Before she was ten, her daughter had been close and very clingy.
But later, her daughter grew more and more distant.
As her daughter grew older, she assud it was just the start of her rebellious teenage years and didn’t think much of it.
But as Autumn Linton grew up, the distance between them only widened. When she even married and moved to another city, her mother finally understood.
Her daughter simply didn’t want to be close to her.
In all the years since her marriage, her daughter had barely called, and she’d visited ho even less.
So this ti, when Autumn Linton took the initiative to call, the old woman was overjoyed. It made her reminisce about her daughter’s childhood.
But upon stepping inside and sensing the subtle but palpable distance from Autumn Linton, her initial warmth faded.

Therefore, the old woman had no desire to stay any longer, nor did she want to watch her daughter put on a show of being a dutiful daughter.
"Mom, how can you say that?" Autumn Linton’s brow furrowed. "Everything I said is true."
The smile on the old woman’s lips faltered slightly. "Fine," she said. "I’ll stay for lunch."
Autumn Linton found her mother’s reaction strange but still breathed a sigh of relief. All that mattered was that she stayed.
She asked, "Mom, what do you like to eat? I’ll have the kitchen prepare it."
The mont the words left her mouth, she saw Chloe Reed giving her a strange look.
Autumn Linton realized it at once. It was certainly strange for a daughter not to know her own mother’s favorite foods, and stranger still to have to ask.
Just then, the old woman said, "Anything is fine. I’m not a picky eater."
Autumn Linton let out a small sigh of relief, and the strange feeling in her heart subsided a little.
Watching this unfold, Chloe Reed found the situation increasingly odd.

「At lunchti」 Charles Reed returned ho. He was much more enthusiastic, keeping up a conversation with the old woman about all the changes over the years.
The atmosphere grew considerably more harmonious.
Autumn Linton seed to relax a little as well. She even said to the old woman, "Mom, why don’t you stay for a few days? You ca all this way, what’s the rush to go back?"
The old woman glanced at her. "No, thank you. I’m not used to it here."
She kept repeating this phrase.
Charles Reed then said, "Mom, you should do whatever makes you most comfortable."
"Mm."
Partway through the al, the old woman excused herself to use the restroom.
A mont later, Autumn Linton also got up and followed.
Chloe Reed stepped out to take a call. When she returned and didn’t see them, she quickly asked a maid. Upon learning they had gone to the restroom, she hurried over as well.
The guest bathroom was large, with white double doors that were currently ajar.
Autumn Linton’s voice drifted out from inside. "Mom, at your age, you have no use for those earrings. Why not just give them to ? I really like them."
Chloe Reed’s eyes widened in disbelief!
’She’s still after those earrings!’
’This is outrageous!’
Chloe Reed pushed the door open and walked in, her eyes cold as she stared at Autumn Linton. "Don’t you think this is a little inappropriate?"
Startled by the sudden intrusion, Autumn Linton was visibly flustered for a second before her expression darkened. "Chloe, how could you eavesdrop on ? That’s so rude!"
But Chloe Reed just sneered. "If I hadn’t co over, I would never have known you’d do sothing like this. I went to so much trouble to find those earrings for Grandma. What right do you have to just demand them?"
"What did I do?" Autumn Linton’s expression was ugly. "I’m asking my own mother for sothing. Is there a problem with that?"
