Doing charity, are we?

The assistant inhaled slightly, tightened their fist, and with a tone of undeniable excitent, said, "It’s said that he owes Master Scott a personal favor."

Barton Mansfield’s eyes suddenly widened.

*

Nora Scott sent Marcus Shaw and Oliver Scott back to school.

After climbing over the wall, the two returned along the original path.

"So, did you ask Andrew?"

With a raise of his arm, brushing past the branches above of the camphor tree, grabbing a newly sprouted leaf, Oliver Scott casually asked Marcus Shaw.

"Yeah."

Marcus Shaw nodded slightly, "Andrew Hughes really likes her, said there’s no problem following her."

"That’s good then."

Oliver Scott sighed in relief.

Although it seed a bit unkind to doubt Nora, leaving Andrew Hughes alone with her indeed made both of them quite worried.

Now that Andrew Hughes himself said it’s fine, then following Nora shouldn’t be a problem.

"So, tell ."

Suddenly pausing, Marcus Shaw turned to the side, looking him up and down with a slightly scrutinizing gaze.

Oliver Scott froze, "What?"

Marcus Shaw asked, "Why did you skip class?"

"Oh..."

Oliver Scott lowered his head, covering the back of his neck with his hand, lightly scratching, his brows slightly furrowed, seemingly hesitating.

Marcus Shaw stood in place, said nothing, didn’t push, quietly waiting for him. His usually cold and indifferent features were touched with a bit of softness in the afternoon sunlight.

A gentle breeze swept through the pathway, mildly cool, wrapped with the fresh and clean scent of spring, brushing past skin, hair tips, and clothing hems, comfortable and quiet.

This place was close to the teaching building and playground; during break ti, students’ noisy chatter was vaguely audible through the layers of lush trees, sounding as if from a distance.

After a mont, Oliver Scott lifted his eyes, slightly awkward, "My parents are getting a divorce."

He had never told classmates or friends about family matters.

Family matters are hard to judge by an outsider.

Moreover, people their age couldn’t change anything, could only watch as things unfolded.

However, since Marcus Shaw held the status of an "older brother," talking about it seed less difficult.

Marcus Shaw quickly understood, "Because of Sis?"

"Sothing like that."

"Oh."

Marcus Shaw responded, turning and leaving.

Seeing his reaction, Oliver Scott was taken aback, quickly catching up to him, suspiciously asking, "You just asked, aren’t you going to comfort ?"

"Can’t help."

Marcus Shaw glanced at him.

"...Then what can you help with?" Oliver Scott curiously asked.

After thinking for a mont, Marcus Shaw answered, "Delivering love letters or sothing."

"!!!"

Oliver Scott looked at him in surprise.

Marcus Shaw seed displeased, "What kind of look is that?"

Suddenly intrigued, Oliver Scott climbed onto his shoulder, "If Nora weren’t my sister and was single, would you deliver a love letter for ?"

"No."

Without thinking, Marcus Shaw answered simply and clearly.

"Huh?"

Oliver Scott tilted his head slightly.

With a side glance, eting his gaze, Marcus Shaw calmly tossed out the reason, "I’d get beaten by her."

"..."

Stunned for a couple of seconds, Oliver Scott suddenly laughed, his hand lightly pressing against his waist, laughing heartily.

The boy’s smile, in the warm spring sun, was bright and dazzling.

All worries and troubles seed to vanish in this mont.

*

Scott family villa.

Downstairs, there were heart-wrenching screams, sharp and piercing, with the owner of the voice clearly on the verge of collapse.

Sophie Scott sat on the window seat, her legs bent, hugging her knees with both hands as she leaned forward, listening numbly, expressionless, without any reaction.

Finally, as the sky gradually darkened, the screaming on the first floor ceased.

Alma Ferreira relinquished her struggle, escorted out by the driver and Lisa, faint engine sounds could be heard, but soon after, there was silence.

Suddenly, Sophie Scott took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled.

Tears unknowingly filled her eyes again.

The phone vibrated, ssages popped up one after another in a certain group chat.

[Just asked an elder, Alma Ferreira is indeed the howrecker who broke up the original pairing with Ernesto Scott, then sched her way into becoming the next wife.]

[So people keep calling others illegitimate children, but don’t even know how they ca about themselves.]

[Such a juicy story. Everyone thought Nora was secretly born, turns out she’s actually the rightful firstborn.]

[Heard Nora has a short temper, can’t believe she hasn’t torn soone’s mouth apart, she’s really rciful.]

[Never seen Nora at any gatherings, otherwise would really want to get to know her.]

[ too, watched her live stream, seems like a cool girl.]

...

Seeing these ssages, Sophie Scott bit her lip hard, holding her breath until she nearly couldn’t continue.

The ssages made her blood boil, and Sophie Scott simply turned off her phone.

The villa area was very quiet, silent. The night breeze wafted gently through the open window, bringing no sound at all.

There was dead silence in the air.

The night grew darker and darker.

Until—

"Master, you’re back." Lisa’s voice ca from the courtyard, "Madam just returned to the Ferreira family, Miss is in her room."

Afterward, there was Oliver Scott’s fresh voice, clean and relaxed, seemingly carefree and without any worries.

Sophie Scott, filled with frustration, slamd the window shut.

She accidentally trapped her fingers with the window, causing sharp pain, making her gasp. She bit her lip tightly, with fine beads of cold sweat forming at her back, soaking through her thin shirt.

"Knock, knock, knock."

Soon, there was a knock on the door.

Then ca Oliver Scott’s testing and cautious voice, "Sis?"

"..."

Sophie Scott remained silent.

There was a brief silence outside.

Seemingly convinced she was inside the room, Oliver Scott didn’t leave but leaned against the door, his voice neither too loud nor too soft, "Are you alright?"

"..."

How could she be alright?

Sophie Scott sneered inwardly.

"We haven’t talked in a while, have we."

"I’m a bit sorry, always knowing you’re in a bad mood, yet not knowing what to say to you."

Sophie Scott buried her face into her knees.

"I heard about Mom and Dad," Oliver Scott continued, "Mom definitely took it out on you, she acts on impulse and never finds fault in herself."

"If they want a divorce, let them, maybe it’s for the best. Don’t listen if Grandpa asks you to diate, I’ll visit the Ferreira family over the weekend."

"Lisa gave a business card, said Dad gave it to her, I think..."

Upon hearing this, Sophie Scott suddenly raised her head, shouting amidst her tears, "Do you also think I’m sick?"

The voice outside abruptly stopped.

A few seconds later, Oliver Scott’s voice sounded, "Sis, that’s not what I ant."

"I think you probably lack communication."

"You don’t have to find a doctor, I’m here, I can be a great trash can. Don’t bottle things up, you can tell anything."

Oliver Scott spoke slowly, his voice slightly lower, every word gentle.

Sophie Scott whimpered softly.

Not long after, Oliver Scott added, "Your favorite artist is having an exhibition in Fenton City over the weekend, I’ve got two tickets."

"Also, a batch of new movies has been released recently, I heard two of them are pretty good. If you want to go, just let know, I’ll accompany you anyti."

"The new sumr clothing collection is also coming out. I’ll go shopping with you, this ti I’ll shop with you for the whole day, I promise not to complain."

"Co out for a walk, okay?"

The voice outside finally quieted down.

However, there were no footsteps leaving.

For so reason, Sophie Scott suddenly lifted a hand, wiping her tears harshly with the back of her hand, stepping down from the window seat, barefoot on the wooden floor, slowly heading to the door.

Her fingers covering the cold handle, twisting it down, the door lock clicked open.

"Sis—"

Hearing the door open, Oliver Scott, who had been racking his brain for topics, seed a bit surprised, his eyes lighting up instantly, as if catching a glimr of hope.

However, what greeted him was a pair of cold eyes, filled with disgust and repulsion.

That gaze, like a bucket of cold water, drenched Oliver Scott thoroughly.

Sophie Scott stared at him coldly, speaking word by word, "Do you know why I hate you?"
