Steven Chapman laughed heartily and said, "If you keep this up, the leadership over at Vantage will get angry."
Sienna Thornton shrugged, "Partner Reed knows I’m currently working at The Forresters; he won’t mind."
Steven Chapman nodded, with an ambiguous smile on his face, "True, Thomas Reed is quite generous."
Sienna Thornton sensed sothing off in his words and was about to ponder his aning when she heard him add, "Thomas Reed told before about you, said you’re his most cherished protégé."
Sienna Thornton: "...Partner Reed is also a ntor I greatly respect." As she finished speaking, her smile vanished completely.
The polished reflective walls of the elevator mirrored her frosty expression.
Steven Chapman smiled, ignoring her distaste, and continued, "Regarding the investigation by the Bar Association, Thomas Reed pulled so strings; otherwise, it wouldn’t have been so quiet."
Sienna Thornton didn’t reply, her gaze flicked to catch Steven Chapman’s reflection in the elevator walls.
She had to admit, Steven Chapman was a master at psychological tactics. As soon as he detected her rejection of his ambiguous remarks, he imdiately threw out sothing she deeply cared about to draw her in.
If that’s how it is, then she’d play along.
In an instant, Sienna Thornton feigned a confused yet indignant young deanor and asked, "Mr. Chambers, do you know who’s targeting ?"
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
Steven Chapman politely held the door fra, allowing Sienna Thornton to exit first, "We can discuss in the car."
Sienna Thornton nodded, stepping out of the elevator, naturally waiting a mont aside for Steven Chapman to co out before following him, maintaining a distance of about five centiters between them, an appropriate distance for superior and subordinate.
After walking just a few steps, she suddenly noticed a familiar black car beside the elevator. It was running but hadn’t moved. Upon closer look, it was Simon Forrester’s car.
He was sitting inside the car, his deep eyes curved as if smiling at her, but to her, there was sothing strange about his smile.
Steven Chapman turned his head, pointing not far ahead, "My car is over there, almost there."
"Oh, okay." Sienna Thornton said and followed.
At this mont, Simon Forrester’s car drove out of its spot.
Knowing full well his car was approaching, Sienna Thornton slightly stepped aside.
Steven Chapman glanced back, saw that the person inside was Simon Forrester, paused his steps, and also stepped to the side.
The black S90 stopped in front of them, its spotless windows rolled down. Simon Forrester, already wearing sunglasses, smiled and asked, "Mr. Chambers, are you holding a welcoming ceremony for the newcor tonight?"
Steven Chapman smiled: "I heard Mr. Thornton isn’t driving today, so I’m giving her a lift."
Simon Forrester then looked towards Sienna Thornton, standing aside, and asked, "I’m also heading ho; does Mr. Thornton want a ride with ?"
Sienna Thornton: "Thank you, Young Mr. Ford, but I have dinner plans with soone else this evening."
Simon Forrester: "Alright then, I’ll be off."
With that, the window rolled up, and the car drove away.
Steven Chapman made a gesture of invitation again, took a few steps forward, and suddenly said: "Young Mr. Ford is humble; most scions drive multimillion-dollar supercars, but he’s practical, always driving a Volvo worth over a hundred thousand."
"Yes, everyone has a different personality. Young Mr. Ford is pragmatic."
"Young Mr. Ford is talented, but he has no interest in managing the company," Steven Chapman said, "If he wanted to take over The Forresters, Chairman Forrester could retire sooner."
Sienna Thornton smiled but didn’t respond.
Once in the car, Steven Chapman didn’t ntion anything about the Bar Association investigation, instead kept steering the conversation towards Simon Forrester.
Sienna Thornton, unsure how Thomas Reed might describe her and Simon Forrester’s relationship, didn’t reveal much to Steven Chapman, rely going along with the conversation.
It wasn’t until near the end of the ride that Steven Chapman reminded, "Soone at Vantage might be targeting you, not necessarily due to your own issues, but perhaps because of the people around you."
Sienna Thornton didn’t quite understand and was about to ask what he ant when he unlocked the car door and added: "Anyway, now that you’re with The Forresters, whether the Bar Association investigates you or not, it won’t matter."
Sienna Thornton: "..."
As the car drove off, Sienna Thornton watched the Audi blend into the traffic of the evening rush hour, smirking sarcastically, thinking: Steven Chapman is adept at Tai Chi, even more so at pointless conversation. Everything he said today carried just one piece of useful information, while the rest was either official jargon or aningless babble to distract.
She snapped out of her thoughts, turned, and entered the restaurant where she had planned to et Rochelle Linwood.
-
Sienna Thornton saw Rochelle Linwood off and stood by the roadside waiting for Simon Forrester to pick her up.
Soon, the black S90 turned on its right indicator and turned into the lane.
Sienna Thornton quickly got in the car and closed the door.
Simon Forrester turned the steering wheel, and the car rged onto the main road.
"How did the talk go?" he asked.
Sienna Thornton fastened her seatbelt and said, "It’s settled. Rochelle should be able to start in about a week. Then I’ll have her find a way to download all the group contracts from the contract team and study them slowly afterward."
Simon Forrester frowned, "Steven Chapman doesn’t let you handle contracts?"
"Yes, during the eting this afternoon, I was assigned to oversee litigation, non-litigation, and tax issues," Sienna Thornton said, "But there’s sothing interesting; both he and your aunt think I’m Partner Reed’s mole."
Simon Forrester said nothing, contemplating the current situation as he drove.
Sienna Thornton said, "But if they ntion to Partner Reed, and he clarifies, they’ll find out the truth."
"Thomas Reed won’t necessarily say that," Simon Forrester sneered slightly, "He still thinks you’re just ssing around at The Forresters, so keep up the appearance with them. Once we get the contracts and uncover any issues, I’ll report it to the board, and Steven Chapman will be out imdiately!"
Sienna Thornton looked at him, "What happens after Mr. Chambers is gone?"
Simon Forrester freed a hand to hold hers, "Then you’ll be the Vice President of Legal Affairs, and if you really don’t like working in the group, we could set up our own law firm and integrate The Forresters’ legal business into it."
Sienna Thornton’s face finally lit up with happiness, holding Simon’s hand, cheek brushing against the back of his hand, "That’s a great idea."
Simon Forrester: "Of course, also, consider who thought of it."
Sienna Thornton laughed heartily, sitting up straight, tidied her expensive shirt, and said, "Having a job is nice; the days go by quickly and are fulfilling. Staying at ho just makes feel like my brain’s getting dull."
Simon Forrester raised a hand to pinch her cervical spine, "I just like how cute you are when you’re a little dull."
Sienna Thornton laughed but lacked the energy to bicker with him further.
The car went onto the overpass heading towards the dazzling and bustling CBD of Brimfield.
Sienna Thornton and Simon Forrester chatted about how to uncover evidence of Bianca Fordham and Steven Chapman’s misconduct as they neared the apartnt.
Holding hands, they entered the elevator. As soon as the elevator doors closed, Simon Forrester pursed his lips slightly and whispered, "I feel like kissing you right now."
