Sengoku sat within the ruins of Marine Headquarters, his upper body wrapped in thick bandages. In his hands were the latest intelligence reports. At first, anger surged through him, but it slowly faded, leaving behind only exhaustion and a deep sense of loss.
"Sigh... Garp, I plan to resign as Fleet Admiral and retire, just like you."
Garp sat nearby, still eating donuts. His hand paused briefly before he responded.
"If you want to resign, then do it. You're already past seventy. Even if you stayed, how long could you keep up with the burden? But have you thought about your successor? Aokiji, Akainu, or Kizaru?"
When it ca to choosing a successor, Sengoku would have hesitated in the past. Now, however, the situation had changed. Akainu's transformation left her consud with the desire to find Emporio Ivankov and settle things.
"Aokiji, I suppose..."
"Aokiji? Kizaru might not object, but Sakazuki definitely will. There will be conflict between them. And by the way, is it still right to call her Sakazuki?"
"Sakazuki is still Sakazuki. If you try to change her na, she might actually fight you over it. Her personality hasn't changed."
"Fair enough. I'll keep quiet."
Garp leaned back and looked at the sky, letting out a quiet sigh. Back then, Sengoku had faced no competition for the position of Fleet Admiral. Now, things were different.
Aokiji and Akainu stood on equal footing. Although Sengoku favored Aokiji, Akainu held greater prestige within the Marines. If the two clashed, the outco could be disastrous. Losing an Admiral after such a war was the last thing the Marines needed.
As the war ended, its consequences began to spread across the world, stirring unrest everywhere. Even though Whitebeard had not declared the existence of the One Piece before his death, Roger's reappearance had a far greater impact.
Not long after Whitebeard fell, opportunistic pirates began invading his forr territories, eager to carve out their own share.
In the waters near Wano Country in the New World, a massive Azure Dragon exhaled a torrent of flas, reducing a pirate ship to nothing. Nearly a hundred people were incinerated, leaving no trace behind.
As the dragon turned to leave, a swordsman suddenly appeared before it, slashing toward its eye.
"Kaido... prepare to die!"
A sharp crack rang out.
The silver slash shattered on impact. The blade failed to pierce Kaido's scales, instead chipping under the pressure.
"How is this possible..."
The swordsman's eyes widened in disbelief, but Kaido gave him no ti to react. With a single swipe of his claw, he crushed the man instantly.
"What a fool. I wasn't even interested in you, yet you ca here to die."
Kaido returned to his human form and stepped back onto his ship. Waiting for him was King the Wildfire, his right-hand man.
"There was no need for you to handle such an opponent yourself."
"It doesn't matter. Think of it as passing the ti before a al. Do you know how excited I am that that man has returned?"
"Pirate King Roger?"
"That's right. Back when I was young, he pinned down without effort. I couldn't even move. That humiliation still burns. This ti, I'll settle it. Nothing excites more than defeating the Pirate King."
Kaido sat down heavily, the chair beneath him creaking under his weight. His presence filled the space like a coiled beast ready to strike.
Thinking about facing Roger again, a grin spread across his face, revealing sharp fangs.
King listened quietly. Unlike Kaido, he had no direct history with Roger. He only knew of the man through reputation, a legend who had conquered the seas and then disappeared.
Still, since it was Kaido's goal, he would support it without hesitation.
"Roger is currently aligned with the Whitebeard Pirates, and Silvers Rayleigh is with him. If we want to face him, drawing him to Wano would be the best option."
Kaido let out a laugh.
"Not a bad idea. Whitebeard's crew may be weakened, but they're still troubleso. If Roger interferes, it will be annoying."
His eyes glead as a thought ford.
"If news reaches him that Kozuki Oden died by my hand, do you think he'll co for revenge? As for Rayleigh, he was strong in his pri, but now he's just an old man. You should be more than capable of handling him."
Kaido took another drink, then suddenly rembered sothing.
"Now that Whitebeard is dead, send n to seize a few islands at the edge of his territory. Don't go too deep. Let Linlin test the waters first. Roger seems to have promised to protect those lands."
"Understood."
At the sa ti, within Totto Land, the territory of the Big Mom Pirates, Charlotte Linlin sat inside her grand castle made entirely of sweets.
Surprisingly, she had not fallen into one of her hunger frenzies. Instead, she remained in high spirits after watching the recent broadcast.
"Ma-ma-ma-ma! Whitebeard finally died at the hands of the Marines. When I proposed an alliance through marriage, he refused. Now he's paid the price for his arrogance."
Her grin widened as she continued.
"What I didn't expect was that Portgas D. Ace is Roger's son. And even more surprising, Roger himself is alive and has regained his youth. If I could obtain that secret... how wonderful that would be."
