"They're too weak," Alex explained. "If you or Kuina fought them, it would be over in seconds. Nami and Kaya are the ones who need the fighting practice right now. These bounty hunters will make perfect training dummies."
"But… what if we can't defeat them?" Kaya asked nervously.
"Don't worry," Alex assured her. "I'll keep my Observation Haki active the whole ti. I'll be watching every move. The second any of you are in real danger, I'll step in. So go ahead and defeat them. This will be your first battle in Grand Line"
