Now reading: Chapter 7: My husband wants to humiliate me from Once the Forgotten Wife, Now His Biggest Regret, a Romance novel by Rachienyc.

I recognized that voice imdiately.

My heart was drumming against my chest as I whipped my head around to look into Lucas’ arrogant brown eyes. He carelessly held the picture between his fingers as he casually leaned against the door fra. Beside him, Cathy wore the sa smug expression.

"Give it back."

I lunged towards him the next second, but he only pulled back as a smirk spread across his face.

"Nuh-uh. No can do. That’s what you get for embarrassing . You don’t get to divorce , I am the one who should be leaving you."

"I don’t care! Just go ahead and tell everyone that you chose to leave ." I moved again to reach for the picture, only to stumble on my own feet.

A mock laughter left their lips.

"Look, Evelyn. If you try to grab this picture again, I will not hesitate to rip it up. I think you know I don’t bluff about things like this." I narrowed my eyes, glaring at him while amusent swirled in his eyes. "I know how much this picture ans to you. So, why don’t you be a good girl and do as I say? Hm?"

I wanted nothing more in that mont than to slap the smug look off his face for good. But with the picture in his hand, I didn’t dare risk it. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I kept my eyes on him.

"What do you want?" I asked through gritted teeth.

The smile on his face grew wider. "Jessica isn’t feeling well. Why don’t you make yourself useful and make her so hot chicken soup and prepare the dicine she needs, then maybe I will consider giving you back the picture you treasure so much."

I knew he was just doing all this as an excuse to humiliate . Today, I had no choice but to play along. But what he didn’t know was that I knew his dirty little secret—I knew he betrayed with my sister. And one day, I will make sure he regrets everything he ever did to .

I forced my lips into a smile. "Sure. I will go get that done right away."

My lack of reluctance and argunt must have surprised them as they remained silent, only exchanging looks with one another.

I pushed past them and made my way to the kitchen to prepare everything under their watchful eyes. At least they were smart enough to keep watch in case I might have poisoned their beloved Jessica. Though I was offended that they would think that I was so dumb to poison her right here and now.

I was fuming on the inside the entire ti, but I didn’t let it show.

"It’s done," I announced.

"Good."

With the bowl of hot soup in one hand and the dicine in another, I carefully made my way up the stairs.

A faint cough ca from the master bedroom—Lucas’ room. What could I say? I wasn’t surprised to find that he had already taken the liberty of moving my sister’s belongings into his room.

I didn’t make any comnt about them sharing a room. Instead, I continued to keep my expression neutral as I approached my sister.

"Evelyn prepared so chicken soup and dicine for you," Lucas said as he entered after , strutting in with that all-knowing look on his face, his mother beside him.

Jessica was already sitting up, feigning to be weak as she forced out another cough. Her eyes grew wide as she looked at . "Oh, sister, you’re ho. I’m so happy you and Lucas finally made up. Are you not leaving him anymore?" She asked, and I tried hard not to scoff at her obvious act of innocence.

Only Lucas and Cathy would be foolish enough to fall for her acts.

I ignored her question and went to set the bowl of soup onto the bedside table when Lucas’ voice reached my ears.

"Who said you are done here?"

I turned to et his eyes, keeping my voice steady. "I am done here."

"Are you sure about that?" He threatened, fiddling with the picture between his fingers.

I inhaled deeply. "What else do you want from ?"

"Jessica’s hands were injured from the altercation earlier today. I think you know what to do."

I bit the inside of my cheek, turning back to face my sister as I reached for the bowl of piping hot soup. The smug look on her face disappeared as quickly as it appeared.

"Oh, no. You don’t have to. Lucas, I can do this myself. Let’s not make things more difficult for her already." Her hand reached for mine as I held the bowl. "Sister, please. Why don’t you stay for the sake of your family, for the sake of Kayla?"

"I don’t need you to tell what to do with my life—"

The words had just barely left my mouth when I felt the bowl topple out of my hands, and a yelp pierced through the air.

The burning sensation spread over my hands, dripping down my arm.

"Ah!"
