" he said. "If you keep behaving like this, I will not let you pursue ."
For one second, the whole place went still.
Even Shi Yan stared.
Then Lin Huahua looked at him with such genuine disbelief that it almost beca funny.
This man really thought the entire world circled around him.
Then she said, in the calst voice possible, "That works in my favor. Good. I do not want to pursue you anymore."
Wei Ranshu almost forgot how to breathe.
His ears were not hearing wrongly, were they?
He stared at her.
The village people nearby, who had slowly started paying attention to the confrontation, also stared at her.
Behind Lin Huahua, her males looked at her with emotions so strong that if they had weight, they would have crashed onto the ground. Yesterday, when she said similar things, they had still half believed it might be a passing mood. But now, now she was standing in front of everyone and saying it again with no hesitation in her voice.
Was she serious?
Was she really serious?
Hu Baiyu’s heart nearly burst from joy. Mu Qingyi’s chest grew warm. Feng Yiren, who was always the hardest to convince, still felt hope rise despite himself.
Wei Ranshu did not want to believe it.
So he laughed once and lifted his chin higher. "Like anyone would believe that. You are only saying this to get my attention."
Lin Huahua almost smiled from pure rage.
That was how shaless he was.
And while he kept talking, her males behind her were being cut too, because every foolish thing he said reminded them of how things used to be. She had said she did not care before and then still gone after him. She had said she would stop and then went behind their backs. So even while they wanted to trust her now, his words still stirred up old pain.
Wei Ranshu noticed none of that. Or maybe he did and simply did not care.
He kept going, full of himself as always. "You have chased for so long. One angry sentence does not an anything. If you want to throw a fit, then throw it. When you calm down, you will still co back."
Lin Huahua’s little white rat tail lashed sharply.
This peacock was insane.
What exactly did he think he was?
The answer, unfortunately, was very obvious.
He thought he was precious.
More than precious.
He thought he was irresistible.
And the worst part was that just a few breaths ago, he had really started feeling so attraction toward her. Her beauty, the new light around her, the way she stood there looking both cute and furious, all of it had begun working on his stupid peacock brain. So now another thought slowly grew in his mind.
Maybe... maybe it was not so bad if she pursued him again.
Maybe he could allow it.
That was how confident he was.
That was how stupid he was.
So after looking around at the people watching, at Su Yanrong beside him, and at the males behind Lin Huahua, he did sothing that nearly made Feng Yiren start seeing black spots from rage.
Wei Ranshu puffed out his chest proudly and said, "Fine. I will finally allow you to pursue again, since you are so angry."
The sheer absurdity of it made the entire world seem to wobble.
Lin Huahua stared at him.
In her mind she thought only one thing.
Who the fuck is this man?
Even Su Yanrong looked briefly confused.
And her males?
Their hearts nearly stopped.
Because for one split second, when Wei Ranshu said that and Lin Huahua’s face changed, they all thought the worst. They thought maybe the old madness had returned. They thought maybe she would soften. Maybe smile. Maybe do sothing horrible that would crush all of them at once.
Feng Yiren’s face had already gone hard, but he did not speak. He swallowed his words down. Yesterday and today she had already proven him wrong more than once. So this ti he forced himself to wait, though inside he was already praying to every beast ancestor that this would not go badly.
Hu Baiyu looked so stricken it was painful.
Mu Qingyi’s hands had curled quietly at his sides.
Then Lin Huahua smiled sweetly.
And that was the worst part.
The peacock saw that smile and instantly beca smug. He looked at her males as if saying, see? She can never get over . At the sa ti, because he had finally noticed how very beautiful she was now, excitent rose in him too. He wanted her. That feeling was now very clear.
Lin Huahua, still smiling, turned to Mu Qingyi’s basket.
Then she reached inside and took out one of the huge fish.
At first Wei Ranshu only looked confused. Fish? Was she giving him sothing? A gift? Was this her dramatic way of restarting her pursuit?
He glanced at the fish, then looked down at her again with his usual superior look.
Lin Huahua held the fish up and said in the sweetest voice possible, "Since you finally decided to let pursue you..."
Wei Ranshu almost preened right there.
Around them, everyone held their breath.
Then Lin Huahua looked up and said, "Bend down."
Wei Ranshu did not fully understand, but because he was already full of confidence and because he wanted to show the others he had won, he bent down anyway. He even looked at her males while doing it, his face carrying that disgusting smug expression that made people want to throw stones.
At that exact mont, Lin Huahua’s face changed.
Her smile vanished.
Her eyes turned cold with anger.
Then, before Wei Ranshu could react, she swung the huge fish with all the strength in her little body and slapped him straight across the face.
