Walker stepped out of the bathroom to the sound of a phone ringing—his, which had fallen on the floor.
He walked over and picked it up. The call was from the Grant Family Estate.
"Hello?"
The housekeeper’s voice was very respectful. "Sir, Noah says he misses you. He wants you to have dinner with him."
Walker glanced at the ti and said, "Alright, I’ll head over now."
He changed his clothes, went straight downstairs, and left Jardinelle.
Annie York saw him leave and turned to Chloe Reed. "Chloe, isn’t Mr. Grant staying for dinner?"
Without even looking up, Chloe said, "He probably has sothing to do. We don’t need to mind him."
Annie nodded. "Okay."
She went to help the grandmother over for dinner.
The grandmother’s eyes were still vacant, but her focus returned after a few monts.
Seeing Chloe’s unusually flushed complexion, the grandmother suddenly smiled and asked, "Chloe, are you not getting divorced anymore?"
Chloe froze, then shook her head. "We are. Why?"
But the grandmother said, "The way you two are now, you’re like newlyweds. How does that look like you’re getting divorced?"
Chloe finally realized what her grandmother was implying. ’That beast, Walker!’ she cursed inwardly, but she maintained a calm facade as she said, "It’s just an act, Grandma. Don’t read too much into it."
The grandmother paused for a mont, then nodded. "Alright, I won’t let my imagination run wild. I can’t understand you young people anymore."
Chloe felt awkward and chose to remain silent.
Annie glanced at her, her sharp eyes spotting a faint red mark peeking out from under her collar.
’Is that... a hickey?’
’So, when they went back to the room this afternoon, they were doing *that* the whole ti?’
Annie’s face flushed, and she felt a pang of sadness. She lowered her eyes, trying hard to conceal her emotions.
...
Walker drove back to the Grant Family Estate. A bodyguard at the villa’s entrance ca up to et him. "Mr. Grant," the guard said, "soone tried to approach the property again this afternoon. But they were fast, and I couldn’t catch them."
He sounded terrified, his voice trembling.
Walker said, "Install more surveillance caras. Also, have the community upgrade its security system. All vehicles entering and exiting must be registered, and non-residents will have to register as well."
"Yes, sir," the bodyguard replied.
"Uncle."
Noah’s eyes lit up when he saw him, but he didn’t move, just stood there obediently.
Walker walked over, ruffled the boy’s hair, and asked, "What did you want to tell ?"
Noah held out a drawing pad. "I drew a picture today. I wanted to show you."
Walker glanced down and saw three figures simply drawn with watercolor markers on the pad: two adults and a child.
Noah pointed to one of the adults. "This is you, Uncle."
Then, he pointed to the other adult. "And this is Auntie."
Finally, he pointed to the child. "And this is ."
At this, Walker raised an eyebrow. "Not afraid of your aunt anymore?"
Noah hesitated for a mont before saying, "Auntie doesn’t like ."
"Then why did you draw this picture?" Walker asked.
Noah looked up at him. "Uncle, can you take it back to show Auntie? I want her to like ."
Walker was surprised by this, but he nodded. "Alright."
"Co on, let’s go eat."
He picked Noah up in his arms.
Noah laughed, but his gaze drifted to the window, his big eyes twinkling with so unknown thought.
