Sienna Thornton and Quentin Thorne are not the type to drag things out. Both having studied law, their minds work quickly and logically. She asks a question, he answers to the point, and gradually the misunderstandings dissolve.
When they left the teahouse, it was already dark.
The two walked out of the teahouse and strolled along the artificial lake at Serene Lake back to the old residence.
At that ti, it was just the beginning of spring in Brimfield. The night wind was fierce. Sienna had rushed out without a scarf, and even with the high collar of her wool coat turned up, she still felt the wind skimming down her neck.
Her teeth were chattering from the cold. Seeing this, Quentin Thorne arched his arm close to her and joked, "Sienna, holding onto Daddy’s arm might make you feel less cold."
She glanced down at Quentin’s arm, feeling uncomfortable once more, and ultimately didn’t take it, stuffing her hands into her pockets and walking quickly ahead.
Quentin caught up without saying anything, just smiling.
Soon, he saw soone selling small accessories for girls by the roadside, and he jogged over. Sienna saw him take out a green banknote and hand it over, then return with a red scarf.
"Sienna," Quentin Thorne held up the scarf, "Here, wear this, and you won’t feel cold."
Despite her discomfort, Sienna looked at him and almost involuntarily leaned her head forward, allowing him to drape the scarf over her neck. She awkwardly reached out and wrapped it around twice.
Watching her put on the scarf, Quentin’s eyes curved with his smile, "You look really good in red!"
Like any parent, he believed his daughter should always wear bright, lively colors like red.
Sienna chuckled, her hands back in the pockets of her coat, and walked on, "This scarf’s material is average, not pure wool. It feels scratchy around the neck. Don’t buy things from the roadside next ti."
"Okay, next ti, Daddy will take you to the mall for a branded cashre scarf."
Sienna smiled and said no more.
The dim streetlights of Serene Lake Park stretched their shadows long...
.
They walked all the way to the entrance of the Forrester Family’s old residence.
Sienna glanced at the light inside the high walls of the neighboring Grant Family and looked at Quentin worriedly, "When you go back, will you have to clean up the aftermath?"
"I have my ways, don’t worry about Daddy," Quentin reassured her with a smile, the overhead lights casting shadows under his eyes.
Sienna nodded and turned to knock on the Forrester Family’s door.
"Sienna..." Quentin suddenly called out.
Sienna turned to him, "What is it?"
"Are you free tomorrow? I’d like to take you to see Grandma at the Thorne Family’s old residence."
"Maybe another ti, it’s not suitable right now."
"Alright." Quentin did not press further, waving at her, "Go on in. They’re probably waiting for you to have dinner."
As they spoke, the Forrester Family gate opened.
Simon Forrester walked out, nodding at Quentin, "Uncle Thorne, won’t you co in and sit for a while?"
For so reason, upon seeing Simon, Quentin’s smile vanished completely, and he said seriously, "No need," before turning to leave.
It was then that Sienna rembered the whole afternoon spent on reconciliation and hadn’t yet asked Quentin why he didn’t approve of her joining the Forrester Family by marriage.
She shook her head with a laugh, took Simon’s arm, and entered the Forrester Family’s old residence.
.
"Looks like you two have patched things up?" Simon tightened his grip around her arm, chuckling softly.
"Mm..." Sienna still felt a bit uneasy, "We’ve talked it all out; he has his own difficulties."
Thinking back, she realized she should have known Quentin hadn’t done anything seriously wrong, especially since Simon never made any negative remarks about him or complained about him around her.
Had there been anything serious, soone like Simon wouldn’t likely have let her leave the Forrester Family’s old residence with Quentin this afternoon.
Simon didn’t say much, perhaps due to the people and chatter around the old residence, only suggesting, "Let’s talk about it later tonight back at the apartnt."
.
They entered the dining room where the entire Forrester Family was waiting for Sienna to finish her al.
Seeing her co in, Old Master Forrester smiled and said, "Thornton, you’re back? Co and eat."
Sylvia Langley quickly went over to pull her to sit beside her.
Most people’s attitudes remained the sa, except for Zane Forrester, who had always been cold and distant. Now he was all smiles, enthusiastically saying, "The wind’s pretty strong outside, right? We thought you and Dean Thorne might co back after eating out."
Sienna: "... No, we just had tea and ca back."
Bianca Fordham, sitting opposite, spoke warmly as well, "I thought so, Thornton... Oh no, should we call you Thorne now? When you first ca to our house, I thought you looked familiar! So, you’re Dean Thorne’s biological daughter!"
Upon hearing this, Grandma Forrester asked, "Hey, Thornton, do you have your mother’s surna?"
Zane Forrester: "No, isn’t her mother’s surna ’Li’?"
Sienna was speechless, realizing Zane had thoroughly investigated her background. It figures that a person who’d have people watch over his nephew continuously would also dig into his son’s girlfriend.
The Forrester Family started discussing why Quentin had the surna "Thorne," linda Linton had the surna "Li," and Sienna ended up with "Thornton."
Mrs. Reed chid in, "Could it be she followed her dad’s surna?"
Zane Forrester: "No, her stepfather’s surna is ’Ruan’."
Sienna: "..."
Unable to listen anymore, Simon tossed his chopsticks on the table with a cold, "Co on, is there really a need to be so curious?"
Sylvia Langley, perceptive as always, changed the subject, "Alright, alright, the dishes are getting cold. Let’s eat!"
That al concluded with the Forrester Family’s various praises for Sienna.
When it beca dark and chilly after dinner, everyone prepared to head ho and warm up in bed.
Sienna and Simon went to Sylvia’s room to get the jewelry and wedding dress to try on back at the apartnt. As they ca out of the side room, they didn’t pass through the living room but went directly through the corridor at the back to the outer courtyard to drive.
As they entered the corridor, they could hear Bianca Fordham’s voice from afar.
Getting closer, they heard Bianca scolding her daughter-in-law: "You brainless fool! If Dean Thorne finds out you scratched his eldest daughter’s face, neither you nor your family will see the end of it!"
Mrs. Reed’s voice sounded wronged, "I didn’t know she was Dean Thorne’s daughter at the ti!"
Then ca a ’smack’ sound, as if Bianca was smacking her daughter-in-law’s back, and quite hard!
"Can’t you see that face is a spitting image of Dean Thorne? How could you scratch soone without thinking? Are your eyes just for show? You brainless idiot! If Tobias falls into trouble with Dean Thorne, it’ll definitely be your fault! Just wait and see how I’ll teach you a lesson then!"
