Stepping out of the Teleportation Array, Pei Yan felt incredibly relieved. Perhaps it was because of the incident that night; his nerves, once tornted, had beco less sensitive. Upon entering the Teleportation Array again today, he surprisingly felt no pain at all. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise, Pei Yan comforted himself this way.
Exiting the Teleportation Array chamber together, this place was mostly the sa as the many scattered Teleportation Array rooms across the area. It was located within an unassuming old-style building. The group arrived at a spacious and secluded spot, where upon Ye Jiumu’s indication for everyone to stand guard, he pressed his hands to the ground. A faint glow shone between his palms, and liquids of various colors flowed from his arms towards the ground.
Before long, a giant photo spread out beneath the feet of the five people. After Shangxing commanded everyone to step aside, an enlarged off-road vehicle appeared out of thin air in front of Pei Yan.
Unlike the amazed Pei Yan, Ye Jiumu unhesitatingly sat in the driver’s seat. When Pei Yan regained his senses, he intended to offer the passenger seat to Shangxing but ended up being plopped into the passenger seat like a little chick.
It wasn’t until Shangxing sat down that Pei Yan looked towards the backseat and understood what was going on. It wasn’t that Shangxing wanted to sit in the back with the ladies, but he was simply too tall. Even though the SUV was spacious enough, it was still like sitting in a baby car for him; he couldn’t stretch out his limbs. Watching him sit there stifled, Pei Yan almost felt sorry for him.
"Did you conjure this car?" Seeing Shangxing out of breath, Pei Yan quickly turned his head to talk to Ye Jiumu, who was starting the vehicle.
Ye Jiumu patted the steering wheel proudly and said, "Yes, I can manifest objects I have recorded with my powers on the spot, although they have a lifespan depending on their size. For sothing like this car, it can run for a day without issue."
"That’s an amazing ability! Think about the money you can save. Just take a stroll through the electronics store, then keep using new appliances at ho!" Pei Yan said enviously as he buckled his seatbelt.
The car slowly drove out of the parking lot, and Ye Jiumu said with a serious face, "I can’t fathom what you’ve got in your head all day! Am I the type to take advantage of others?"
"And who was it that captured all those ga console models and keeps switching them out at ho? Are you really that short on cash?" His act of seriousness was quickly exposed by Xia Yu, who was seated in the back.
"It’s not like you don’t co over to play. If it weren’t for you breaking my consoles every ti you get excited, would I need to do this?"
"Alright, alright, can I try and see if I can control the car with my ability?" Seeing the two were about to start bickering again, Pei Yan quickly intervened and asked.
Ye Jiumu was initially stunned to hear this, then he parked the car by the roadside, spread his hands pointing at the steering wheel, "Now that you ntion it, I’m quite intrigued; go ahead, give it a try!"
Everyone in the car turned their curious eyes towards Pei Yan. Under everyone’s gaze, Pei Yan raised his right hand, attempting to control the car.
When nothing happened for a mont, he frowned and placed his hand directly on the steering wheel. To his disappointnt, his ability, usually effective with electronic gadgets, failed him for the first ti.
"How could this be?" Pei Yan muttered in confusion. He then turned his gaze to another parked car on the roadside, snapped his fingers at it, and the car started up on its own, headlights flashing, and the horn blaring.
"There’s nothing wrong!" Pei Yan mumbled after returning the car to normal.
Seeing Pei Yan’s failed attempt, Shangxing leaned back and said, "This is a manifestation of Jiumu’s ability, so he has the priority control over the object. This is a normal phenonon among ability users. Enough playing around; let’s get going."
"Alright!"
Under Ye Jiumu’s driving, the car restarted and drove into the city. As Pei Yan gazed at the beautiful scenery of Jiangnan Town, veiled in the light drizzle outside the window, he opened the window, letting the fine raindrops hit his face. Breathing in the slightly fresh and moist air, and looking at the rain-washed clean streets, it gave Pei Yan a sense of the city being washed of its glitz and glamour.
"Spring rain drizzles as travelers grow forlorn," but Pei Yan wasn’t at all forlorn. Instead, he mused about stumbling upon a herdboy to ask if there’s a tavern nearby where he could savor a hot pot with warm wine.
"The air in Jiangnan is indeed better than in the capital," Pei Yan marveled earnestly.
"Indeed," Zhao Yuanhu, lounging in the backseat, lazily responded while watching the scenery pass by the window.
The car had been driving for about half an hour. After traveling through half the town towards the suburbs, it slowed down and gradually pulled over. Once the car stopped, Shangxing, impatient, was the first to hop out.
Pei Yan got out imdiately and was about to close the door when he noted Zhao Yuanhu, who had stepped out from the sa side, raising her hand towards the sky. At that mont, Pei Yan couldn’t tell if she knew beforehand they’d co to such a place and purposefully dressed like that.
Nevertheless, he had to admit, a woman, looking like she had walked out from a painting of ancient beauty, standing in such an old-world Jiangnan town amidst misty rain, asking Wentian with an elegant hand, was a mont that captivated him. Countless classic martial arts scenes flashed through his mind.
Just then, a pair of large hands obscured Pei Yan’s field of vision, snapping him out of his fantasy. "srized, huh! Take your ti, we’ve got all the ti in the world. Close the door!" Ye Jiumu’s mischievous voice whispered in Pei Yan’s ear. He then called out to Xia Yu, who had also alighted, "We’ve arrived, quickly activate the disguise marks while no one’s around."
Rolling his eyes, Pei Yan exhaled helplessly and slamd the car door shut. He completed the appearance switch under Ye Jiumu’s urging. After all was done, he quietly followed behind the group, trying hard to shift his gaze to the scenery flanking the path, rather than looking at Zhao Yuanhu, who was gradually striking up conversations and banter with Xia Yu, even though she had altered her appearance.
Originally walking shoulder to shoulder with Xia Yu and others, Ye Jiumu paused his steps when he saw this scene, smiling slightly and deliberately slowed down. He sidled up to Pei Yan, wrapped an arm around his shoulders, and whispered by his ear, "Spring is here. It’s that ti for the animals to...."
Before he could finish, Pei Yan elbowed him sharply in the side, causing him to wince in pain and shut his mouth.
Just then, Shangxing, who was furthest ahead, stopped in front of a large, expansive pond just outside the town, and gestured back to the team.
The previously playful Ye Jiumu imdiately let go of Pei Yan’s neck. After surveying his surroundings with a serious Xia Yu, he took out a Compass and mapping device alike items from his spatial ring.
Seeing this, Pei Yan also tensed up. After the ambush during the spring festival, this would be his first formal deploynt to face an inter-plane invasion mission.
Will there be a battle today? What kind of people could they encounter? Standing by the pond, Pei Yan remained vigilant, his mind racing with possibilities.
