Instead of seeing his amazent and praise, she received a few rather gloomy words. Nora Scott was puzzled for a mont, squeezed her phone, put it in her pocket, and then walked over slowly.

As she got closer, Pedro Langley’s eyes grew deeper, with emotions surging in their depths.

When she was just one step away, Pedro suddenly reached out, grabbing Nora’s wrist and pulling her in front of him, hugging her in his arms with a smooth move.

"You—"

"Who are you trying to scare to death?"

Nora was caught off guard. The bones in her wrist ached intensely as she opened her mouth to make a sound, only to hear Pedro’s low reprimand, deep and hoarse, full of anger.

"Huh?"

Startled, Nora slightly raised her head.

What she t was Pedro’s worried yet angry gaze. She paused, belatedly savoring the situation.

"It’s just this height..."

Suddenly feeling a bit guilty, Nora awkwardly defended herself.

Pedro’s brow furrowed tightly, his eyes dark as if they could drip water. He clenched his teeth and said, word by word, "Say that again?"

"I already jumped."

Nora resigned to her fate.

There’s no way she could jump back and go through the stairs again, right?

Pedro was exceedingly angered by her attitude. Yet, there was logic in her words, so he could only warn with a sullen face, "No next ti."

"Oh..." Nora paused in her words, then raised her eyebrows and asked, "What about when we escape?"

"..."

Escape?!

She’s planning to escape!

No matter how much he tried to endure, Pedro was on the verge of going berserk, imdiately asking with irritation, "What do you usually do?"

"Just..." fighting and being carefree in the Martial World.

Noticing Pedro’s increasingly unpleasant expression, Nora wisely swallowed the latter part of her sentence.

"Sotis," Nora stretched her small arm upwards, pointing at the window on the second floor, "I ss around a bit."

"And then rely on breaking your leg, or being half-paralyzed, to scam soone into taking care of you for life, is that it?"

Pedro, overwheld with anger, spoke with a mocking tone.

"How can you say that—"

Facing his glare, Nora not only didn’t toughen up but felt a bit guilty. She slightly lowered her eyelids, avoiding his eye contact, awkwardly trying to break free.

"Let go, it’s hurting."

"No."

Instead, he held her even tighter.

"Not eating?"

"Not hungry."

!

Nora reached her limit.

She looked up again, wanting to criticize, but those eyes, dark as water and mixed with anger and worry, stirred sothing in her heart, making her confused heart soften again.

Nora poked his side with her finger, softly reminding him, "There are a lot of people."

Quite a few were craning their necks to watch.

"Yeah."

Pedro remained unmoved, his face unbecomingly thick-skinned.

"You really are..."

She murmured sothing under her breath which she didn’t finish, then suddenly looked up, getting close.

Pedro was stunned, and his grip on her relaxed slightly.

Taking advantage of his distraction, Nora smoothly broke free, but she didn’t depart. Instead, she clasped his wrist with her other hand, pulling him towards the alleyway.

"Let’s go, I’ll take you to let off steam."

Nora said lazily, her voice carrying helplessness and indulgence, light and airy.

She was clearly coaxing him.

Strangely, the towering anger rolling in his chest was easily suppressed by her gesture and words.

With a twist of his wrist, Pedro grabbed Nora’s hand, engulfing her entire hand in his.

Nora glanced at him sideways, paused slightly, and didn’t dodge or pull away, allowing him to hold her like that.

*

The streetlight at the corner of the alley was broken, shrouding the surroundings in darkness. There were few pedestrians, and even those who intended to pass would rather take a detour.

Two cars were parked at the end of the alley, with the people inside observing a barbecue shop through the rear-view mirror.

However, the multitude of vehicles over there, combined with a wall obstructing the view, severely hindered visibility, leaving them clueless. A few minutes later, they simply gave up, no longer staring constantly, just waiting for that car to co out.

The car windows rolled down one by one, filling the interior with smoke, continuous talking, and laughter.

In the second car, the rear door was pushed open, and a buzz-cut man got out, swearing and frowning impatiently, jamming a cigarette into his mouth, and lighting it with a flick of the lighter.

The fla licked the cigarette tip, and it ignited instantly.

Extinguishing the lighter, the buzz-cut man took a deep drag, the smoke swirling in his mouth, rolling through his lungs, then releasing with pleasure in circles, feeling particularly satisfied.

In the midst of this comfort, the buzz-cut man suddenly sensed sothing amiss—

Tap. Tap. Tap.

The heels of a lady’s high-heeled shoes lightly tapped against the uneven ground, unusually abrupt in the cool, dark night.

Accompanied by steady, calm footsteps.
