"Why did you do it?"

Walker Grant watched her, his long, narrow, jet-black eyes cold.

Judith Pierce said, "Because I don’t want you with Chloe Reed anymore. There’s too much danger around her. If you stay by her side, you’ll only get dragged down with her. Walker Grant’s voice was raspy. "Isn’t this what you want? At least I’m not sending you to live with Grandmother."

Even sitting in the chair, Judith Pierce swayed. Her face grew paler, but she finally managed a bitter smile.

"Chloe Reed said you agreed to it. But it’s clear now that she’s still very important to you."

She stood up. "Fine, just forget it... I won’t interfere in your affairs anymore. Walker Grant, I have no other demand of you. Just stay alive."

"I will,"

Walker Grant said flatly.

"Good."

Judith Pierce didn’t object to his arrangent. She turned and slowly left the room.

Silence descended upon the room. Threads of pain radiated from his left arm, and Walker Grant’s dark eyes grew vacant.
