Daniel Hayes’s expression changed, and he imdiately gave chase.

As he ran off, the other bodyguards who had been hiding in the shadows erged to protect Chloe Reed.
Chloe Reed’s hands trembled slightly. A strong sense of unease grew within her.
It felt as if soone was watching her from the shadows, waiting for the right mont to strike.
Fortunately, her phone was still in her hand, so she imdiately called the police. Her bank cards and cash had been inside her purse.
She explained the situation to the police, and just as she hung up, Walker Grant’s na flashed on the screen.
She took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a mont, and answered the call. "Hello?"
"You’re late."
The man’s emotionless voice ca through the phone.
Chloe said, "My purse was snatched. All my docunts were inside, so now I have to go get them reissued."
After a pause, she asked directly, "Did you do this?"
Hearing her words, the man on the other end of the line scoffed.
"Chloe, I don’t think I’m the one who keeps running into problems, am I?" He still used her intimate nickna, but his tone was laced with mockery.
Chloe’s fingers curled into a fist. "But if it wasn’t you, who else would’ve known I was going out today? Who else would’ve had soone lying in wait near the Civil Affairs Bureau?"
’He was the only one who knew she was going to file for divorce today!’
’That’s why he was the only person she could suspect.’
But Walker Grant said, "I’ve already agreed to the divorce. There’s no need for to resort to these kinds of tricks. Besides, what would I gain? To make you stay? Do you still love ?"
But before she could answer, he continued, "What’s the point of holding on to soone who doesn’t love ?"
Chloe fell silent.
A gentle breeze swept by, leaving her thoughts in a tangled ss.
She said, "I’ll co back once my docunts are reissued."
With that, she hung up the phone.
She left imdiately to get her docunts reissued.
The stolen docunts were most likely gone for good, and a wave of irritation washed over her.
As she got back in the car, with a different bodyguard driving, Chloe thought about the day. The almanac had said it was inauspicious for all matters.
’Looks like I shouldn’t have even left the house today.’
’I should have just waited quietly for the court date.’
After a series of trips between the governnt service center and the bank to get her docunts reissued, a call ca in from Daniel Hayes.
"I’m sorry, Miss Reed. I couldn’t catch him."
Chloe said in a flat tone, "I figured as much. I’m already in the process of getting new docunts. It should take three days at most."
Daniel Hayes replied, "Alright."
"You can get back to your work. I’m heading ho," Chloe said.
"Alright."
When she returned ho, the old lady saw her dejected expression and asked, "It didn’t work out again?"
With a bitter look on her face, Chloe said, "My purse was snatched."
"It seems fate really wants you two together," the old lady said jokingly. "How about you just don’t get divorced? Just stay with him?"
"No."
But Chloe shook her head firmly. "As long as I’m still married to him, I’ll always feel shackled and tied down."
Any connection to him inevitably brought back mories of the past—a past she couldn’t move on from.
Besides, he had deceived her ti and ti again.
Chloe was truly exhausted.
The old lady stroked her hair and said, "Then just take it slow. Maybe the ti isn’t right yet. When it is, the divorce will happen naturally."
"Yeah."
Chloe went to the study. She looked at the proposal for her studio, her eyes filled with hesitation and worry.
