Grand Line – Paradise
Alabasta – Sealed Chamber with Poneglyph
"You seem to have understood this tale more deeply than I did! Care to share?", turning to Luffy, Robin asks, his reaction having caught her attention.
"Well...", intending not to tell what he knew, Luffy begins to speak, but when he lifts his head and sees everyone looking at him for an explanation, he curses, "Fuck it!"
"You don't need to tell if you don't want to, Luffy", seeing that Luffy seed uncomfortable, Vivi says, trying to reassure him.
"Alright, listen! What I'm about to tell you now must not be shared lightly out there!", even though he knew this wasn't the right mont to share what he knew, Luffy decides to speak; keeping secrets is a torturous task, and sharing this now wouldn't make much difference.
"Alright, you're scaring ! I'd better not even listen, so it doesn't cause problems in the future!", Usopp says fearfully, having the feeling that whatever was about to co out of Luffy's mouth next would be sothing dangerous to know.
"Let's start from the beginning! There was a kingdom in the Void Century that was powerful and advanced. There was so kind of conflict at that ti, and this kingdom was destroyed. At the end of this conflict, what we now know as the World Governnt erged, ford by twenty kingdoms! My theory is that this Ancient Kingdom waged a war against a coalition of twenty other kingdoms and ca out the loser of this conflict. Now, how did this conflict start, and why did it start? That I have no idea, only vague guesses!", not giving Usopp ti to cover his ears or do anything else, Luffy begins to speak.
"Well, congratulations, now you all know enough to join the number one enemies club of the World Governnt, we're all going to die!", raising an eyebrow, Robin cracks a little joke. Now, everyone was in the sa boat that she once occupied alone. The cracks in her facade grow a little larger.
"Stop being so morbid, woman! Nobody here is going to die!", Zoro says, irritated.
"Ehh... continuing! It's not sothing confird, but, probably knowing that they were going to lose and that if they did nothing, they would be erased from history, they recorded their version of history on indestructible stone cubes and then scattered them across the world, so that their voices and wills could be passed on! These are the Poneglyphs", deciding to just ignore the dialogue that had just happened, Luffy continues, theorizing about the creation of the Poneglyphs.
"And with that, you all have been promoted to the rank of 'Devil's Child'! You now have the right to a Buster Call ticket, valid only if presented at a Marine base!", clapping her hands, Robin makes another at least morbid little joke, this ti making fun of her own past.
"Puff... I'm not going to laugh at that; friends don't laugh at things like that! Ahem... well, during the Void Century, there was a figure called Joy Boy, a figure of extre importance to the Void Century, the World Governnt considers his na taboo, so it's assud he opposed the coalition of twenty kingdoms and that he probably had connections with the Ancient Kingdom, this figure ate a Akuma no Mi called the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika, a mythical Zoan that granted him the powers of the Sun God, Nika, powers that involved his body behaving like rubber and the ability to fight so freely that his creativity beca the only thing limiting him", being the only one who fully understood Robin's joke, Luffy spends so ti trying not to laugh before continuing to talk about the Void Century and its mysteries, ntioning Joy Boy and his Akuma no Mi, which makes almost everyone widen their eyes in his direction.
"Luffy, don't tell that you...", realizing where this was going, Ace begins to speak, only to be interrupted halfway.
"At the ti, Shanks said I had eaten the Gomu Gomu no Mi, but the truth is that I ate the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika!", Luffy continues, revealing that the suspicion everyone had just had turned out to be true.
"So that's why that Sea King called you Joy Boy?", Usopp asks, rembering when they accidentally entered the Calm Belt before reaching Reverse Mountain.
"No, she called that because apparently Joy Boy could also hear the 'Voice of All Things'!", Luffy responds, correcting his friend's misunderstanding.
"Wait, so this Poneglyph gives us a lot of clues about the past! It talks about a prosperous kingdom with an expiration date, clearly referring to the Ancient Kingdom. Now, why say it has an expiration date? It can't be as simple as pointing out that the kingdom ended up destroyed! Anyway, setting that aside, the tale focuses on two individuals, two princes, you ntioned before that Nika is also known as the Warrior of Liberation, with that and everything else you said in mind, it's possible to assu with quite a bit of certainty that this Joy Boy was the adopted prince who beca heir!", going back to speaking seriously, Robin begins to unravel the text of the Poneglyph before her.
"And the heir without the right to the throne? He seems important! Any idea who he might be?", Nami asks. The tale ntions the two princes as if they were of the sa level of importance.
"Yes, I think he is Imu!", Luffy says, deducing this mainly from the context of everything. This tale places the two at the sa level of importance, one being the antithesis of the other, so it's natural to think that this other prince is Imu.
"Who's that guy?", Sanji asks, confused.
"Okay, in Mary Geoise, there is a throne that should be empty. After the conflict, the twenty kings and queens built this throne symbolically and, representing their families and kingdoms, swore, driving their swords in front of it, to never sit on this throne. That's how the World Governnt erged! But there's a catch: at this very mont, in front of the throne, there are only nineteen swords stuck in the ground, and Imu, well, this guy sits on the throne, basically, he is the hidden ruler of the world!", Luffy explains, and more and more, everyone present understood that they were directly involved in the middle of sothing that would determine the fate of the entire world, and even so, no one there was thinking of backing down, and that was sothing Robin noticed. More cracks appear in her façade.
"So the current ruler of the world killed his own brother? Why would he do that? Why go against his own holand kingdom?", Vivi asks indignantly. To her, it was inconceivable for soone to be like that, so unscrupulous and detached.
"The Poneglyph vaguely ntions that power corrupted him and that he was exiled, a little before that, it ntions that there was an attempted coup d'état, so it's possible to assu that he was responsible for that and that he was no longer the sa person as before! But that coup ended up failing, and he was judged for it, probably by his own father and before the nobles of the kingdom who had lost loved ones in the midst of it all! So, following that line of thought, his father, the king, was certainly lenient with his punishnt, and that's why he was exiled", Robin begins to think out loud, putting together a picture of the information ntioned before and then deducing a sequence of events.
"And how power corrupted him! In exile, he was probably the head behind the entire conflict between the twenty kingdoms and this Ancient Kingdom!", Nami continues her reasoning.
"I wouldn't say he caused the entire conflict; the Poneglyph says there was already tension between the kingdoms! He probably just knew how to take advantage of it to escalate things!", pointing at Nami, Robin says with a slight smile, correcting the navigator before she continues her reasoning.
"Calm down, guys! There's no way to know if this prince from the Poneglyph is Imu! But if they really are the sa person, then it's going to be really weird when I et him in the future!", upon realizing that, although plausible, they were letting their imagination run wild, Luffy butts into the conversation, asking them to calm down.
"Why would you et him in the future?", raising an eyebrow, Zoro asks, confused.
"Well, I'm after the One Piece; he doesn't want the One Piece to be found, we're definitely going to get into conflict!", Luffy answers easily, shrugging.
"Okay, but why would it be strange?", Sanji asks next. What Luffy said didn't explain why this eting would be strange.
"Well, I've already talked about my adventure from three years ago with Reiju, right?", Luffy asks to make sure, after all, this explanation needed context.
"Yes, but what does that have to do with it?", Nami asks curiously. Whenever Luffy spoke about this adventure with Reiju, he left out the important parts of the story.
"It's because on this adventure we found a ruined temple, solved a puzzle using a children's tale of Nika, and found an Akuma no Mi! But there's more; after Reiju had to leave and I was alone, I ended up noticing a strange phenonon happening around the temple. So, wanting to know if that place was hiding more than we had discovered, I ended up finding a secret chamber! Inside, I found a Poneglyph, and that's how I had a conversation with Joy Boy himself," Luffy explains, leaving everyone shocked by what he said at the end.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on, man! Are you telling you talked to a guy who died eight hundred years ago? Like a real conversation?", Ace interrupts Luffy. How could sothing like that even be possible?
"Yes, I think his Observation was so absurd that he managed to see eight hundred years into the future!", Luffy answers, theorizing about how he thought Joy Boy was able to have a conversation with him.
"Man, that's an insane level of power! And you're telling this guy lost to the one sitting at the top of the world?", Ace continues, reality knocking at his door once again. He needed to get stronger if he wanted to be relevant and useful in the future.
"Yes!", Luffy says, not wanting to think about it. That's a problem for the future.
"How are we supposed to face this guy in the future then?", Usopp asks, horrified.
"I have no idea, that's why we have to get stronger!", Luffy replies without worrying too much. All of this was purely deduction; they had no idea what really happened in the events of the past. The only thing that was certain in the middle of all this was that they had to get stronger.
"And what was said in this conversation with Joy Boy?", Robin asks, bringing the conversation back on track.
"Not much, that old man refused to give any relevant information, he just said that Haki is more important than any Akuma no Mi power and also told his na, Monkey D. Binks, and that's why it would be strange to et Imu in the future if he really is Joy Boy's brother", Luffy says, summarizing the conversation he had with Joy Boy.
"The hidden ruler of the world is your relative?", Vivi asks, shocked by the revelation.
"I don't know, if he ends up being the other prince ntioned in this Poneglyph, then yes, he's my relative! Now, I have no idea from which part of the Monkey's family lineage my family specifically cos from!", Luffy answers, shrugging.
"Wait, we're forgetting an important point in all this! Your family is part of royalty, Luffy!", Usopp comnts, if all this turned out to be true, then Luffy was supposed to be a prince.
"So Luffy is a prince?", Chopper asks excitedly, his little eyes sparkling.
"Woof? Woof? Woof woof woof woof!" "Luffy? A prince? Now that would be sothing funny to see!", Chouchou comnts with an amused huff, imagining Luffy in princely situations and then laughing to himself at the scene he pictured.
"That's not a big deal, I'm almost sure all the families with 'D.' in their nas were the noble families that made up the Ancient Kingdom", Luffy says with his face twisted, not liking being called a prince.
"Well, fuck it! In the end, knowing this doesn't change who we are", Ace says, his face as twisted as Luffy's.
"Shishishishishishi! That's right, Ace! Fuck it if our family was part of the nobility of a powerful kingdom in the past! That doesn't change anything, we are who we are, we're pirates and we've been cursed to be free!", laughing loudly, Luffy says proudly, fuck nobility, he's a pirate.
"His family surely cos from the lineage of this Joy Boy!", Robin comnts with a slight smile on her face, Joy Boy rejected a throne because he felt trapped by it, and then fled to the sea in search of freedom, sounds a lot like the way of acting and speaking of a certain soone right in front of her, right?
"I don't doubt it!", Nami comnts with an amused huff.
"How do you know all this, Luffy?", Chopper suddenly asks, this doubt popping into his mind.
"And this is where the conversation ends. I don't think it's good to talk about this right now! You're already strong, but to know this, you need to be stronger! I'm sorry, guys!", Luffy says with a guilty look on his face, sothing everyone notices.
"Hey, relax, Luf! We'll get strong enough so you never have to carry everything alone again! After all, we're a family!", getting closer, Nami consoles him with a smile.
"This is a lot to process. This tale says that this prince went after power, but only got the kind that corrupts. If a guy like that is in control of the world, well, that's scary!", changing the subject, Vivi suddenly comnts, feeling a chill just imagining it.
"Wait, I just realized! You talked about eting this guy in the future, but how? Wasn't he supposed to be dead already?", frowning, Usopp suddenly asks, referring to Imu.
"No, he's very much alive! But I have no idea how, actually, I theorize it's because of the Akuma no Mi he ate", Luffy says with certainty, and despite Usopp wanting to keep asking, he realizes he would end up getting into the secret that Luffy still couldn't share.
"…Sigh… alright, what about Nojiko, Kaya, and Sabo? Are they going to be left out of the loop?", letting out a sigh, Usopp changes the subject to the crew mbers who weren't with them.
"Sabo already knows! But we can tell the girls when all the Alabasta ss is over!", Luffy answers, scratching his neck.
=Scene Break=
With that conversation finished, everyone starts walking around the chamber, exploring the environnt. In the end, in front of the Poneglyph, only Robin and Luffy remain.
"Looks like our enemy is the sa!", finishing taking notes and translating the text of the Poneglyph in a pocket notebook, Robin comnts with a slight smile, much more emotionally open to Luffy and the rest of the crew.
"Not only that, we have much more in common! I'm after the One Piece and you're after the true history, the Rio Poneglyph!", turning his gaze to Robin, Luffy comnts with a smile.
"What do you an?", Robin asks, confused. What did those two things have to do with each other, and after all, how did he know what her dream was?
"The Rio Poneglyph is in the sa place as the One Piece!", Luffy answers with a smile, dropping a bomb in Robin's lap, who freezes as soon as she hears it.
"Hey, Luffy! There's an Akuma no Mi here behind the stone cube!", Usopp's voice suddenly echoes through the chamber, drawing Luffy's attention.
"I'm going!", leaving a paralyzed Robin behind, Luffy goes to where Usopp was to see what was happening.
"What? Wait a minute, you can't just say that and walk away like nothing happened", coming back to her senses, Robin says before following Luffy, her heart beating faster with excitent. More cracks appear in her façade, pieces begin to fall, and holes form.
[Quick explanation: we all agree that Luffy isn't good at keeping secrets, right? Well, even though this Luffy can control himself more, he's still terrible at keeping secrets. He knows that revealing this information to his companions now wouldn't be ideal, but in the situation he found himself in and with everyone looking at him and waiting for an explanation, well, he acted purely and simply on impulse! And technically, it's not that dangerous for them to know this now; none of them is going to go out there spreading this kind of information to the winds! As for the mories from another world, he's going to keep to himself for a while longer.
This is the narrative explanation. Now, why did I, the author, decide to do this? When I started writing the second paragraph of this chapter, I realized that if Luffy kept the secret once again, I would have lost a very good opportunity to make Robin open up more to the crew, to realize that everyone there was in the sa boat as her, were fine with it and didn't intend to jump ship, it's true that their situation is a bit different from hers since the World Governnt doesn't know they know these things, but still, it would have the sa effect. And I need her to open up more to the crew because this will be important in Water 7 and Enies Lobby. Well, kind of a confusing explanation, but that's it, it wouldn't make much difference for them to know this now, and Robin opening up more emotionally was too good an advantage to ignore.]
