When Annie York opened the door and saw Walker Grant, her eyes widened in shock and her heart began to pound. A blush crept onto her fair face, and her fingers tightened on the door. She was incredibly nervous and anxious, yet deep down, she felt a secret flicker of anticipation.
’He actually ca looking for this late.’
"Mr. Grant, is sothing the matter?" Annie York struggled to control her emotions, determined to hide her true feelings.
"Out."
Walker Grant’s tone was frigid. He kept his distance, his gaze barely resting on her face before he turned and walked away.
Annie York followed him out, her eyes on his tall, imposing back. He was wearing a black shirt with one hand tucked into his pocket, exuding an air of cold, aloof nobility. He was so handso it made her heart pound uncontrollably.
’What should I do?’
’I think I’m starting to like him more and more.’
Annie York quickly lowered her gaze and took a few deep breaths, burying her feelings deep inside. She absolutely couldn’t let him see any sign of it.
’He isn’t divorced yet. I can’t be a howrecker. Besides, Chloe is so good to . I can never do anything to betray her.’
When they reached the lounge area on the lower level, Walker Grant sat on a sofa. Watching Annie York, who was standing at a distance, he asked in a low voice, "What were you two doing at the hotel?"
Annie York was taken aback by the sudden question, and for a mont, she couldn’t quite process what he ant.
She instinctively looked up, but the mont her gaze t his dark, cold eyes, she quickly looked away. "I... I got my clothes dirty," she stamred. "Chloe took to get it taken care of."
Hearing this, Walker Grant scoffed.
’Such a deep bond they share. To think she’s still covering for Chloe Reed.’
Walker Grant’s voice was grim. "The fact that I’m asking you ans I already know you two went to the pharmacy. I know exactly what you bought. So answer my question honestly, or you can leave right now."
Annie York’s heart clenched, and the color drained from her face. ’This man is as handso as he is dangerous!’
’His presence is terrifying!’
She bit her lip, looking conflicted. "Mr. Grant, you could ask Chloe..."
Walker Grant’s eyes narrowed. "It seems you really do want to leave."
With that, he stood and started for the stairs. "Pack your things," he said as he walked. "Don’t co in tomorrow."
"No!"
Annie York rushed forward, protesting instinctively. Tears welled in her eyes. "Mr. Grant, how can you put in this position? This is between you and Chloe, what does it have to do with ? Are you questioning because you want to betray Chloe?"
Walker Grant watched her, his expression impassive. "She told she’s not pregnant."
Annie York said, "If Chloe already told you, then why are you asking ?"
Walker Grant scrutinized her reaction. Her eyes didn’t waver; they held only indignation and anger.
The last shred of hope in Walker Grant’s heart was extinguished.
She hadn’t been lying to him.
She really wasn’t pregnant.
Walker Grant went upstairs without another word, disappearing from sight.
Once the pressure of his presence was gone, Annie York let out a long breath and dejectedly returned to her room.
Lying on her bed, she found herself staring into space.
’What am I going to do?’
’How on earth am I supposed to control my feelings for him?’
