After leaving the main administration building, Yan Feifan parted ways with Mrs. Yu and returned to Qin Ying's dical laboratory alone.
In response to the concern from Mrs. Qin, Yu Suye, and He Junxing, Yan Feifan briefly described the investigation he had just gone through.
He added, "Mrs. Yu also said she would take care of it and that I should just go about my business and not worry."
Qin Ying scoffed and said with displeasure, "If she doesn't take care of it, who will?"
"If she hadn't gotten greedy and eaten sothing that upset her stomach, none of this other ss would have happened."
"Anyone can get sick. Sotis..."
Yan Feifan had barely gotten half a sentence out in Chen Yu's defense when he noticed Mrs. Qin's expression darkening and wisely shut his mouth.
Qin Ying snorted coldly, her face stern. "It looks like the patient just got greedy and is trying to use this accident to extort so money."
She added with a look of contempt, "And how is Chen Yu even a departnt director? She has no authority at all. What a failure."
"She issued a gag order, and yet she still let word of this get everywhere."
"Feifan..."
Qin Ying instructed him seriously, "When you form your own surgical team in the future, professional skill is one thing, but loyalty and discretion are also extrely important."
Yan Feifan grunted in acknowledgnt. "Mrs. Qin, when I'm qualified to form my own dical team, I'll be sure to keep that in mind."
Qin Ying nodded in satisfaction. "At the rate you're progressing, I'm sure that day won't be far off."
"As for this complaint and investigation..."
Qin Ying added reassuringly, "You have to trust that the hospital will reach a fair conclusion."
"Alright, let's get to work!"
Qin Ying pointed to the organ preservation container on the workbench. "I had He Junxing retrieve this from the hospital's specin lab. You can start your practice now."
Yan Feifan changed into his lab scrubs, walked over to the workbench, and opened the organ preservation container.
Inside were a left hand and a left foot.
He examined them and found the skin still had so elasticity. They must have been specins the hospital had received in the last day or two.
Furthermore, judging by the skin texture, shape, and bone cross-sections of the hand and foot, the specins ca from a young woman under the age of thirty.
'Unknown donor, thank you for your contribution. Please forgive the intrusion.'
Yan Feifan recited silently, and with Yu Suye's assistance, he began the total reconstruction of the left thumb.
The specin's left big toe was much larger than its left thumb.
To ensure the closest possible resemblance, Yan Feifan decided to use the bone from the specin's second toe and the nail from the big toe as the main components for the reconstructed thumb.
The first step, of course, was to amputate the specin's left thumb.
To increase the difficulty, Qin Ying perford this step herself. The resulting incision was deliberately jagged...
「Inpatient Building No. 6, Pan Lirong's ward.」
As Yue Wangdao entered the hospital room, he saw Pan Lirong, hooked up to an IV drip, lying prone on a propped-up bed and waving him over.
He hurried forward a few steps and said reproachfully, "Mr. Pan, surgery is a big deal. How could you have it done without saying a word?"
"I only found out by chance from soone else!"
"Mr. Yue, please, have a seat!"
Once Yue Wangdao was seated in the chair by the bed, Pan Lirong explained through the pain in his lower back, "Everyone's busy, and it wasn't a life-or-death surgery. There was no need to make a big fuss."
Yue Wangdao accepted a cup of tea from Pan Lirong's wife, thanked her, and then said with a sigh, "Still, it's surgery. You should let your friends know."
"You're being too distant."
Yue Wangdao chided him again before asking with concern, "Mr. Pan, from the looks of it, the surgery must have gone smoothly?"
Pan Lirong smiled, his voice buoyant. "Mr. Lo said that after a good recovery period, I can't promise any running or jumping, but playing a round of golf together shouldn't be a problem."
As he spoke, he even flexed his lower leg to prove he wasn't exaggerating.
Yue Wangdao said in surprise, "That's more than smooth, that's a huge surprise!"
"Mr. Pan, I know a thing or two about your condition."
"Did you find so kind of miracle worker?"
Pan Lirong said mysteriously, "I did indeed et a miracle worker, and it's soone you know."
"Soone I know? Who?"
Pan Lirong was about to speak, but as he lowered his leg, the movent was a little too forceful and sent a jolt of pain through his lower back.
The pain made the corner of his mouth twitch.
Seeing his pained expression, Yue Wangdao asked with concern, "Aren't you on a pain pump?"
Pan Lirong gritted his teeth, waiting for the pain to subside. "I'm not using one. That thing isn't very good for your back."
"I just had the doctor prescribe so painkillers."
He chuckled. "For the past few months, my legs and feet have been numb. This sharp, clear pain is a reminder that I have my legs back."
Just then, there was another knock at the door.
Pan Lirong's wife got up to open the door. Outside stood a petite woman and a middle-aged man holding a fruit basket.
"And you are?"
The petite woman quickly introduced herself. "Hello, I'm Liou Ming. I also have a tumor in my spinal canal."
"This Friday, that young Mr. Yan is scheduled to perform my surgery."
"I ca over hoping to ask a few questions..."
Before Liou Ming could finish, a man's voice ca from inside the room. "Please, let her in."
Pan Lirong studied Liou Ming as she limped in and chuckled. "Originally, you were supposed to be the one to test this surgical plan."
"But by a strange twist of fate, I ended up being the test case."
"I can tell you with full confidence that Mr. Yan, despite being very young, is absolutely worthy of your trust."
"The surgical plan he designed was a success. Not just a success, an incredible one..."
After an expectant Liou Ming and her husband had left, Yue Wangdao said in disbelief, "Yan Feifan is the miracle worker?"
"How is that possible?"
"How old is he?"
"If I rember correctly, isn't he just a resident? Only one step above a rookie intern?"
Pan Lirong let out a chuckle.
However, his smile was a bit too wide and pulled at his incision.
He winced for a mont before saying, "I'm living proof, right here in front of you. You have to believe it whether you want to or not."
"Mr. Yan is truly an incredible genius. If it weren't for him, I would've spent the rest of my life in a wheelchair..."
Yue Wangdao struggled with the idea for a mont before finally accepting that Yan Feifan was the one who had saved Pan Lirong from such a dire fate.
He couldn't help but sigh. "It's a good thing you talked down that ti."
"If I'd had my way and relentlessly gone after him and his sister, who knows how things would have turned out."
Pan Lirong agreed wholeheartedly. "I'm starting to believe more and more in fate and destiny."
"Every little thing, it seems, is preordained."
Yue Wangdao wasn't a big believer in fate or destiny and changed the subject. "Mr. Pan, I also ca to see you about sothing else."
He said with a worried expression, "That fellow, Xue Jisheng, hasn't been seen for a while."
"He answers his phone, but he refuses to et in person. Just says he's feeling under the weather and can't receive visitors."
"So people are speculating that he's already skipped the country."
"Mr. Pan, we invested a lot of money in him..."
At nearly three-thirty in the afternoon, Yan Feifan's practice surgery was in its final stages.
Just then, the laboratory door was pushed open a crack.
A pair of bright, lively eyes peeked through the crack before the door swung open.
An excited Yan Ziruo strode in. "Feifan, Su Ye, I have great news for you..."
After taking a few steps, Yan Ziruo suddenly sensed that the atmosphere was a bit off.
She turned and saw Dr. Qin Ying standing behind the door, staring at her coldly.
"Dr... Dr. Qin... I'm sorry, I didn't see you..."
Yan Ziruo's stamring trailed off. She simply gave up, lowered her head, and scurried out of the room.
She did, at least, rember to pull the door shut behind her...
Her expression unchanged, Qin Ying walked over to Yan Feifan.
She looked at the new thumb being given its final sutures on the microsurgery workbench, nodded slightly, and said, "You can inform the patient with the missing thumb that there's no need to wait any longer..."
