Elian’s POV

*****

He sat on the ground beside his bed in silence, legs curled close to his chest. He didn’t speak. Didn’t breathe too loud. He just stared at nothing, barely noticing the sun setting outside.

His mind still ran through everything he saw. From the revelation of the false moon goddess to the mories retrieved by the system.

Elian Ashford.

A na he’s answered for years without questioning his origins. All his life, he has been the orphaned Oga. A "disappointnt" to his parents who were nowhere to be found.

But oh... How wrong the people in that palace have been.

"A–Arian." He whispered for the first ti in what felt like forever, fingers loosening on his legs. "Arian, found that night."

Now that the system showed him everything from that night. When the true owner of this body was five years old—Elian could rember his childhood clearly.

And he ant CRYSTAL clear.

"The Alpha King saw the massacre." As he spoke, flashes of blood, screams and guttural roars swam through his mind. "Or at least, the aftermath. He should’ve seen signs of sothing... Wrong. With the little boy he took into his palace."

He chuckled, barely having the capacity for sarcasm. "What’s with Stormborn royalty and taking in stray children as servants?"

Arian did it with him—although, now that he thought about it, the damn Alpha king might’ve known his true nature all this ti. It made sense since he actively worked with Amara and Garrick at one point.

And then Kyren did it six years ago with—

A knock on the door made him stiffen. His eyes widened, then narrowed on the door. "Who... Who is it?"

’System, what’s the matter?’ he couldn’t help but ask. ’You’ve... You’ve been silent. For way too long. Why didn’t you alert that soone was coming? Or drag with a sarcastic remark?’

Silence.

Elian’s heart dropped.

The system was still there. He could feel it. But for the first ti ever it wasn’t chatty or nagging or saying anything at all.

’Is it because of my outburst at the dinner table?’ Elian asked, ntal voice soft. ’Or... Or because of what we’ve discovered so far? Because of what I am.’

A beep rang within him. Like it was processing sothing to say.

"M–Master Elian?" However, a voice at the other end of the door cut the mont short. And not just any voice. "It’s... It’s . Sylas."

Talk about being psychic. He was just thinking about him.

’So are you going to give the silent treatnt now?’ his tone was basically pleading now. ’Make feel more... More isolated?’ as he asked that he got on his feet, raising his voice. "Room system. Unlock the door."

The room pulsed with a soft crimson glow before the sound of locks clicking snapped.

"You can co in."

Elian raised a brow, trying and failing to force a genuine smile. The door opened slowly, as if Sylas were afraid he’d blast him the second his face popped in.

Could he bla the lad?

When the door finally opened fully, Elian let out a small breath. Sylas stepped in hesitantly, closing the door behind him.

Each movent was as if he were trying not to "trigger" Elian.

As for Elian, his eyes skimd him from head to toes. Lucian’s little brother was still shirtless, the red light contouring his lean muscles.

Gods, he’ll never get used to the lack of clothing amongst Kyren’s staff.

"Are we going to stay staring?" He cleared his throat, brushing aside a strand of hair and looking away.

Sylas’ face turned crimson. "I... I’m sorry, master Elian. I—"

"And you don’t have to call ’master’." Elian struggled not to cringe, hugging himself. "You’re literally royalty now."

That earned a light chuckle from the prince. Which in turn made Elian’s lips curl.

"For only a few minutes." Sylas stepped away from the door, drawing closer to Elian. "It’s still so... Unfathomable. The long-lost prince of Lunaria—who was never even reported on. Or searched for."

His features beca gloomy, head lowered.

Elian’s shoulders slacked. "You don’t know that."

"But it’s true." Sylas raised his head again. "I asked Lucian a few questions before finding you here. He didn’t know about until our father died. Our mother didn’t confess until he confronted her point-blank about it. So... Why?" His voice broke. "Why didn’t they try searching for ? Why did they keep a secret?"

Elian blinked, not knowing what to say. He could barely regulate his own emotions right now. Adding another person to the fray would crumble him.

So he stretched his right hand, placing it on Sylas’ shoulder. The latter jolted slightly for a mont—but then softened when he and Elian locked eyes.

"I-I’m sorry," the lad whispered with a strained sound. "I’m trauma dumping on you even though you’re going through the worst."

When Elian heard that, he squinted. "How do you know whatever I’m going through is... Worst?"

Sothing sizzled in the air between them. Sothing that made Elian’s hair stand on end.

Or was he imagining things?

’System, for fuck’s sake.’ he groaned ntally. ’Give stats. Sothing. Any—’

[Sensors picking up pattern between this mont and the divine crystal explosion from earlier today.]

Hearing that sentient yet chanical voice chi in his mind was beyond relieving.

’So you haven’t abandoned ...’

"I just know, Elian," Sylas muttered, grabbing the hand he placed on his shoulder. "I see you. I might not be able to rember what happened in that excavation zone today... But I can feel we’re connected. By sothing."

The Divine Crystal...

[I can never abandon you, fruitcake.] The System echoed words that genuinely made his heart flutter.

[But in light of all we’ve discovered... You aren’t the only one questioning your existence.]

For the first ti ever, Elian truly felt like the System was more than an AI. It had to be.

[Anyway, enough of that. I’ve figured sothing out. When the explosion happened, it felt like the divine energy was "calling" to Sylas. Why?]

The system’s dramatic pause after that made Elian smirk.

It was slowly coming back to normal.

’Why o’ great one?’

[Don’t push it, feather toes. But anyway, the reason is YOU.]

Huh?

As the system explained, Elian’s eyes moved. From Sylas’ hand on his. To his red hair and blue eyes—which oddly seed to be gaining a tint of silver.

[Sylas was experinted on with energy from the divine crystal. Its essence, which your soul is made up of.]

Elian’s eyes lit up at that.

"So..." He spoke out loud this ti, breath hitching. Sylas frowned, staring with curiosity. "That ans..."

[You two are technically—]

"— Connected." He took a single step back, scanning the lad from his head to his toes. "By the Divine Crystal."
