The next day, Monday morning, Yan Feifan walked out of his bedroom to find his sister pointing her phone at him, recording.
"Dearest brother, it’s a new day! Hurry up and say hi to all our friends, new and old!"
Yan Feifan gave a haphazard wave. "Good morning, everyone," he said, before dashing into the bathroom.
After relieving himself, washing up, and drinking a glass of warm milk, Yan Feifan headed up to the attic, all under the watchful lens of his sister’s phone.
The attic bathroom renovation was finished. It just needed another day or two for the materials to cure and the space to air out before it could be used.
However, Yan Feifan had been inford the previous night that, given his current physical and ntal state, he needed to focus on rest and recovery for the ti being.
The plan to move in together was on hold.
While Yan Feifan secretly breathed a sigh of relief, he also felt a pang of disappointnt.
After a twenty-minute workout with Yu Suye on the terrace and a short break, they all went back to the dining room for breakfast.
Yan Ziruo fild the breakfast Du Qiu had prepared from every angle before finally putting her phone down.
Yu Suye couldn’t help but comnt, "Ziruo, I noticed that Feifan has over a million followers on the video site, but the view counts and comnts seem a little low."
Yan Ziruo explained with a professional air, "Those are just fair-weather followers from the initial hype. They followed on a whim; they aren’t real fans."
"Once we have more videos up and start attracting fans who are genuinely interested in the content, the engagent will naturally pick up."
She added, "From now on, I’ll be in charge of filming Feifan’s personal and professional life."
"Qu Ying’s team will handle the science-pop videos and articles, producing soft promotional content for the hospital, and all the video editing."
Yan Feifan reminded her, "Sis, be careful about privacy."
"It’s one thing to expose a bit of my own life, but if you accidentally reveal a patient’s private information, it could lead to serious trouble."
Yan Ziruo nodded. "Feifan, Qu Ying has warned about that over and over."
"I’ll be careful when I’m filming. If I have to or just can’t avoid it, I’ll ask for their consent first."
"And Qu Ying’s team will be careful during the editing process, too. They’ll blur faces and alter voices whenever possible."
After breakfast, Yan Feifan and Yu Suye biked to the hospital.
In order to get so following shots, Yan Ziruo unlocked a shared bike and tailed them...
When they arrived at the hospital’s ergency departnt, they ca across an interesting patient who had just been rushed in.
Seeing an opportunity for content, Yan Ziruo pulled her brother into the situation.
A passing car suddenly had a blowout, and a pedestrian nearby collapsed to the ground.
The driver of the car with the burst tire was terrified.
He didn’t even worry about damaging his car further; he just drove the unconscious man to the nearby Affiliated Hospital on the flat tire.
A preliminary examination showed that the man, who was in his thirties, had no external or internal trauma.
Yan Feifan theorized that the man had likely fainted from the sheer volu of the tire bursting.
There were many possible underlying dical causes.
Fainting simply from fright.
An acoustic neuroma.
Cardiac, cardiovascular, or aortic diseases.
A brain tumor or cerebrovascular diseases, and so on.
After the ergency departnt ruled out critical conditions like a cerebral hemorrhage or a ruptured aortic aneurysm, the next step was to wake the patient, obtain his consent, and then perform a battery of tests...
Around eight in the morning, with the arrival of Mrs. Qin, Yan Feifan’s day of learning and work officially began.
After getting Mrs. Qin’s permission, Yan Ziruo fild a few clips of Yan Feifan studying and practicing before leaving the office. She then excitedly went to track the progress of the patient who had fainted from the shock...
At noon, while they were having lunch together, Yan Ziruo reported on the test results for the patient who had fainted.
"The cerebral angiography found signs of atrophy in a small arterial branch in his brain."
"When he was startled, his blood pressure spiked, causing a severe lack of blood flow to that part of the brain, which made him lose consciousness."
"The patient has already been transferred to the neurology departnt for treatnt..."
Yan Feifan had just let out a small "Oh" when, before he could say more, Yu Suye cut in excitedly, "Ziruo, Feifan’s work and study schedule has been changed!"
"Mr. Wang held a conference call last night."
"Starting this week, Feifan only needs to work at the hospital from Monday to Friday."
Yan Ziruo gasped in pleasant surprise, then crowed, "Mr. Wang is so efficient!"
"Excellent, excellent! He deserves a dal!"
Just then, she noticed her brother didn’t look happy at all. "Hey, Feifan," she couldn’t help but ask, "you don’t seem very pleased, do you?"
Yan Feifan said glumly, "I don’t want to be treated like a porcelain doll. I feel perfectly fine."
"A packed schedule gives a sense of purpose and satisfaction. Having two days off a week will just leave feeling a bit lost."
"Workaholic!" Yu Suye retorted.
"Masochist!" Yan Ziruo took it a step further.
She chuckled mischievously. "Oh, Feifan, you won’t have ti to feel empty or lost on your days off. We’ll make sure your life is full of excitent."
"This week, we’ll go camping. With two days off, we can even stay overnight..."
Yan Feifan quickly cut her off. "Sis, I have a lot of surgeries this week. It’s very likely I won’t be able to take two days off."
"Don’t get ahead of yourself with the plans..."
Yan Feifan’s words proved to be prescient.
At two in the afternoon, he received a definitive answer from Lv Xin, the young nurse in the ergency departnt. She had made up her mind to go through with the full-face costic surgery.
And she was still set on the two-hundred-thousand-yuan package.
Rembering he still had Tang Qing’s targeted costic surgery this week, Yan Feifan had no choice but to schedule Lv Xin’s procedure for Saturday.
At nearly four in the afternoon, Yan Feifan received a response from Dr. Qiu Ge. She said she was seventy percent confident she could perform the cranial base tumor resection.
Of course, it was highly likely the patient would suffer so post-operative side effects related to motor or sensory functions.
For a brain tumor of this nature, that success rate and prognosis were actually quite good.
Afterwards, Yan Feifan relayed Dr. Qiu Ge’s assessnt to Lu Yao over the phone.
"Lu Yao, given the patient’s tumor, this is the best we can offer. We can’t make any guarantees."
"If the patient agrees, have them co to the Affiliated Hospital as soon as possible."
The words had barely left Yan Feifan’s mouth when Lu Yao’s troubled voice ca through the phone.
"Well... Mr. Yan, the patient is a Chinese-Arican, and he’s sowhat prejudiced against the dical facilities and surgical expertise here in China."
"Mr. Yan, it’s highly likely we’ll need you to travel to the United States to perform the surgery. We’ll handle all the arrangents on our end."
Yan Feifan, who was already reluctant to take on this patient, replied bluntly, "If he’s so prejudiced against our dical system, why did he co looking for ?"
"He can take it or leave it. I’m not going to the United States."
"That’s final."
With that, Yan Feifan hung up without waiting for a reply.
Just as his shift was ending, Yan Feifan got another call, this ti from Zhao Xiaoting.
She chirped happily over the phone that Xuan was thrilled with her nose, and the five-million-yuan bonus was in the bag.
Yan Feifan asked with a laugh, "So what do you get out of all this?"
"Hee hee! Xuan is shooting a major series in the second half of the year. She’s the female lead, of course."
"And I get to play a role too! I’m the third female lead, you know! Hee hee."
Yan Feifan gave a soft "Oh," and said casually, "Congratulations. Hope you make it big soon."
"Thanks for the good wishes!" Zhao Xiaoting said cheerfully.
After a brief pause, her voice ca through the phone again. "Mr. Yan, that celebrity friend of Xuan’s is coming to Binhai tomorrow for an endorsent event."
"She’ll most likely co to your clinic for a consultation in the evening."
Yan Feifan said, annoyed, "Don’t use the word ’likely.’ I need a definite yes or no, and a specific ti."
"Am I supposed to wait around for her all night?"
"Mr. Yan, I can’t get a definite answer... Alright, alright, I’ll talk to them right now..."
After ending the call with Zhao Xiaoting, it was finally ti to leave work.
Yan Feifan and Yu Suye packed up their things, left the office, and were walking out of the ergency departnt’s main hall when soone blocked their path.
It was Tang Zheng’s fiancée, Shao Dalei Lin.
