A carriage sped along the old road, Tamara holding the reins. From her contorted facial features, one could tell that the injury she had managed to stabilize had severely deteriorated again.
After leaving Lance in a huff, she had been confident in her abilities.
Even with grievous injuries and most of her resources depleted, I, Tamara, can still escape to safety!
But now she had only one thought—Lance, save !
She was soon back within Hamlet’s boundaries. Even if she hadn’t cried out, the soldiers at the guard posts would have noticed the wildly dashing carriage.
"What should we do?"
The jittery soldiers looked toward the distance. Two of them even considered moving barricades to block the road, but soone quickly realized sothing.
"The Lord said this carriage would return."
"Then let it pass. I’ll go report to the Lord."
The soldiers didn’t act rashly. Instead, they moved the barricades aside to make way, and one of them hurried off.
In that brief ti, the carriage had already charged past.
"I’m a friend of your Lord! Help stop the person behind !" Tamara yelled this as her gaze swept behind her with a tinge of panic. Even though there was no one in sight, she did not dare linger too long.
The soldiers also noticed this. They looked strangely along the old road; even at its far end, no one was coming.
As the soldiers turned back, Tamara had already driven the carriage into Hamlet. Fortunately, its speed decreased once inside the town’s boundaries.
However, upon entering the town, Tamara still felt no sense of security. She didn’t believe the town’s soldiers could really stop her pursuer. The only one capable is the Lord, but that guy just doesn’t want to get involved.
But if there are casualties among the soldiers, that guy will definitely take action.
Even at a ti like this, Tamara was still scheming against others. One could only say Lance had a keen eye; he was right not to offer her Sanctuary directly.
And it was true. She was a wanderer with no fixed ho who cared little for whom she offended locally, fleeing at the first sign of trouble. Unsurprisingly, she had developed a deceitful, daring, thick-skinned, and reckless personality.
Tamara hurried towards the house, while the Nun, likewise, was seeking the Lord to clarify the situation.
Thus, the two, sharing a common goal, t right at the house door.
"You!" Tamara was the first to speak, her face showing a trace of delight.
Right, there’s soone else in the town who can save ! she thought, then quickly spoke up,
"Geralt! Where is that white-haired man?"
The Nun, already burdened with worries, hesitated at the abrupt question. She wasn’t cunning and simply answered directly,
"I don’t know. I haven’t seen him since this morning."
This news was definitely not good for Tamara, and she began to regret her earlier decision.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t considered hiring Geralt to escort her out of there, but her recent heavy expenses had made her too stingy to part with more money.
Trying to save that little bit of money has caused a disaster!
"You must help !" Tamara imdiately turned her attention to the Nun. "I saved you, and you also damaged one of my treasures!"
The Nun was sowhat taken aback, still unclear on the situation. Just then, a voice laced with a hint of teasing chid in,
"Enough already. Without soone else taking the brunt, you would’ve been dead. You were saving your own life; no one owes anyone anything here."
Lance stepped out. He had been waiting for Tamara to return to him. The Nun’s unexpected appearance was tilting things in an uncontrollable direction, so he had to step forward and prevent Tamara from leading the Nun astray.
He imdiately took control of the situation as soon as he appeared. Tamara felt an urge to retort, but her current predicant didn’t allow for such liberties.
She was greedy, but not foolish.
"What happened?" The Nun seed to finally catch on, voicing her question.
"Help ! Soone wants to kill !" Tamara imdiately interjected, coughing uncontrollably from the urgency, which made her appear even more haggard.
Tamara wouldn’t intentionally provoke Lance, but at this mont, she wanted to seize every opportunity.
The Nun looked at Tamara, her reaction sowhat odd.
The fight had been intense against a formidable and terrifying enemy, so no one had dared to be too distracted. The Nun’s only striking impression of Tamara ca from the torch incident the night before.
Geralt had been the main combatant. Even she herself had played a part in distracting the monster, while this woman had stayed back—though it was true she hadn’t run away.
Of course, the Nun didn’t know Tamara had stayed only because her carriage was trapped, making her reluctant to abandon it; otherwise, she would have fled long ago.
But one judges by actions, not intentions. Since Tamara hadn’t run, that’s what mattered. The Nun, adhering to the Holy Canon, would offer help to a good person.
"Divine Grace!"
The Nun looked solemn. She placed the hand holding the Holy Canon in front of her and, raising her other hand high towards Tamara, made a gesture.
As her words fell, holy power, guided by her, flowed into Tamara. In Lance’s view, a burst of light erupted from Tamara’s body.
Tamara looked as if a parched traveler in the desert had suddenly been given a glass of water. Her condition noticeably eased, and a trace of color returned to her face.
And then an erging smile appeared on her face. Now the loss of the torch doesn’t sting so much anymore, she thought.
The Nun’s decision to intervene and heal Tamara undoubtedly ant she was taking a side, even if she herself seed unaware that Lance’s earlier words had been aid at extricating the Nun herself from the situation.
