Elian’s POV

*****

"Here should be a good spot," Aurora muttered, glancing over her shoulder at Elian when they got to their destination.

The palace’s western garden.

Elian stepped in slowly, taking in a deep breath. Birds chirped and sunlight filtered past leaves from high trees. The pond at the end was pristine as ever, twinkling as if stars got caught in it.

Seraphyne stood close to Aurora, guiding her toward the bench. But the princess shook her head, silver eyes fixed on Elian. "You said you wanted to talk. This is a good spot." Her tone was almost flat.

Almost.

Deep down it was tinged with sothing heavy. Guilt perhaps?

Clasping his hands together, Elian took a few steps closer. "Aurora, we can’t deny the tension between us since you got out of Amara’s clutches," he paused for a beat, noticing her expression shift. "Which I honestly get. You saw things that... Shook you. Found out about—"

"You being THE moon Blessed." Aurora blurted too quickly. "The result of a twisted experint done centuries ago... And apparently your mates know about this but I wasn’t worthy enough."

Elian’s eyes flicked to Seraphyne just then. His lips pressed into a line, hesitation clear in his posture. "I... Would’ve liked if this conversation was just between us—"

"Too late," Aurora shrugged. "I needed soone to confide in about my visions and ended up telling her. She used to work with the Dark Hand after all."

[Sigh... I guess the sapphics have been roped into the grand secrets too. Who’s next? The straights?]

Gods forbid he tells Elowen...

Sighing defeatedly, Elian continued. "Oh, well. Also, I only told Kyren and Lucian because I had no choice. Trust beca a serious issue and the guilt was eating up."

The Princess’s eyes twitched like she was about to snap. And at this point, Elian was prepared to let her.

But—she eventually breathed out heavily, placing a hand on her forehead. "Elian... It kind of hurts. Really. Plus, it would’ve been nice getting a heads up before Amara yeeted across millions of possible tilines at once."

Her voice was sarcastic but dread clouded it. Her eyes stayed unfocused, darting around the garden anxiously. Seraphyne noticed and gripped her palm even tighter.

After a few seconds or more, Aurora lowered her head. "I... I saw you. I saw everything. From the beginning of Evaros to the possible end of all things on this continent," her voice trembled. "And you were at the centre of it all, Elian."

"I..." Aurora struggled, eyes glinting with fear. "I saw the Lunarian palace crumble. I saw Lucian sitting on a throne surrounded by the ghosts of those he loves. I saw the Dark Lands transform in ways I’ve never imagined..."

Her fists clenched beside her body, gaze never leaving Elian’s face. "I saw you. Floating above everything. Eyes alight with silver fire as you destroyed the continent like it was nothing. Exuded such raw power and energy that was nothing like magic."

Tilting her head, her eyes squinted. "You were almost—"

"Divine?" Elian believed it was ti he ca clean completely. She’s seen glimpses of what he is. So he might as well show the full picture before she pieces them herself. "I have a lot to share with you. But I’ll start with things you’ll be able to comprehend first."

Aurora blinked, brows furrowing into a deep frown. She turned to Seraphyne who only tapped her back gently, keeping her presence to emotional support.

Seeing their calm, Elian sucked in a breath, closing his eyes for a couple of seconds.

Here goes.

"I was killed in my past life by Estella," he began but then Seraphyne frowned.

"Who?"

The Princess quickly explained. "She’s this psychotic girl who’s been obsessed with Lucian. The sister of the original owner of Beta Axel’s body... It’s a lot to explain but just know she’s currently under the custody of the Council of fangs."

Tch... She thought all that was a lot? He’s barely even started.

Clearing his throat, Elian went on to explain how he was reborn. How the "moon goddess" gave him a system which so far has been helping him to evolve beyond an Oga.

At this point, Aurora and Seraphyne’s jaws were slackened with shock.

"Wait..." Seraphyne raised a hand, chuckling dryly. "How then does this explain you being the result of a centuries-old experint? Did the goddess like... Pull you through tilines? Also—you’ve t the moon goddess?!"

[Oh, sweet sumr child...]

He hesitated for a mont, but soon went into the truly mind-boggling details. How he found out his soul was actually a fragnt of the moon goddess’s essence. And of course, of how the goddess herself has been dead for thousands of years.

Then he explained how Amara plans to use him to ultimately control the Divine crystal, which is the goddess’s remains.

When he was done explaining all that craziness—

—Silence.

No one spoke for minutes, Aurora and Seraphyne either gawking at Elian, exchanging glances with themselves or staring into nothing.

[Welp. I guess you can check out randomly giving other people existential dread off your bucket list.]

After what felt like aeons, Aurora heaved as if the air was scarce. "I’ll... I’ll need to sit for a second," she reached for the wooden white bench, dropping lazily on it.

Seraphyne did the sa, looking toward the pond while Elian stood awkwardly behind them.

Maybe he said too much...

"All the prayers..." Aurora mumbled, placing her right hand on her chin. "All the devotion. The people telling my silver hair ant I was blessed by the goddess... All of it ant absolutely nothing."

She laughed. A dry, despondent sound.

[Now you see why I’ve never been in support of you sharing your secrets?]

"For fuck’s sake!" Seraphyne yelled, getting on her feet. She swung her right hand hard, sending a grenade at the pond.

BOOM!

An explosion of white light spread before Elian could react, water spraying into the air like mist. His heart jumped into his throat. Aurora didn’t even flinch, rubbing her forehead.

"So our lives aren’t even governed by any Divine forces," Seraphyne turned around, flinging her arms into the air. "Just one maniacal bitch who’s been playing us like fucking fiddles!"

The princess got up just then, wiping off so water that got on her face. Clicking her tongue, she brought her eyes back to Elian. "Amara said the number of possible futures where we win is fewer than we think..."

All Elian could do in response was nod.

He never expected this kind of reaction.

"... But that ans there are futures where we win." Aurora’s voice beca icy, the wind suddenly picking up pace. "Where you win, Elian. I don’t fucking care if we’re dealing with the gods of destruction themselves. My visions must not co to pass."

Those words settled harder than any pill.

With a solemn nod, Elian glanced above at the towering Lunarian castle hundreds of ters away.

If Garrick truly planned to destroy them with those wards... They’ll be waiting. And ready.
