The doctor checked on Walker Grant again and said, "Let’s keep him under observation for a bit longer. If the fever doesn’t return, he should be fine."
Chloe Reed nodded. "Okay."
The doctor left quickly. Chloe Reed looked at the ti and said, "It’s getting late. You should head ho."
But Annie York insisted, "Let stay and keep you company. That way, we can look out for each other tonight."
But Chloe Reed said, "What about your mom? Go on ho. I’ll ssage you tomorrow. If he’s not discharged, you can co back then."
Annie York glanced at the handso, still-unconscious man on the hospital bed. She was reluctant to leave, but nodded anyway. "Okay, ssage then."
"Mm."
"Goodbye, Chloe."
"Goodbye."
The hospital room quickly fell silent.
Chloe Reed was starting to feel drowsy. She yawned, slumped onto the sofa, and closed her eyes.
Sothing tickled her cheek, like a light object brushing back and forth against it.
She reached up to swat at it, but soone grabbed her hand.
Chloe Reed froze. Her eyes flew open to see Walker Grant leaning over her, gripping her wrist. Her hand was hovering just inches from his cheek.
She blinked in confusion for a mont, then asked, "You’re awake?"
Walker asked, "Is this how you take care of a patient?"
Chloe sat up straight, only then realizing he was still holding her wrist. She quickly pulled free. "It’s the middle of the night, why aren’t you sleeping? Can’t this wait until morning?"
Walker slowly straightened up. "You should sleep on the bed."
Chloe’s brow furrowed. She glanced at the ti—three in the morning. The sun would be up in a few hours.
She shook her head. "No, thanks. I’m not fighting a patient for his bed."
But Walker simply turned and sat down beside her. "I like the sofa."
Chloe scowled at him. "Is there sothing wrong with you?"
’There’s a perfectly good bed, but he’d rather fight for the sofa?’
Walker leaned right into her. "Looks like you want to sleep with after all. In that case..."
Before he could finish, Chloe was already on her feet. Expressionless, she got into the bed.
Walker remained leaning to the side. Seeing her reaction, his lips curled into a slight smile. "Sleep well. You’ll need the energy to take care of ."
Chloe simply turned her back to him, pointedly ignoring him.
She really was exhausted. Sitting on the sofa had been uncomfortable, and she fell asleep almost the mont her head hit the pillow.
But in her drowsy state, she felt the blanket being pulled away, followed by a warm body pressing against her back. An arm wrapped around her, radiating a steady heat.
Chloe frowned and mumbled, "Get off ."
Silence fell behind her. Figuring it was just a dream, she didn’t give it a second thought and continued to sleep.
「The next morning.」
Chloe groggily opened her eyes, and the first thing she felt was an arm draped across her waist. A man’s torso was right in front of her. He was facing her, his handso features—usually so sharp—softened in sleep.
She jolted awake, scrambling out of the bed.
Her sudden movent woke Walker. He opened his eyes to see her frantically adjusting her clothes, looking herself up and down.
He sighed. "I’m a patient. What do you think I could have done to you?"
Chloe scowled. "I thought you liked the sofa."
Walker’s lips curled. "I suddenly decided I don’t like it so much anymore. The bed is much more comfortable."
Chloe was speechless.
’Could this man be any more shaless?’
