Chloe Reed didn’t insist. The item didn’t have to be delivered right away.
She nodded. "Alright. I’ll request ti off once this project is wrapped up."
Kyle Coleman’s expression softened a little.
He then turned to the supervisor and asked, "What about Sunny Reed? She hasn’t co in yet?"
The supervisor looked helpless as well, sighing as he said, "She called in sick this morning. Said she wasn’t feeling well."
Kyle Coleman’s brow furrowed again. "Such a pain."
Chloe Reed arched an eyebrow. ’Is she trying to provoke her boss on purpose?’
’Does she think she can be this brazen just because she has Walker Grant backing her up?’
’If she’s not going to take her job seriously, why bother having one in the first place?’
She returned to her desk.
But just then, her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was a call from Charles Reed.
She answered, "Hello?"
Charles Reed spoke up. "I asked your mother. She said there was no such thing. Chloe Reed, you’ll really stop at nothing to get what you want, won’t you? Bring the sapphires over right now, or the share transfer contract is imdiately terminated!"
Her brow furrowed at his words.
’How is that possible?!’
"My grandma told herself. How could it be fake? Maybe Mom misrembered?" Chloe Reed simply couldn’t believe it.
But Charles Reed just snorted. "Your mother, lie? Co on. Enough of this nonsense. Either you bring the sapphires over, or you give up the shares. Make your choice."
With that, he hung up the phone.
Chloe Reed gripped her phone tightly, her lips pursed.
She stood up, went out onto the balcony, and dialed her grandmother’s number.
After three rings, the call connected. An elderly voice answered, "Who is this?"
"Grandma, it’s ." Chloe Reed’s voice softened.
"Oh, it’s Chloe." The old woman’s tone grew cheerful; she was clearly happy to get a call from her granddaughter.
"Grandma, there’s sothing I need to ask you." Chloe Reed took a deep breath. "Do you rember the sapphire earrings?"
"Of course, I rember. How could I not? Your grandpa gave them to , but then I lost them." A note of sadness crept into her grandmother’s voice.
Chloe Reed asked, "Did you not tell my mom about this?"
"I did," her grandmother said. "I even asked her to keep an eye out and let know if she heard anything."
Chloe Reed’s hand suddenly tightened on the phone!
’Autumn Linton was lying!’
’Why would she lie?!’
"Chloe, have you seen the earrings? Where are they?" Her grandmother’s voice grew urgent.
Chloe Reed confird it. "I’ve already found them. As soon as I’m done with things here, I’ll bring them over to you."
"Oh, wonderful, wonderful! You’re so capable, Chloe." Her grandmother was overjoyed.
She chatted with her grandmother for a little while longer before hanging up.
Her expression was grim.
’The only explanation she could co up with was that they were so biased toward Sunny Reed that they simply didn’t care about their own mother’s feelings or wishes.’
’Had Autumn Linton never seen Grandma poring over that photograph?’
Chloe Reed found the whole thing absurd.
’Did Sunny Reed save their lives or sothing?’
’Why else would they treat her so well?!’
She was genuinely curious about it.
「That evening.」
She returned to the Reed family ho.
Autumn Linton was pruning flowers. Seeing Chloe return, her eyes flickered before she spoke. "Chloe, you’re back. Have you had dinner?"
Chloe Reed looked straight at her. "Why did you lie?"
