Upon hearing this, Chloe Reed’s expression faltered.
’So that’s what Autumn Linton ant last night?’
’So, she turned it down, only to let Sunny Reed have the opportunity?’
’That won’t do.’
Chloe Reed’s expression grew serious. Looking at Iris Yates, she said, "You’re right. I have to go."
The Reed Group would be hers one day. Even if she didn’t know how to run a business, she could hire a professional CEO. That was why she absolutely could not let Sunny Reed be the one to make an appearance at the banquet.
Iris Yates nodded. "Mhm, you have to. You should leave early this afternoon to get your hair and makeup done and find a new outfit."
"Okay."
Chloe Reed nodded and imdiately went to ask Kyle Coleman for ti off.
Kyle Coleman agreed to let her leave two hours early, but he gave her a complicated look. "Sunny Reed just asked for ti off, too," he said. "You two better not get into any trouble behind my back. If you damage your throats, I’m holding you financially responsible."
Chloe Reed nodded. "Don’t worry, I’m not going to start a catfight."
Kyle Coleman: "..."
She left with Iris Yates. First, they picked out gowns, then they got styled.
She chose a long, wine-red gown. With her long hair in soft waves and her makeup exquisitely done, she had a bright and commanding presence, like a red rose in full, passionate bloom.
The Vance family’s evening banquet was held at the Blue Night Club.
Night fell. The ballroom was dazzlingly lit, and the elegant notes of a piano flowed gently through the air.
When Chloe Reed and Iris Yates walked in, they imdiately drew a great deal of attention.
However, the gazes that landed on Chloe Reed were mostly filled with scrutiny and confusion.
So people even began to whisper among themselves.
"I just saw Mr. Grant. He was standing with his sister-in-law. Did they co together?"
"Tsk, so what’s the deal with Mrs. Grant? She ca alone? Could those rumors be true?"
"Shh, keep your voice down. If my husband were fooling around with his sister-in-law, I’d have divorced him long ago. Who knows what this Mrs. Grant is thinking."
"What else could it be? The fa and fortune, of course. After the Reed family beca in-laws with the Grant family, their value doubled. Who would let go of a deal that good?"
"..."
Iris Yates’s expression turned sour. "These people have such foul mouths. Instead of calling out the scumbag and the bitch, they co after you. Are their brains filled with crap?"
Chloe Reed’s expression was placid, finding her friend’s fuming indignation rather cute. "You’re right, their brains are filled with crap. So let’s not pay them any mind. We don’t want to get any of their stink on us."
Iris Yates nodded. "Right!"
As the banquet was held to welco the Vance family’s eldest son, they had their youngest daughter greeting guests.
Ivy Vance walked over. A waiter holding a tray approached, and she picked up a glass of champagne, handing it to Chloe Reed with a smile. "Mrs. Grant, welco. I was just wondering, why didn’t you arrive with Mr. Grant?"
As she spoke, a trace of contempt surfaced in her eyes.
Chloe Reed didn’t take the champagne from her. Instead, she took a glass for herself, lightly clinked it against Ivy Vance’s, and said, "So curious about my family affairs? How about I save a spot for you under my bed?"
Ivy Vance’s expression stiffened, and her gaze turned cold. "It was just a joke, Mrs. Grant. Don’t take it so seriously."
But Chloe Reed looked at her in mock surprise. "I was just joking with you, too. You don’t seem very happy, though. Is it because you think it’s too cramped under the bed? Well, you could stand beside it. You’d get a clearer view that way."
Ivy Vance: "..."
She tightened her grip on her wine glass, barely restraining the urge to splash its contents in Chloe Reed’s face.
Ivy Vance snorted coldly. "What’s there to be smug about when you’re not even the leading lady in his bed anymore?"
