The term "Dragon Slayer Mage" originated from the manga Fairy Tail. In the lore, Dragon Slayers were created by Irene Belserion. They are a specific breed of mages who utilize Ancient Magic—Dragon Slayer Magic—which converts the user's physical constitution into that of a dragon, allowing them to hunt dragons.
When Loya had first transmigrated, he was a huge fan of Naruto, but he had also followed Fairy Tail during its peak popularity. For a ti, the "Big Three" of manga didn't hold as much appeal to him as Fairy Tail did.
Dragon Slayers possess a dragon's physiology and can restore their stamina and boost their power by consuming substances matching the elent of their magic. By tapping into "Dragon Force," they can manifest dragon scales to drastically increase their offensive and defensive capabilities. Because this magic was designed to slay dragons, it is called Dragon Slayer Magic.
When Loya first discovered the manga, he treated it like a holy text, captivated by the wild, imaginative, and flashy magic. He would run to the corner store every week to buy the latest issue with his ager allowance, sotis even stealing the money his mother gave him for groceries.
However, even the greatest enthusiasm fades over ti. Eventually, due to the pacing issues of the original story and the increasing pressures of school and adulthood, he lost the motivation to keep up.
But that wasn't the important part.
"Ice Dragon Slayer Mage! Was that even an option in the original series? Even God Serena didn't have that, did he?" Loya stared wide-eyed, struggling to recall the plot.
In the original Fairy Tail canon, an Ice Dragon Slayer never appeared. They weren't among the first, second, or third generations, and there wasn't even a side ntion of one. Perhaps the plot hole involving God Serena—who possessed eight dragon lacrima—could have accounted for it, but the odds were slim.
After all, going by the tropes of Japanese manga, a power as iconic as "Ice"—often associated with the protagonist—would have been revealed early on, not left hidden for over a decade.
This is my lifeline—my Golden Finger. Please, let it not be so weird, useless magic... and I definitely don't want sothing purely support-based like Wendy's.
With a flicker of anxiety, Loya began to study the interface.
It was divided into two sections: the left displayed his attribute stats, while the right featured a skill tree composed of icons, similar to the talent trees in World of Warcraft. Curious, Loya tapped the colorful icon at the very bottom of the tree. A text box popped up:
Dragon Force: 1/100%. Dragon Force enhances the intensity of a Dragon Slayer's magic. Exceeding 0% begins the bodily transformation, and exceeding 90% triggers full draconic conversion.
The first attribute wasn't exactly good news, and Loya felt a chill run down his spine. As the description stated, while Dragon Slayer magic is powerful, it carries a severe side effect: according to Irene Belserion, every Dragon Slayer gradually transforms into a dragon the more they use their power.
Loya was no longer the chuunibyou-afflicted teenager he once was. Unless this effect could be reversed, or a master on the level of Jellal existed in this world, he had no desire to find out what it felt like to turn into a dragon.
The remaining colorful icons extended upward from Dragon Force. Loya tapped them one by one:
Dragon Body: 10/100%. The body gradually adapts to Dragon Force, improving overall physical stats. Adaptability can be briefly increased by consuming energy, though the side effects are significant.
Ice Dragon's Roar: Gathers ice dragon power in the lungs and releases it through a magic circle. (Cannot be used: insufficient magic power).
Ice Dragon's Iron Fist: Coats the fist in ice dragon power, unleashing a powerful freezing effect on impact.
Ice Dragon's Wing Attack: Coats the arms in ice dragon power, moving them like dragon wings for wide-range attacks. (Cannot be used: insufficient magic power).
Ice Dragon's Talon: Coats the feet in ice dragon power, unleashing a powerful freezing effect on impact.
Ice Dragon's Crushing Fang: Coats the hands in ice dragon power, using fingers in a claw-like formation to attack.
Ice Dragon's Grip: Grabs the target and injects ice dragon power directly into them.
The good news was that Loya's fears were mostly unfounded. While his signature "Roar" was locked due to a lack of magic power, it didn't really matter for now.
Based on the available skills, Ice Dragon Slayer magic was very similar to Natsu's Fire Dragon Slayer magic—purely offensive. Whether it would stay that way in the future, Loya didn't know.
Beyond the standard "Dragon's [Attack]" skills, the Dragon Body skill caught his eye. It improved all-around physical stats, which was likely why his strength and endurance had skyrocketed. Like Natsu manifesting scales after consuming Ethernano in the Tower of Heaven, this skill could boost his abilities in a pinch, with the only downside being the agonizing side effects that even a simpleton like Natsu found unbearable.
"Perfect for a desperate last stand," Loya noted pragmatically.
The other icons remained grayed out, unresponsive to his touch. As a longti gar, Loya knew what that ant: his level was too low. He guessed these were likely secret arts or advanced control skills that would unlock as he leveled up.
He turned to the left side of the interface to examine his stats:
Na: Christopher Loya (Automatically corrected by the world)
Energy Stage: Tier 1, Level 0
Energy Value: 10/10 (Upgradeable)
Magic Power: 500/500
Magic Recovery Rate: 50/min
"What the hell is 'Christopher Loya'? And 'automatically corrected by the world'? I'm not changing my na—I'm just Loya! ...And what is this 'Energy Value'?" Loya grumbled to himself.
Could it be... He glanced at the pile of coconut shells and had an idea. He looked up and shouted into the air, "System? Fairy? Mainfra? I'm your host, your daddy—show yourself!"
A few seconds passed, and Loya let out an awkward cough. The surroundings remained deathly silent. As the ocean breeze blew, he felt as if he could hear the faint sound of mocking laughter: "Fool... fool... fool..."
Once the embarrassnt passed, Loya tapped the arrow next to the word "Upgradeable."
Years of web novel and gaming experience told him not to hesitate when a level-up was available. Who knew if a powerful enemy might show up to take his life in the next mont? Upgrading was his best chance of survival.
Hum!
The interface blurred, and a magnificent blue magic circle manifested beneath his feet. The surging pressure blew his hair upward. Simultaneously, blue wisps of energy materialized from the air and flooded into his body. As the energy poured in, blue lines began to spread across his skin.
Although he hadn't tried this before, the scene felt oddly familiar.
"Am I Super Saiyan... what? And why does this feel like a cheap browser ga upgrade screen?"
The anomaly ca as quickly as it went, lasting less than three seconds. The blue lines crawling over him seed to have a life of their own, swirling around his body before finally converging on his wrists, forming two diamond-shaped patterns.
As everything settled, Loya touched the patterns on his wrists and checked his status again:
Na: Christopher Loya (Automatically corrected by the world)
Energy Stage: Tier 1, Level 1
Energy Value: 0/0
Magic Power: 550/550
Magic Recovery Rate: 50/min
His magic power had increased by 50, but the energy required for the next stage had doubled. He checked the talent tree, but neither Dragon Body nor Dragon Force had changed.
Does leveling up not affect my actual Dragon Slayer magic? Or is it just because my level is still too low?
Loya frowned. If it was the forr, he'd better hope this was indeed the world of Fairy Tail, where he could find a ntor. If it wasn't, he might be stuck with this level of magic forever.
But these concerns were premature. He didn't even know what world he was in, let alone explored the island beneath him. Worrying about such long-term problems was useless.
Grumble~
A thunderous noise erupted from his gut. Loya looked down and rubbed his stomach. "No way? I just ate, and I'm hungry again... Is the energy for leveling up really just biological energy?"
Grumble~
His stomach roared again, confirming his suspicion. Fine. It looked like he had to go hunting.
This ti, he wasn't going to touch another coconut. He'd eaten over a dozen already; he was bloated, sick of them, and the sight of them made him want to vomit.
Besides, a Dragon Slayer living on coconuts? That would be an insult to all Dragon Slayers!
He decided it was ti to hunt—he needed at!
