Yan Feifan had also marked the location for the surgical window on his thoracic spine.
He and Wa Wei then took on the task of cutting the bone to create the window.
Once the surgical window was open, Yan Feifan beca a surgical assistant, helping Mr. Lo remove the tumor within the spinal canal...
As for Yu Suye, once the tumor resection officially began, she saw her aunt waving to her and left the operating room.
She first went to the locker room to change, then headed to the surgical observation gallery, where she quietly approached Yu Youbin, Yu Youlian, and the others from behind.
"Aunt, Uncle, Cousin!"
Yu Suye greeted them softly, but her uncle and cousin were too preoccupied to properly respond, just giving her a brief wave.
Yu Youlian, however, turned to look at her and said with a knowing smile, "So, the proud little princess of the Yu Family is actually doing grunt work like a junior nurse here at Binhai University Affiliated Hospital."
"I've really seen it all today."
Yu Suye chuckled sheepishly. "What can I do? I'm on their turf. If I want to learn sothing real, I have to swallow my pride and be humble."
Yu Youlian squeezed closer to Yu Youbin, making room for Yu Suye to sit down next to her.
She leaned close to Yu Suye's ear and whispered, "Knowing you, you're not one to put up with being treated poorly."
"Unless... there's one exception..."
Yu Youlian said slowly, "This young Mr. Yan has not only won your respect... but your heart as well..."
Yu Suye felt her face flush and quickly shook her head. "Aunt, how is that even possible?"
"I admit Feifan's dical skills are far superior to mine, and I truly respect that. But he's not my type at all."
"You know I like the rugged, tough-guy type, Aunt."
Seeing that even Yu Suye's earlobes had turned pink, Yu Youlian snorted. "It's 'Feifan this' and 'Feifan that.' Sounds pretty familiar to ."
Yu Suye explained defensively, "Yan Feifan is the golden boy of several bigwigs at the Affiliated Hospital. I'm just a guest here, so sucking up to him a little certainly doesn't hurt."
She quickly changed the subject. "Aunt, why are you here anyway? Are you discussing a business partnership with the Affiliated Hospital?"
Yu Youlian pointed a finger toward the busy Yan Feifan inside the operating room and said softly, "I ca for that 'golden boy' of yours!"
"Because of Feifan?"
Yu Suye was genuinely surprised. "Aunt, he's just a resident," she said, confused. "In terms of the hospital's procurent projects..."
Then a thought struck her. Her eyes widened in astonishnt. "That six-million-yuan research project he's heading?"
"Is the family's dical company doing that badly?"
"A small project of just a few million requires you to handle it personally, Aunt?"
Yu Youlian shot her a look. "What are you thinking? The company is doing just fine."
"I'm here to discuss a partnership with him. I want to see if we can automate his ethanol puncture injection technique for use in surgical robots."
Yu Suye let out an "oh" of understanding and nodded gently. "Aunt, you have such a sharp eye."
"I'm so impressed. You saw the comrcial potential of Feifan's unique skill right away."
Yu Youlian snorted again. "No need to flatter . I'll offer him generous terms for your sake."
After a pause, she added, "Since you two get along so well, you can be in charge of inviting him for coffee after the surgery."
Yu Suye agreed with a hum. "Aunt, Feifan doesn't drink coffee. Let's ask him to dinner instead."
Her tone grew animated. "Aunt, I found this amazing private kitchen that makes the most delicious Binhai ho-style dishes."
"It'll be the perfect excuse to go eat there again..."
On the other side of Yu Youbin, with a man in his thirties seated between them, was a burly man in his forties who looked to be at least two hundred and twenty pounds.
He turned to Yu Youbin and asked worriedly, "Dr. Yu, I can't make heads or tails of what's going on. What's your assessnt of this young Mr. Yan's performance?"
Yu Youbin, who also appeared to be in his early forties with a prominent nose and large eyes, nodded slightly. "From what we're seeing, the ethanol injected into the three tumors he punctured is having the desired effect. It's reduced the difficulty of dissecting those sections of the tumor by ten to twenty percent."
"This young Mr. Yan isn't just full of talk; he has real skill."
After a pause, he said gravely, "I have to admit, in his hands, that 'drinking poison to quench thirst' treatnt plan might actually succeed."
The burly man's face relaxed with relief. "If you say so, Dr. Yu, then it must be true..."
Just then, he heard Yu Youbin let out a sudden "Hm?" and quickly asked, "What is it, Dr. Yu? What's happened?"
Yu Youbin pointed a finger at the large, high-definition screen hanging overhead, which displayed the live feed from the surgery. "It's nothing serious. A vascular malformation has appeared underneath a section of the dissected tumor."
The burly man followed his finger and saw a small, tangled mass of red blood vessels on the screen.
He then heard Yu Youbin's voice again. "It's a fairly common comorbidity with tumors."
"However, the vessel's diater is only zero-point-three milliters. They'll probably have to call in a microvascular surgeon to assist..."
Inside the operating room, Lo Jun's brow furrowed at the sight of the small, tangled mass of blood vessels.
Complications were the last thing any surgeon wanted to encounter.
"Sir, let handle it!"
Lo Jun looked at Yan Feifan and asked for confirmation, "Xiaoyan, this is a vessel with a zero-point-three-milliter diater. For comparison, the vessels in a severed adult finger are about zero-point-five milliters."
Yan Feifan said confidently, "Sir, under Mrs. Qin's guidance, I've already begun practicing on zero-point-two-milliter vessels."
Given Feifan's track record, Lo Jun didn't question him further. He took a step back, yielding the primary surgeon's position.
"Alright, you're up!"
What followed was a flurry of activity in the operating room.
Yan Feifan needed to readjust the surgical microscope's magnification, the field of view, and the height of the eyepieces...
At his command, the circulating nurse ran out of the room at top speed, returning monts later, breathless, with a set of microsurgical instrunts suitable for suturing zero-point-three-milliter vessels...
This scene drew gasps of surprise from the many doctors in the observation gallery.
They understood the significance of the leap from a zero-point-five-milliter diater to zero-point-three.
In adult surgery, with the exception of special areas like the brain or spinal canal, a vessel diater of zero-point-five milliters is the absolute limit for most surgeons, even in delicate procedures like finger reattachnt.
The ability to work on vessels around zero-point-three milliters ant a surgeon could perform complex operations on children as young as two or three.
If they could handle vessels around zero-point-one milliters, it signified the ability to perform complex surgery on newborn infants.
Each of these descending steps in scale represented a monuntal leap in skill.
Yu Youlian had received a dical education from a young age. And though she was now a businesswoman in a managent role, her foundational knowledge of dicine was still strong.
She knew that this was not a leap that just anyone could make so easily.
Watching the slender suture needle on the screen pass skillfully through the vessel's delicate wall, Yu Youlian once again leaned close to Yu Suye's ear.
"Su Ye, you have my full support. Go get him..."
