In a sleepy daze, Yan Feifan felt soone watching him.
He opened his eyes to a familiar face.
"Teacher..."
"Just stay put," Liu Jin said, holding Yan Feifan down as he tried to get up from the sofa.
Yan Feifan said, a little sheepishly, "I really have to pee."
Liu Jin chuckled. He watched as Yan Feifan, dressed in pajamas, rolled off the sofa, hunched over slightly, and scurried into the office restroom.
Seven or eight minutes later, having relieved himself and quickly freshened up, Yan Feifan ca out of the restroom.
This was Mr. Wang’s office. It was nearly four in the afternoon.
His head now clear, Yan Feifan guessed that after collapsing in the top-floor operating room, he had been brought here since it was close by.
’But who changed into these pajamas?’
’Mr. Wang? Or ng Yao?’
Yan Feifan walked over to the seating area and saw that the sofa bed had been tidied up.
A neatly folded blanket, sheet, and pillow were all stacked on the armrest of the long sofa.
Yan Feifan sat on the sofa, angled toward Liu Jin.
He took the glass of warm milk Liu Jin offered him and drank it in one go. His upset stomach settled a little.
"Teacher, did you need to see about sothing?"
Liu Jin smiled faintly. "I heard you collapsed from exhaustion in the operating room. I finished up so work and ca to check on you."
"And as it happens, you’ve just woken up."
After a brief pause, Liu Jin spoke again. "This morning, the new Party Secretary of the hospital, ng Huaxin, officially took up his post."
Yan Feifan let out a soft "oh," then asked with concern, "And you, Teacher?"
Liu Jin smiled. "I also got my wish. I’ve been formally appointed as the Hospital President."
"The new leadership team for our Affiliated Hospital was finalized this morning."
"However..."
Liu Jin sighed softly. "During the introductory eting this morning, Mrs. ng and I had a head-on clash."
Yan Feifan let out another "oh." He listened as Liu Jin continued, "It’s perfectly normal for the top two leaders to have disagreents at work, to butt heads and argue."
"The problem is, Mrs. ng had just arrived and was trying to stir sothing up to establish his authority. But his first big move backfired spectacularly..."
Liu Jin chuckled. "I can’t help but laugh just thinking about it. You should have seen the look on Mrs. ng’s face..."
At that, Liu Jin suddenly realized that he was the hospital president now. He shouldn’t be so flippant and gloat over another’s misfortune.
He wiped the smile from his face and said with a serious expression, "Feifan, this matter is directly related to you."
"You should know what happened..."
Liu Jin quickly explained, "The video accusing you of being selfish went viral, and the hospital was planning to hold a press conference to make a public response."
"Unexpectedly, Mrs. ng also arrived this morning to assu his new post, accompanied by the relevant leadership from the Ministry of Health."
"In front of the administration building, Mrs. ng was surrounded by a number of independent dia bloggers and gave his opinion on the viral video."
"You know, the usual high-minded platitudes—’serving the people,’ ’patients co first,’ that sort of thing. He also said that if the accusations against you were found to be true, the hospital would handle the matter sternly."
Liu Jin picked up his cup, took a sip of water, and went on, "After the onboarding formalities, at the introductory eting chaired by Mrs. ng, he first proposed taking action regarding the video to quell the firestorm of public opinion online."
At this point, Liu Jin’s expression turned grim. "Feifan, this Mrs. ng clearly already had it in for you. He directly proposed giving you a severe disciplinary action."
"Disciplinary action against ?" Yan Feifan asked, confused.
Liu Jin nodded and explained, "His main target was probably . He wanted to establish his authority as the top dog."
"But he’s clearly done his howork on you."
"He knew you had thirty-eight official complaints filed against you with the Ministry of Health under your real na."
"He also knew about your ’freelance’ surgeries and the high inco you’ve earned from them."
"He even slapped a label on you, saying you’re just in it for the money and lack dical ethics."
Yan Feifan listened quietly, his expression betraying no sign of indignation.
"Right when we were at a standoff, refusing to back down, a content creator irresponsibly spliced and edited the comnts he’d made upon his arrival. It made it look like he was declaring his intention to fire you, and it started spreading online."
"Under the circumstances, our argunt was put on hold."
"And we agreed..."
Liu Jin let out a soft breath and said in a heavy tone, "We agreed that any disciplinary action against you would depend on the public’s online feedback after the hospital issued its clarification on the video."
As he said this, Liu Jin watched Yan Feifan’s eyes and expression, but saw no trace of nervousness or worry.
"Feifan, are you still half-asleep, or are you just that confident in yourself?"
"How can you not be worried at all?"
Yan Feifan thought for a mont, then said with a serious look, "Teacher, my conscience is clear. I don’t care what other people say about ."
Liu Jin snorted. "I’d say you’re just confident because you have an ace up your sleeve. You know you have dical skills and career prospects that others can only dream of."
Yan Feifan gave a silly, noncommittal smile.
Liu Jin snorted again and continued, "At the press conference, Qu Ying represented the hospital and issued a clarification about the video."
"Her job was simple."
"She just had to truthfully state the facts about your recent collapse, so of the things you’ve done, and your specific weekly work and study schedule."
Liu Jin couldn’t help but laugh. "As soon as the video of the press conference was posted online, it imdiately generated a huge response."
"Especially from our fellow doctors in the dical field."
"They all left comnts saying that during their residencies, they were worked to the bone just interning in a single departnt, never seeing the sun."
"But for you to be training under four ntors across three different departnts, and still have the ti and energy for surgeries... they’re calling you a living legend."
"Loads of doctors also vented about how patients in the waiting room get upset when they leave for a al break."
"’Why aren’t you working overti? Can’t you see there are still patients waiting?’"
"For a patient, it’s just waiting in line once. But for a doctor, this is their daily life, day in and day out."
"In the patients’ eyes, doctors shouldn’t eat or rest. They should be on call twenty-four-seven to serve them."
Liu Jin shook his head with a sigh and continued, "A lot of ordinary people also left comnts apologizing to you."
"They said they only saw the surface of things—they saw you having fun, but they didn’t see your hard work and sacrifice."
"They apologized for their earlier accusations."
Liu Jin laughed again. "So netizens even dug up all the news reports and posts about you from over the years, compiled them into a highlight reel, and posted it."
"And..."
"You know that pro-bono surgery project you’re leading for disabled children at the orphanage? The orphanage responded too."
"All of the dozen or so disabled children you and Yu Suye have helped appeared online to express their gratitude and support for you."
"And on a more practical note..."
Liu Jin said, his face beaming, "Ever since the press conference was posted online, donations to the hospital’s public charity bank accounts have been pouring in like rain."
"A lot of people are leaving ’My heart aches for you too’ as their donation ssage."
"While the individual donations aren’t huge, the sheer number of people donating is overwhelming."
"As of three o’clock this afternoon, the finance departnt’s summary shows over fourteen thousand donations, totaling nearly 1.9 million..."
