"I was the one who left you at the orphanage back then. Then I sent reporters to find Charles Reed and Autumn Linton. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have wanted to take responsibility for you. You were brought back to the Reed family, lived as their cherished daughter for over a decade, enjoyed a life of luxury, and even married Julian Grant, the eldest son of Breyburn’s most prominent family. Countless people were green with envy."
Susan Bowman sighed. "It’s just a pity Julian Grant was so ill-fated. If we’d known, you should have just married Walker Grant instead. You’d still be the prestigious young mistress of the Grant family right now."
Sunny Reed bit her lip. "Grandma, please don’t talk about the past. It’s all over now. All I want is for my son to be okay."
Susan Bowman agreed. "He will be. Walker Grant will save him no matter what. In the anti, you just need to be a good girl and do as you’re told, understand?"
"Okay, I know."
"..."
Walker Grant was in low spirits, shrouded in an air of gloom.
Chloe Reed noticed, but simply averted her gaze.
’His business was none of her concern.’
But the old lady grabbed her hand and asked, "Chloe, what’s wrong with Walker? Is he heartbroken?"
Listening from the side, Annie York couldn’t help but laugh. "Grandma, Mr. Grant is *always* heartbroken."
It took the old lady a few seconds to process that. "But he seems especially down lately," she said. "He’s been leaving early and coming ho late. It seems even worse than when he was just moping around before."
Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly. "Perhaps it’s work-related."
The old lady said, "Then tell him to work less. You can’t earn all the money in the world. What’s the point of having a fortune if you work yourself into the ground?"
Chloe Reed nodded. "Okay, I’ll talk to him."
Just then, Walker Grant returned. A distinct chill seed to emanate from him. He greeted the old lady upon entering and imdiately headed upstairs.
Annie York watched his retreating figure, feeling a pang of worry. However, given her position, it wasn’t her place to say anything.
She looked toward Chloe Reed, hoping Chloe would go ask Mr. Grant what was wrong and if he needed any help.
’But if she said that out loud, it would definitely raise suspicions.’
Annie York felt conflicted and miserable.
Chloe Reed was on her phone, chatting with Iris Yates. Iris had finally finished her wedding photoshoot; all that was left was to wait for the wedding itself.
Nathaniel Monroe was handling everything else. All she had to do was stay in top form.
Iris Yates: [This is so weird. It’s a fake marriage, so why am I so nervous?]
Chloe Reed: [You two know it’s fake, but everyone else thinks it’s real. Their excitent is rubbing off on you, so it’s normal to be nervous.]
Iris Yates: [Yeah, you’re right.]
Iris Yates: [Oh, by the way, Chloe, I didn’t get to finish what I was saying last ti. Since Claire Monroe is so capable, what if we had her hypnotize William Quinn and make him forget ? Wouldn’t that solve the problem?]
Chloe Reed: [It’s a good idea, but Claire Monroe is Nathaniel’s sister. Are you really going to tell her everything you’ve been through?]
Iris Yates: [I honestly didn’t even think of that. I’m such an idiot.]
Iris Yates: [Sigh... I guess getting married is the only way. I really don’t get it. Why is William Quinn so obsessed with finding ? It was just a one-night stand! Let it go already.]
Chloe Reed: [I don’t know either. I’d like to ask him the sa thing.]
Iris Yates: [Chloe, if you’re not busy the next few days, co keep company. I’m cooped up at ho all day and I feel like I’m going to get sick from boredom.]
Iris Yates: [Or I could co to you. Are you ho right now? I’ll head over.]
