Nora Scott was awakened by thirst in the middle of the night.
With her eyes half-closed, she turned over, wanting to nudge Pedro Langley to get so water for her, but when she reached out, she found nothing but emptiness beside her. The space was cold and unoccupied.
Nora’s eyes suddenly widened, and her sleepiness was gradually dispelled.
Huh?
Though on weekends she occupied the master bedroom at Pedro’s place to give Marcus Shaw a peaceful morning, forcing Pedro to sleep in the side room, Pedro would usually sneak back into the bed after a short ti. Whenever Nora woke in the middle of the night, she would always see him imdiately.
Propping herself up on her elbow, Nora sat cross-legged, rubbing her eyes and hair for a mont before she got up, pulled on her slippers, and walked out of the bedroom.
She poured herself a glass of water, took a sip, then vaguely heard the sound of a keyboard being tapped in the study. A bit surprised, she shuffled towards the study, grasped the door handle, and pushed it open.
The light from the opened door slit into her eyes, making Nora instinctively blink before she saw Pedro still sitting at his computer. His sleeves rolled up, exposing smooth arms, his long fingers tapping rhythmically on the keyboard. At a certain point, he paused, and two lines of sight shot over.
"Still not asleep?"
Nora asked as she stepped into the room, following a cleared path to his side.
She placed the glass of water on the table.
"I’m going on a business trip in a couple of days, need to finish this quickly."
Picking up the glass naturally, Pedro said, then slightly tilted his head back to drink. His jawline was taut, leading down into his shirt collar, his Adam’s apple lightly moving, inexplicably eye-catching.
Nora stared for a second before snapping back and reminding him, "I drank from that."
Putting the empty glass aside, Pedro smiled, pinching her hand, "I don’t mind."
He didn’t mind, so Nora certainly didn’t care.
She pulled her hand away, moved behind Pedro, and placed her hands on his shoulders, kneading them, "Can’t you finish this after you return?"
"The business trip will take quite a while, and I’ll need ti to adjust things when I get back, afraid I won’t have enough ti."
Having been coding all night, Pedro hadn’t spoken much, his voice slightly raspy, with a tactile quality in the quiet night.
"Oh." Nora bent over, wrapping her arms around his neck, resting her chin in his hair, "I’m recording a variety show next week, joining the crew in a few days. When will you be back?"
Grabbing her wrist, with no expectation, Pedro teasingly asked, "Will you miss ?"
"Ah."
It was undoubtedly a yes.
Honest and straightforward, casually unabashed. At such monts, it’s particularly touching, softening one’s heart imdiately.
Pedro’s heart was stirred by her, he slightly tilted his head to et her calm eyes, and earnestly said, "I’ll cancel my work right away."
"Get lost, you."
Nora chuckled, gently tapping his head with her finger.
Not to the point of wanting to stick with him daily, but taking ti each day to be with him made Nora feel most at ease and comfortable.
This man isn’t exactly funny or witty, and he often teases her. Yet, the more she looks at him, the more she likes him.
Nora could live contently without a phone or a computer, but since dating him, she’s been using her phone a lot more, taking it with her everywhere. Anything fun or worth ntioning, she imdiately thinks of sharing with him.
Not seeing him for ten days or so isn’t a problem. But once she’s with the crew, ti won’t be so flexible, and with Pedro insisting on a secret relationship, even eting up might be difficult.
"I have to be away for about half a month..." Pedro chuckled, then asked, "Which day do you record?"
"Saturday."
Pausing for a mont, Pedro thought about his schedule and said, "I’ll try to find ti to co back."
"I’m recording a variety show, what good is it if you co back?" Nora asked, puzzled.
"If you can’t solve your senior sister’s chanical Techniques, you might need so comfort." Pedro furrowed his brows, speaking seriously, "If soone takes advantage of this opportunity to get close, I’d lose big ti."
Nora was surprised, "I wouldn’t be able to solve it?"
"What if?"
"There’s no such ’what if’."
Nora dismissed the possibility with one sentence.
For others, Nora wouldn’t dare to boast. If there were any secret clans of chanical Techniques, she might indeed be embarrassed.
But being from the sa lineage as Evelyn Winter, though she might not know everything about her, she knew her tricks well. Besides, it’s just a simple show recording, not enough for Winter’s skill to shine... If Nora couldn’t solve Winter’s chanical Techniques, she’d be too ashad to face Antonio Easton in a hundred years.
After being shut down by her, Pedro pretended to think for a mont, teasingly asking, "So should I not co back?"
