However, she didn’t just turn and walk away. She rembered what Judith Pierce had said, so Walker Grant must be here to talk about the divorce.
She walked up to him, her clear eyes watching him coldly. "You didn’t have to co all the way here. We can just go straight to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow."
Walker Grant’s narrow, deep-set eyes fixed on her. "Chloe, there’s no way we’re getting a divorce."
Chloe Reed’s expression darkened. "Walker Grant, let’s get sothing straight. You’re the one who’s wronged from start to finish. What gives you the right to cling to this marriage and refuse a divorce?"
Walker Grant said calmly, "Since you say I’ve wronged you, I’ll make it up to you. That’s all the more reason we can’t get a divorce."
Chloe Reed: "..."
’So fucking shaless!’
She turned to Kyle Coleman, who was standing nearby cradling a thermos. "Director, if this man shows up again, don’t let him in."
Kyle Coleman blew on the goji berries floating in his mug. "Can’t be done," he said. "He’s the investor."
Chloe Reed: "..."
Walker Grant, who had been watching her the whole ti, said, "What you’re worried about won’t happen."
But Chloe was in no mood to waste her breath on him.
She turned and went back into the recording booth.
However, seeing him had completely unsettled her, and she was in no state to continue recording.
In the end, she called it a day for recording and started studying the script, trying to imrse herself in it.
Walker Grant didn’t linger and left shortly after.
Chloe Reed picked up her phone and called Judith Pierce.
The phone rang three tis before it connected.
"Chloe." Judith Pierce’s tone was cool. "Our deal can’t just end like this. You gave your word, so you have to keep it, don’t you?"
But Chloe said, "Do you have any idea what Walker Grant just did? He helped my parents give shares of the Reed Group to Sunny Reed."
Judith Pierce’s expression soured even more. She’d never imagined he would do sothing like that.
All at once, she lost the moral high ground.
Chloe pressed on, "Mom, Walker and I have reached a breaking point. If we stay in this marriage, we’ll just be torturing each other. In the end, it’ll be his ruin or my demise. You don’t want to see it co to that, do you?"
Judith Pierce’s head was throbbing. She sighed. "Chloe, you know what Walker’s temper is like. He won’t agree to this easily."
The last ti, he only agreed because Chloe had been willing to risk everything to force his hand.
But now, that matter was resolved.
For the mont, there was no other way to compel him.
Besides, just because it worked once, did that an it would work a second ti?
Would he really let them manipulate him?
Chloe knew that, but she had to be firm. "Mom, you and Dad need to figure sothing out. I don’t want to have to take this to the extre, either."
With that, she hung up.
She stared at the script, but not a single word registered. She pulled out her phone, intending to make plans with Iris Yates, but a post from Sunny Reed on her social feed caught her eye.
It was a simple photo: a man’s hand, with long, elegant fingers, looking particularly handso. The logo on the steering wheel was one she recognized.
Hah...
’So, the mont I left, he personally drove Sunny Reed to work?’
’He really can’t get Sunny Reed off his mind, can he?’
’If that’s the case, why won’t he agree to a divorce?!’
’Does he actually think he can have it both ways, like in the old days?’
’How disgusting!’
Chloe Reed took a screenshot of the post, sent it directly to Walker Grant, and then imdiately blocked him again.
’He always claims it’s not what it looks like.’
’Even if he doesn’t, she clearly does!’
’Now that he’s seen this, can he still pretend to be blind?’
The phone vibrated.
Walker Grant pulled it out. Seeing it was a ssage from Chloe Reed, he quickly opened it.
