A flicker of wariness crossed Chloe Reed’s eyes.
’Did he co all this way just to corner ?’
’Does he want to snatch the earrings back for Sunny Reed?’
Her expression tensed as she walked toward the exit, one step at a ti.
She wanted to just ignore him.
But the hallway was narrow, and he was so tall and long-legged that she wouldn’t be able to get past him if he so much as stretched out a leg.
Her clear eyes fixed on him mockingly. "What do you want? Done eating with your second wife?"
Walker Grant’s strong brows knitted together, and the expression on his handso, sharp-featured face cooled. "Why say things like that? It only hurts you to say them."
"Isn’t it the truth?" The sarcasm in Chloe Reed’s voice grew heavier. "What are you doing here?"
Walker Grant’s dark eyes were fixed on her as he pulled a small box from his trouser pocket and offered it to her.
Chloe Reed glanced at it but didn’t take it. She just stared at him coldly. "What is this?"
Walker Grant grabbed her hand, pressed the box into it, and said, "Chloe, I just want to settle my debt with her. She saved ."
"I was the one who saved you!"
But Chloe Reed threw the box down. The mockery vanished from her face, her expression growing even more strained.
Walker Grant’s frown deepened. "I’ve investigated it thoroughly, Chloe. You did save soone back then, but it wasn’t ."
"You’re full of shit!"
Chloe Reed refused to accept what he was saying as fact.
She rembered it with perfect clarity. The person she had saved was him!
And now, he was treating Sunny Reed as his savior.
He was trying his best to grant Sunny Reed’s every wish.
’How ridiculous!’
She took a deep breath to calm herself down and said, "Walker Grant, when it cos to things I want, I’d rather tear them to shreds and throw them away than ever let Sunny Reed have them. And don’t you even think about snatching them from to give to her."
With that, she walked right past him.
Walker Grant reached out to grab her, but his gaze fell to the small box on the floor.
The box had fallen open, revealing a stunning ruby necklace inside.
Her personality was so bold and vibrant. She loved to wear beautiful dresses, and a ruby necklace like this would look stunning on her.
The mont he saw it at the auction, he knew it was perfect for her.
But now, she hadn’t even given it a second glance.
It was just as she’d said: if she no longer liked sothing, she’d throw it away.
That went for things.
And it went for people, too.
But he couldn’t accept that.
’If you love sothing, how can you just stop loving it? How can you throw it away so easily?’
He bent down, picked up the box, and put it back in his pocket.
’It’s fine. I’ll give it to her later.’
...
Iris Yates could tell at a glance that sothing was wrong with Chloe Reed and imdiately asked, "What’s the matter?"
Chloe Reed frowned. "He said he’s repaying his debt to Sunny Reed. It’s ridiculous."
Iris Yates let out a frustrated sigh. "That’s disgusting. How did he turn into this? Does everyone who gets mixed up with Sunny Reed get poisoned or sothing?"
Her parents were like that.
And now, her once-loving husband was, too.
Chloe Reed massaged her temples. "Maybe Sunny Reed and I are just cosmically incompatible."
Either she would be the death of Sunny Reed.
Or Sunny Reed would be the death of her.
Iris Yates said, "Don’t worry. I’ve already got soone looking into it. We’ll have answers soon. Co on, let’s eat first. Forget all about those awful people and things!"
"Okay."
The night grew deeper.
When Chloe Reed got back to her apartnt complex, she saw Charles Reed at the entrance.
He couldn’t get in, so he was standing there waiting. He did not look pleased.
