"It’s done, and it was a success," Chloe Reed answered, her voice filled with undisguised joy. "Miles Hawthorne, how on earth did you do it? You really did a huge favor this ti!"
Miles Hawthorne chuckled. "As long as the old lady is fine, that’s all that matters. It wasn’t a big deal, so don’t worry about it. Aren’t we friends? Friends are supposed to help each other out."
Chloe Reed was incredibly grateful. "Can I get another eight or ten friends just like you?"
Miles Hawthorne: "...What for? Are you wholesaling them now?"
Chloe Reed laughed. "Thank you, seriously. I’ll definitely repay you for this!"
She sounded exceptionally earnest.
But Miles Hawthorne said nonchalantly, "It’s really no big deal. But if you really feel that bad about it, then how about doubling my agency fee? No problem, right?"
"No problem!"
Chloe Reed agreed in a heartbeat.
With a weight off her mind, and no longer needing to be threatened by Walker Grant, Chloe Reed’s spirits soared.
After hanging up, she sat by the hospital bed, an unstoppable smile gracing her lips.
Outside the hospital room.
Walker Grant leaned against the wall, listening to the conversation inside.
’Miles Hawthorne?’
’Miles Hawthorne helped her?’
’He has that much pull? How co I didn’t know about it?’
Walker Grant’s gaze darkened. ’Looks like there’s sothing going on here that I don’t know about.’
His phone vibrated a few tis. He answered the call and strode to the side.
Dylan Finch’s voice ca through. "Mr. Grant, I had soone hack into Doctor William’s phone and computer. We found an overseas email from this morning, but it’s already been deleted, and the sender’s address was wiped clean."
Walker Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. "So you’re saying you found nothing?"
Dylan Finch fell silent for a mont before saying, "...Yes."
"Interesting."
Walker Grant’s eyes were pitch-black, as if shrouded in a dangerous light. "Put a few people on William. And... look into who Miles Hawthorne has been in contact with recently."
"Yes, sir."
...
Walker Grant hung up and went straight back into the hospital room.
The mont she saw him, the smile on Chloe Reed’s face vanished instantly. Knowing he wouldn’t drop the lawsuit, she didn’t bother to hide her feelings anymore.
"What are you doing back here?"
Walker Grant said, "We aren’t divorced yet, are we? That makes your grandmother my grandmother. I ca to see her."
"Don’t you feel disgusted just saying that?" Chloe Reed sneered. "Have you forgotten you were just using this to threaten ?"
"I was out of options," Walker Grant admitted with complete frankness. "Chloe, I don’t want a divorce. I didn’t know what else I could do to keep you, so I used whatever I could."
Chloe Reed: "...You really are brazenly shaless."
Her voice was cold. After speaking, she didn’t look at him again.
Walker Grant pulled over a chair and sat beside her. He wasn’t angered by her cold treatnt; his gaze simply fell on her from ti to ti.
His presence was too strong to ignore. Chloe Reed frowned and said, "Can you get lost? You’re here, disturbing my grandmother and ."
But Walker Grant said, "Grandma is resting just fine."
Chloe Reed: "..."
Just then, his phone started to vibrate. She imdiately shot him a look that was half a smile, half a sneer.
’Sothing’s co up. Isn’t he going to leave now?’
Walker Grant glanced down at his phone. Seeing it was a call from Judith Pierce, he furrowed his brow and answered, "Hello, what is it?"
"Little Uncle."
But the voice on the other end was Noah’s childish one.
