A little after eleven in the morning, in the Diagnostics Departnt of the Affiliated Hospital.
When Yan Feifan saw Yan Ziruo push the door open, he asked curiously, "Sis, why are you back at the hospital? Aren’t you supposed to be resting at ho or out shopping with your friends?"
Yan Ziruo glanced around the empty office and asked, "Feifan, why are you the only one here? Where are your colleagues?"
Yan Feifan explained, "They’re from other departnts. When there’s nothing going on here, they go back to their own departnts to work."
Yan Ziruo just said, "Oh."
She hopped onto Yan Feifan’s desk, propping up her tilted body with one hand while pointing to her nose with the other.
"Feifan, take a look. Is the tip of my nose a little big?"
"And my eyes, aren’t they a bit narrow?"
Yan Feifan rolled his eyes and asked, puzzled, "Sis, why are you suddenly asking about this?"
Yan Ziruo sat up straight, her expression falling. "Little brother, the director of the plastic surgery center, Wang Chuan, called into the hospital."
"He found out I was the one who gave the plastic surgery information to that big entertainnt blogger."
"You’ll never guess this, little brother..."
Yan Ziruo lowered her voice and said conspiratorially, "It turns out Zhao Yuqi got her plastic surgery done right here at our hospital."
"Can you believe the coincidence?"
She added excitedly, "And what’s more, your analysis of her procedures was spot on. Completely and totally correct."
"Little brother, you’re amazing."
Yan Feifan processed his sister’s words for a mont, then asked with a worried look, "Sis, did Director Wang Chuan call you in to hold you accountable?"
Yan Ziruo shook her head. "He thinks an insider from the plastic surgery center leaked Zhao Yuqi’s information to ."
"He’s demanding I give up the person’s na."
"But there’s no one for to give up!"
Yan Ziruo snorted. "So I just insisted that I made up all the plastic surgery details myself."
Yan Feifan reminded her, "Sis, you could just tell him the truth."
"No way!"
Yan Ziruo said firmly, "That guy ignored at first, trying to intimidate . Then he resorted to threats and bribes..."
"I could tell he was a bad guy right away."
"Besides, he doesn’t believe soone could identify specific plastic surgery procedures just from a photo."
"Feifan, what if he’s the type who gets jealous of talent and is completely unscrupulous? What if he finds out about your gift and tries to sabotage you?"
Yan Ziruo warned her brother, "I’ve heard plenty of stories in the office about dical geniuses being frad by their colleagues."
"Little brother, you don’t have enough power to protect yourself yet."
"So let him aim all his fire at . I can’t let you get dragged into this. Worst case, I’ll just quit this hospital job."
"It’d be easy enough for to find a finance job sowhere else."
Yan Feifan said dismissively, "Sis, you’re overthinking things. It’s not that dark in the hospital."
Yan Ziruo said with a serious expression, "Doctors compete for fa and fortune, too. And wherever there’s competition like that, there will be people who play dirty."
"Feifan, you can’t be too careful around people."
She placed a hand on Yan Feifan’s shoulder. "You just focus on your work. I won’t let this ssy business involve you or distract you."
Yan Ziruo added a reminder, "Feifan, you should keep an eye on him. He also threatened to ss with your professional title evaluation."
Yan Feifan said confidently, "When my skills and qualifications are enough for a promotion, he won’t be able to stop ."
A relieved smile spread across Yan Ziruo’s face. "With your overwhelming talent, plus the fact that you’re a treasure in the eyes of many of the hospital’s top doctors, I’m not worried about your promotion."
"Still, Feifan, you need to be careful."
"It’s not the thief you fear, it’s being targeted by one."
Yan Feifan grunted in acknowledgnt.
Just then, Yan Ziruo spoke again. "Oh, I forgot to ntion sothing. That guy also seriously warned not to tell anyone that Zhao Yuqi had her surgery here."
"And you’re telling anyway?" Yan Feifan was a bit speechless.
Yan Ziruo giggled. "You’re my dear little brother, not just anyone. It’s better for you to have all the information so you can make your own decisions."
Yan Feifan nodded. "Sis, I’ll keep it a secret."
Then, Yan Ziruo suddenly jumped back to their previous topic. "Hey, Feifan, hurry up and tell . Is the tip of my nose a little big? And my eyes, are they a bit narrow?"
Yan Feifan stared at his sister’s face for a mont, then said seriously, "Not at all, Sis. Your features are perfect."
"Tell the truth!"
"They really are perfect, I’m not kidding!" Yan Feifan insisted.
Yan Ziruo’s eyes widened as she threatened, "Yan Feifan, are you looking for a beating?"
"Give it to straight."
Yan Feifan mumbled, "Natural is the most perfect..."
Seeing his sister’s little fist raised high, he quickly added, "Of course, if the tip of your nose were just a tiny bit smaller, and your eyes a tad bigger, it would create an even better visual impression for others."
He then asked worriedly, "Sis, you’re not actually thinking of getting plastic surgery, are you?"
Yan Ziruo lowered her hand and huffed, "That guy tried to tempt . He said if I gave up the na, he’d give free plastic surgery."
"Even if I had the guts of a lion, I wouldn’t dare let him operate on ."
"What if his scalpel ’accidentally’ slipped? I’d be disfigured!"
"My dear little brother, could you do this kind of plastic surgery?"
Yan Feifan mulled it over for a mont, then answered honestly, "Theoretically, yes. But I don’t have any practical experience."
He tried to persuade her, "Sis, any surgery, no matter how small, cos with risks of failure and accidents."
"Besides, you’re already beautiful. You don’t need any improvent."
Yan Ziruo shot her brother a sidelong glance. "Feifan, weren’t you the one who said I should find a rich heir to marry?"
"The more beautiful I am, the easier it is to find one!"
She urged him on, "You’d better work hard and beco an attending physician as fast as you can. Then you can do my nose and eyes for ."
Yan Feifan replied perfunctorily, "Well, you’ll just have to wait a while then..."
The two siblings chatted for a little while longer, and soon it was lunchti.
Just as they walked out of the general diagnostics building, they heard the overlapping sounds of ambulance sirens approaching.
Yan Feifan stopped to listen closely and could make out the sirens of at least ten different ambulances.
"Sis, it sounds like a major accident happened. I’m going to the ergency departnt to check it out. You go on and eat, don’t wait for ."
Seeing Yan Feifan dash toward the hospital’s east gate before he even finished his sentence, Yan Ziruo hesitated for a mont before jogging after him.
When Yan Feifan reached the east gate, he saw that all five ambulance bays in the ergency access lane were occupied.
The ergency departnt doctors and nurses, along with the paradics from the ambulances, were busy transferring patients.
Yan Feifan hurried to one of the ambulances and helped lift a patient onto a transfer gurney.
A paradic who had arrived with the ambulance pushed the gurney toward the ergency hall, quickly briefing the middle-aged male doctor on the other side: "Mr. Wan, the patient is male. Multiple fractures of the sternum and ribs, fractured fibula in the left leg."
"He has compressive internal injuries, internal bleeding, and is in hypovolemic shock. Blood pressure is 68. He’s already been intubated..."
After hearing the summary of the injuries and ergency treatnt, Mr. Wan of the ergency departnt turned to look at Yan Feifan, who was helping push the gurney from behind.
"There was a multi-car pile-up, and a bus overturned. We have a lot of casualties."
"Yan Feifan, if you don’t have anything else scheduled, the ergency departnt is officially commandeering you."
Yan Feifan stated, "Mr. Wan, just give my orders."
As they spoke, the gurney reached the ergency hall.
Yan Feifan, Mr. Wan, and several other dical staff who had rushed over worked together to transfer the patient to an ergency table.
While performing a quick examination of the patient, Mr. Wan instructed a nurse in her thirties standing nearby, "Mrs. Xv, please arrange for Mr. Yan to handle wound treatnt for the minor injury patients."
By this point, Yan Feifan had already put on a sterile gown and rubber gloves.
He had intended to assist Mr. Wan with resuscitating this critically injured patient, but after hearing the director’s orders, he followed Mrs. Xv directly to a trauma treatnt bay in the southwest corner of the ergency hall.
In less than a minute, Mrs. Xv returned with a patient and a young nurse to assist Yan Feifan.
Yan Feifan had the patient lie down on the treatnt bed and gently peeled back the dical tape on his right thigh.
A gaping, bloody wound opened up before his eyes.
It was a laceration twenty-three centiters long and one-and-a-half centiters deep.
Fortunately, it hadn’t damaged any major blood vessels or the bone.
Yan Feifan first administered a local anesthetic around the injury, then cleaned the wound surface and the surrounding area.
Next ca suturing.
Because the wound was so deep, it required deep internal sutures first.
Yan Feifan used absorbable sutures to stitch the torn muscle deep inside, then sutured the skin.
Finally, he disinfected and bandaged the wound.
After finishing, Yan Feifan looked up at the young nurse, who was wearing a mask and cap.
He saw her eyes sparkling as she said, "Mr. Yan, your suturing is incredible. It’s so smooth and fluid, it’s practically an art form."
"Your technique is the best I’ve ever seen..."
Yan Feifan’s gaze sharpened, and he cut her off. "What are you daydreaming about? Hurry up and help this patient out, then bring the next one in."
The young nurse ducked her head and quickly went to help the patient...
The second patient was a plainly dressed man in his thirties or forties with a sowhat dark complexion.
The wound was on his left shoulder and had already been given simple treatnt and bandaging at the accident scene.
Yan Feifan could see that blood had soaked through the clothing on his shoulder, and the muscles in his face were twitching from the pain.
Yan Feifan had the man sit on a chair.
His gaze swept casually over the man’s eyes, then, as if by reflex, snapped back to them.
Yan Feifan’s eyes bored into the man’s, sharp as an arrow.
There, he saw a flash of red...
