Simon Forrester’s face was grim: "Yes, I don’t know what Ms. Langley is up to."
Old Master Forrester chuckled, gently patting his hand for comfort: "She probably still wants to create opportunities for you two. No wonder she was so enthusiastic last night saying she wanted to host a blessing banquet for my discharge today, turns out she wanted to bring the Sinclair girl over to et you, just like when you had your birthday at the old mansion last ti. Your mom also took the initiative to invite the Sinclair Family."
Simon Forrester was agitated and said nothing. After a while, he stated: "I have to leave soon; Candy is still working overti at the firm. I need to go check on her."
Cognitas Law is located near a park adjacent to the Forrester Group. By day, the view is nice; at night, it gets a bit desolate.
Hence, Old Master Forrester understood Simon Forrester’s concerns, agreeing: "Hmm, have so appetizers and a bit of noodles, and leave once you’re full. Your grandfather’s got your back here."
With Old Master Forrester’s words, Simon Forrester felt assured, sitting beside the old man, sotis chatting with him, sotis ssaging Sienna Thornton to ask if she’d eaten and what ti she was getting off work.
While chatting with Sienna about plans for a movie outing over the weekend, he suddenly heard Sylvia Langley’s voice testing the microphone.
Simon Forrester looked up to see the elegantly dressed Sylvia Langley, microphone in hand, standing at the center of the revolving restaurant, smiling at all the guests: "Thank you all for taking the ti to co today. Today is not only the blessing banquet for my father-in-law’s discharge, I also have an important announcent to make."
Saying this, she glanced at Nina Sinclair and Simon Forrester: "Today, I wish to hold a small, low-key engagent ceremony for my beloved son Simon Forrester and the Sinclair family’s heiress, known only to our dear friends and family here!"
After speaking, she clapped her hands with the microphone.
All the guests present, except for Simon Forrester, Old Master Forrester, and Thomas Reed, joined in applause.
Standing at the center of the revolving platform, Sylvia Langley smiled with satisfaction and accomplishnt, while Simon Forrester sat with an utterly darkened face.
He said nothing, nor did he embarrass Sylvia Langley in front of so many people. He tossed the napkin aside, said to Old Master Forrester, "Grandpa, I’m leaving first," and swiftly exited the restaurant.
His departure was a protest against Sylvia Langley’s actions.
Seeing her son leave disrespectfully, Sylvia Langley’s face faltered for a mont, forcing a smile as she spoke into the microphone: "My Jules is shy, it’s okay. Today, both parents are present, including my father-in-law and mother-in-law. The elders have arranged this marriage, so it’s settled!"
With that, she was about to summon the waitstaff at the door to serve the dishes, but before she could speak, Old Master Forrester roared: "Are you out of your mind? What nonsense are you on about?"
Old Master Forrester rose with a livid face, everyone looked over.
The old man was so angry his face turned red, and he turned to curse at Zane Forrester sitting nearby: "Elliot! If you indulge this crazy wife any longer, you all can roll back to the United States! Don’t ever co back! As for the Forrester business, stay out of it too! As long as I’m around, I call the shots! You dare engage Jules behind my back, are you treating as if I’m dead? Huh? Are you trying to use this to kill off, so you can be the head of the Forrester family? Let tell you! No way! Get out! All of you, get out of my sight!"
Zane Forrester had never seen Old Master Forrester so furious, he was montarily stunned.
In truth, the matter of holding an engagent ceremony for Simon Forrester and Nina Sinclair was sothing he initially disagreed with. This would certainly cause a stir, but he couldn’t resist Sylvia Langley’s relentless insistence, so he acquiesced.
After all, to him, his son marrying the foolish Nina Sinclair was easier than marrying the formidable Sienna Thornton.
Yet he never expected that his father, who usually maintained his dignity in front of others, would scold him like a child tonight and order him to leave. For soone who needed to socialize outside regularly, this was a grave humiliation.
But he couldn’t defy Old Master Forrester in front of so many guests, so he could only swallow his fury, clenching his teeth, unable to let it go.
"Darling!" Sylvia Langley, feeling both angry and wronged, rushed over with reddened eyes, stood beside Zane Forrester, shouting, "Darling! Our son is yours! Why can’t we arrange an engagent for him! Our son isn’t your father’s! Why not? He’s monopolized our son for over thirty years, isn’t that enough?!"
Sylvia Langley, in fact, never really liked her in-laws, so shortly after giving birth to Simon Forrester, she accompanied Zane Forrester to the United States to establish Forrester’s overseas operations, and hadn’t stayed back for long ever since.
Her in-laws hadn’t done much to her, except the old folks wanted more kids and occasionally urged her to have a second child. She loved to play and look good; having one child felt like a great favor to the Forresters, how could she have another one to ruin her perfect figure and precious freedom?
Thus, she bore a grudge against the elders.
On the surface, everything was courteous, but behind the scenes, she always resented the two elders, often stirring trouble in front of Zane Forrester.
Tonight, seeing Old Master Forrester publicly scold Zane Forrester, Sylvia Langley felt her chance had co; it was ti to push Zane Forrester into a confrontation with Old Master Forrester.
If successful, Old Master Forrester’s fear of having only one son might just elevate Zane Forrester’s position within the Forrester family.
Considering this, she used even sharper words to provoke Zane Forrester: "Darling! They’re telling you to leave, why are you still standing here?! Co on, let’s go together, take Jules with us! Let this old man stay with his beloved daughter and grandson here!"
With that, she attempted to grab Zane Forrester’s hand.
Zane Forrester, infuriated to the point that his chest heaved, face red as if his blood vessels were about to burst, the genteel deanor was nowhere to be seen, replaced by sheer ferocity.
He turned around, raised his hand, and slapped Sylvia Langley hard!
With the strength of a man, that slap left Sylvia Langley bewildered, a trace of blood seeping from her mouth...
