In the evening, Sienna Thornton ntioned to Simon Forrester what Director-General Linton said today. Simon Forrester laughed and said, "If you maintain the sa work ethic and achievents as last year, you’ll probably be promoted to Director-General before you turn forty and beco a deputy minister candidate before fifty."
His words made Sienna feel even more passionate, and she firmly said, "This year, I must be more dedicated to my work than last year and strive to ace the case by the end of November, adding another perfect touch to my resu!"
Simon Forrester was genuinely happy for her. Today’s news finally washed away the sense of vague lancholy that had been lingering since they found out about Ian Grant’s cancer diagnosis.
He hugged her and said, "Now that we’re married and settled, we can wait until next year to have children. This year, you can focus all your energy on the case."
Sienna laughed, poked his cheek with her index finger, and said, "Hey, I think you’re quite decisive about other things, so why do you keep changing your mind about having kids? You’re even more hesitant than a girl like ..."
Simon Forrester felt a bit embarrassed and laughed, "That day, I just spoke on impulse. Later on, I realized it’s not a matter of one or two years."
Sienna rarely saw him look so embarrassed, so she burst into laughter, "Alright then! Just go with the flow. You can work while pregnant, after all. Many mothers work until they’re about to give birth..."
.
A few days later, on Saturday, Sienna and Simon Forrester returned to the old residence for dinner, spending the weekend with Old Master Forrester.
Zane Forrester and his wife had returned to the United States while their son and daughter-in-law went to Yorai for their honeymoon. Grandma Forrester was also staying at Bianca Fordham’s place, making Old Master Forrester a free yet lonely empty-nester.
He felt free because no one was around to bother him—his son, daughter-in-law, and wife were all away from ho, and he was so happy it seed like he could fly; but he felt lonely because his most cherished grandson and granddaughter-in-law were not around, and the longing turned his freedom into a different flavor.
Due to Old Master Forrester’s strong request, Simon Forrester and Sienna promised to stay overnight at the old residence on Saturday evening.
After a nap, they saw the old man take his birdcage, seemingly heading out again to walk his birds. Sienna was a bit surprised and asked Simon Forrester, "Considering Ian’s current condition, does Old Master Grant still have the mood to go bird walking with Grandpa?"
Simon Forrester, who was watching the news on TV, turned his head, glanced over Sienna’s shoulder at the gray brick wall of the neighboring Grant family’s house, and said thoughtfully, "Probably didn’t dare to let Grandpa Grant know, afraid the old man couldn’t take it, given his old age."
Sienna sighed, "I wonder how Ian is doing now..."
"How about I ask Ash to co tonight to hang out and inquire?"
"Sure."
Simon Forrester imdiately called Ronan Grant, who always responded right away, and this ti was no exception.
In the evening, Ronan ca over.
"Cyrus, Sienna," Ronan still had that carefree deanor. As soon as he entered the living room, he leaned back against the sofa and plopped into a sofa chair, asking right away, "Did you bring any gifts for ?"
Simon Forrester took out the latest handheld ga console he bought in the Silvera District. Ronan’s eyes lit up imdiately, quickly unwrapping the package, connecting to the internet, and starting to download gas.
Sienna exchanged a glance with Simon Forrester.
Simon Forrester imdiately kicked Ronan’s foot and asked, "What’s your cousin up to lately?"
Ronan, focused entirely on the gaming console, casually asked, "Do you an Cousin Mina?"
Simon Forrester: "Yes."
Ronan: "She went to the United States with Seth Sutton."
Simon Forrester: "What for?"
Ronan: "My aunt is sick, and they said they went there for treatnt."
Sienna: "Do you know what kind of illness it is?"
Ronan: "I’m not sure. My mom went too. Should I call and ask?"
Simon Forrester: "Go ahead."
Ronan put down the ga console and took out his phone to call Ingrid Grant.
It wasn’t dawn yet in the United States. Although Ingrid was woken up by her son, she answered all his questions.
After the call, Ronan said, "Mom said Aunt is not undergoing treatnt in the United States anymore and will be back in a few days."
Simon Forrester and Sienna exchanged knowing looks.
A few more days passed. On Friday evening, after work, Sienna went to linda Linton’s place. Just as she parked her car, she saw Quentin Thorne’s car arrive.
She quickly got out of the car and stood by the roadside waiting for him.
During those few dozen seconds of waiting, her emotions were extrely complex.
Quentin Thorne got out of the car quickly. She approached him and, upon seeing that he had lost weight, even though she was ntally prepared, she still felt pained.
She quickly walked over, took Quentin Thorne’s arm, and said sweetly, "You’re back? Are you having dinner here tonight?"
Quentin Thorne held his eldest daughter’s arm tightly, gently patted her hand, and nodded, "Yes, I’ll have dinner here tonight...if it’s alright..."
He didn’t continue.
Sienna knew what he ant and, despite knowing it was inappropriate, still asked, "After dinner, it’s quite late. Do you want to rest here?"
Quentin Thorne sighed, "I know I can’t."
"You can," Sienna said, "I’ll sleep with Mom, and you can sleep with my husband."
Quentin Thorne paused for a mont but didn’t object.
As they entered the elevator, Sienna naturally shifted the conversation to Ian Grant, "If you’re not going ho, won’t Aunt Grant and Mina worry?"
"Ian and Mina went to Qinton."
Sienna was surprised.
Ian was so ill, yet he’s not staying in the hospital for treatnt or resting at ho and is going sightseeing?
Although she thought this, she didn’t ask further.
As they exited the elevator, Quentin Thorne suddenly stopped and, after a few seconds of silence, said, "Annie, I have sothing to tell you, let’s talk over there."
Saying this, he walked towards the sky garden opposite the front door.
Sienna followed him over.
At the viewpoint, they found a place to sit, and Quentin Thorne said, "A month ago, Ian went to the hospital for rib and head pain and was later diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. Doctors in both the United States and here felt surgery was unnecessary but suggested trying radiotherapy and chemotherapy. After a week of treatnt in the United States, Ian couldn’t bear the pain and decided to give up on dical treatnt..."
At this point, Quentin Thorne couldn’t continue, lowering his head.
Sienna, having been ntally prepared, was not too surprised and did not pretend to be shocked. She calmly asked, "So now that she’s going to Qinton, is it?"
Quentin Thorne shook his head helplessly, "Soone recomnded a master over there to her, saying he could help her overco this hurdle. We all know she should be in a hospital for treatnt, anything is better than nothing, but she’s determined to go, and no one can stop her. Mina and Seth Sutton had to accompany her."
Sienna was at a loss for words...
Reaching the point of believing in ghosts and gods to such an extent, it seems there’s no cure left...
