The knight in full plate armor stood before the girl and her little sister, his sword raised high.

His blade glead in the sun, and he poised himself, ready to end their lives in a single rciful stroke.

The girl squeezed her eyes tightly shut and bit her lower lip. She had never asked for this. She had been forced into her present circumstances. If only she had so strength, she might have resisted the enemy in front of her and fled.

However, the girl did not have that strength.

Thus, there could only be one outco to this situation.

That would be the girl’s death, at this very place.

The longsword fell-

—and yet there was no pain.

The girl gingerly opened the eyes, which had been squeezed shut.

The first thing she saw was the suddenly motionless longsword.

Then, she saw the sword’s owner.

The knight in front of her was frozen in place, his eyes looking sowhere off to the girl’s side. His completely defenseless posture clearly displayed the fear that filled him.

As though drawn by the knight’s gaze, the girl could not help but turn and look in the sa direction as him.

And so the girl gazed upon despair.

What she saw was darkness.

It was an infinitesimally thin, yet unfathomably deep blackness. It was a half-oval of obsidian that seed to protrude from the earth. It was a mysterious sight that filled the ones watching it with a powerful sense of unease.

Was it a door?

The girl could not help but think so after she saw what lay before her.

As her heart lurched, the girl’s conjecture was confird.

Sothing seed to be coming out of that shadowy passage.

And in the mont that it resolved itself in her eyes

-a deafening shriek ca from the girl.

He was the most handso man she had ever seen.

Two crimson eyes, with a sharp jawline, the man wore an earring on his left ear. His beauty was unreal, almost divine. There was a sword hanging out from his hip; it looks like he is a swordsman.

The man, who appeared from the black passage, looked at her, then he looked the knight, and then he smirked as if he found prey to hunt.

The mont I arrived, I took a quick glance around. Towering trees surrounded , their dense canopies allowing only fragnts of sunlight to filter through. The earthy scent of the forest filled my senses, the rustling of leaves carried by the gentle breeze. It seed like I had successfully reached the New World.

Turning slightly, I noticed Solution standing nearby, her expression impassive as she scanned the surroundings. Demiurge, on the other hand, was already analyzing everything with his usual calculating gaze, as if he could see a grander sche in every tree and blade of grass.

"It appears we have arrived safely, my lord," Demiurge said, adjusting his glasses. "The atmospheric composition and magical presence suggest we are indeed in a world similar to Yggdrasil’s system. I shall begin cataloging any notable deviations from our expectations."

I nodded. "Good. I don’t know exactly where we are, so let’s get a better view."

With a simple motion, I unfolded my wings and propelled myself into the sky. Solution and Demiurge followed suit, gracefully ascending with . As we rose above the treetops, a vast expanse of greenery stretched out beneath us. The forest was massive, extending in all directions, with no visible landmarks nearby.

"A vast wilderness, though I suspect civilization is not too far," Demiurge noted, scanning the horizon. "Forests such as these often border human settlents, as they provide both resources and a natural defense."

Solution smiled slightly. "More importantly, forests like these are hunting grounds—for both prey and predators alike."

I humd in response. This was the world of Overlord, after all. I had co here for one reason: to witness the canonical world where Nazarick was supposed to appear. There was no singular goal for here—no imdiate threats, no grand conquest, no rival force opposing .

But that didn’t an my ti here had to be wasted.

"I suppose this world would be a good place to refine my breathing technique," I mused, flexing my fingers slightly. "The one I developed in the Demon Slayer world. There aren’t many high-level threats here, only weak monsters. A perfect training ground."

Demiurge nodded approvingly. "A wise decision, my lord. Mastering techniques beyond the known limits of Nazarick will only strengthen your already overwhelming power."

Then he continued. "If that is your goal, would it not be beneficial to also take up local activities to further imrse yourself in this world’s ways?"

I considered her words. "You an like becoming an adventurer?"

He smiled. "Indeed. It would provide you with combat experience against this world’s creatures, as well as a ans of gathering wealth and information."

"Not a bad idea," I admitted. "Getting paid to kill monsters? That sounds easy enough."

I reached into my inventory and pulled out a katana, its polished blade gleaming in the sunlight. Just as I was about to test a few swings, my ears picked up a distant sound.

A scream.

I imdiately turned my head toward the source. My senses sharpened—soone was in danger.

Demiurge instantly straightened. "A distress call. Shall we investigate?"

I wasted no ti. "Gate."

A shimring portal opened before , leading straight toward the sound. Without hesitation, I stepped through, with Solution and Demiurge following close behind.

On the other side, the scene that greeted was one of chaos.

A small village girl, no older than six or seven, was clutching the hand of an older girl—her sister, by the looks of it—while being chased by a group of knights in battered armor.

The insignia on their chests was unfamiliar, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was that they were hunting down innocent children.

The older girl, Enri Emmot, had tears streaming down her face as she desperately pulled her sister along, her breathing ragged. But she was slowing down, exhaustion setting in.

The knights, grinning with cruel amusent, were gaining on them.

I stepped forward, my presence imdiately drawing their attention.

One of the knights sneered. "Who the hell are—"

He didn’t finish his sentence.

In the blink of an eye, I closed the distance between us, my katana slicing through the air.

A sharp whistle cut through the forest as the blade found its mark—one clean stroke, and the knight’s head was separated from his body. Blood sprayed into the air as his lifeless form crumpled to the ground.

The other knights froze.

"What—?!"

I tilted my head. "Go on. Keep chasing them. See what happens."

A heavy silence followed, broken only by the sound of Enri’s panicked breathing. The knights hesitated, looking at each other, as if trying to determine whether they should fight or run.

Demiurge adjusted his glasses, stepping beside . "It would appear these n are unaware of their own insignificance." His voice was calm, but there was a distinct undercurrent of amusent.

Solution giggled, her eyes flashing with hunger. "Shall I dispose of them, my lord? Or would you prefer to play with them a little longer?"

I sighed, rolling my shoulders. "I was in the middle of sothing before this interruption. Let’s wrap this up quickly."

The remaining knights barely had ti to react before the next strike ca.
