As I lay in bed with Shalltear, our bodies pressed together in the aftermath of our passion, a deep sense of satisfaction filled the room. Her crimson eyes glead with affection as she traced circles on my chest, but before we could continue our next round, a voice echoed in my head.
"Dear, your world has been destroyed." Death’s familiar voice rang through my mind, calm and matter-of-fact, as if she were comnting on the weather.
And just like that, my mood shattered.
I let out a long sigh, rubbing my temples. "You know, Death, there’s such a thing as timing."
Shalltear blinked, tilting her head in confusion. "My Lord? Is sothing wrong?"
I forced a small smile as I sat up. "Get dressed, Shalltear. I need to take a walk." With a simple thought, my clothes materialized back onto my body.
Shalltear pouted slightly but obeyed, slipping into her usual elegant attire. "Is sothing troubling you?"
I hesitated for a mont before shaking my head. "It’s nothing serious. I just need to clear my head."
Without another word, I stepped out of the room, leaving her behind as I made my way through the dimly lit hallways. The cool night air brushed against my skin as I exited the building, staring up at the sky.
"Alright, Death," I said, "explain."
"You already know the answer, dear," Death replied, her tone as soothing as ever despite the grim subject. "Human greed is an insatiable beast. No one—not gods, not kings, not even corporations—could truly contain it. They dug their own graves, and now the earth itself has swallowed them whole."
I closed my eyes, feeling a familiar bitterness rise within . "So they actually went through with it? They tried to extract the planet’s geothermal energy?"
"Yes," Death confird. "They knew it was a death sentence, but desperation and greed drove them forward. The world was already in ruins—pollution so thick that sunlight could barely reach the surface, oceans turned into toxic wastelands. The corporations knew they were running out of resources, so they gambled everything on one last, reckless plan. And, as expected, they lost."
A part of had expected this. That world had been dying for decades. The air was barely breathable, the sky forever stained in hues of gray and brown. It had only been a matter of ti before they pushed things too far.
Still, hearing that it was truly gone... left an odd feeling in my chest.
"What about my friends?" I asked after a mont of silence. "Momonga, Ulbert, Touch , Peroroncino, Yamako, and the others?"
Death paused before answering. "Most of them lived full lives. They grew old and passed away peacefully. Touch , for example, retired and spent his final years surrounded by his loved ones. Ulbert, despite his nature, settled down. Even Peroroncino eventually found happiness."
I exhaled slowly. That was... sowhat comforting. At least they weren’t caught in the destruction.
But sothing told that wasn’t the full story.
"And the others?" I pressed.
Death’s voice softened. "Bellriver and Blue Planet weren’t as fortunate."
"What happened?"
"They were murdered."
Silence followed those words.
"They tried to expose the corporations," Death continued. "Bellriver always had a rebellious streak, and Blue Planet... well, you know how much he loved the Earth. When they realized what was happening, they attempted to leak classified information about the planet’s worsening state. The corporations couldn’t allow that. They were silenced before their voices could be heard."
Bellriver and Blue Planet had been so of the few who genuinely cared about the world. They saw the rot, the corruption, and they tried to fight against it.
And for that, they were erased.
"So that’s how it ended, huh?" I muttered. "A world choked by its own greed until there was nothing left."
"Yes," Death replied. "There was no salvation for them. Only ruin."
I stood in silence, letting the weight of it all sink in.
That world—the world where I was reincarnated, where Yggdrasil once thrived, where I t my friends—was now nothing but dust and mories.
I had long since moved beyond that life, but knowing that it had truly, irreversibly ended left a strange emptiness inside .
After a mont, I took a deep breath and straightened my posture.
"I see," I finally said. "Then there’s nothing more to dwell on."
Death chuckled softly. "You recover quickly, dear. That’s one of the things I admire about you."
"It’s not like I have a choice. I was the one who made the decision to travel the multiverse, and I was also the one who didn’t ask them to stay in the final mont of Yggdrasil. So if I feel guilt now, that would be hypocrisy. The past is gone, and I still have plenty to do in the present."
With that, I turned away from the night sky, ready to return inside.
I could grieve for that world later—if I ever decided to. But it is weird that I sounded so emotionless. Maybe it’s because of vampire constitution, but one thing I am sure of is that I accepted the destruction of a world way to easily.
As I stepped back into the room, Shalltear was waiting for , her crimson eyes watching carefully.
"Did sothing happen, my Lord?" she asked.
I gave her a reassuring smile, brushing a strand of her silvery hair behind her ear. "It’s nothing to worry about. Just a bit of old news."
Shalltear frowned slightly but didn’t push further. "If you say so... but if anything troubles you, please don’t hesitate to share it with ."
