The Foundation of the Eternal Empire.
Aurelion took so ti to listen to the story, he tried to comprehend it and when he ca up with a theory for the reason he thought would have been the deep talk Caelion talked about and interrupted him in middle of the story.
"NOW, I GET IT. FATHER MUST HAVE BROKEN AN WEDDING ENGAGENT WITH THE KNIGHTHEART DUCHY." He yelled.
Caelion took a pause, gazed at the ceiling pondering sothing then gave Aurelion a long stare. "I think, I can understand where that ca from but it’s actually the exact opposite of it." He rubbed between his temple.
"To understand this perfectly, I guess. I need to explain it to you in more simpler terms and not relying on diplomatic abilities." Caelion added.
WAIT, WHY DO I FEEL LIKE HE JUST INSULTED ? HE JUST CALLED DUMB, DIDN’T HE?
Caelion continued—
From the very beginning, the Eternal Empire was never ant to be ruled by a single overwhelming force. It was designed as a balance, carefully asured and deliberately preserved.
When the Aeternum Emperor who suggested the alliance of the three families, they also ford an unspoken and unwritten law.
The House of Valerius holds the imperial throne, embodying sovereignty and central authority. The Lunarisfamily governs the Magic Grand Duchy, safeguarding arcane knowledge, magical infrastructure, and the Empire’s mystical supremacy. The Knighthearthouse commands the Sword Grand Duchy, representing martial discipline, battlefield legacy, and the Empire’s aura-wielding elite. None stands above the others in structural importance. The crown may rule, but it does not dominate unchecked. Magic empowers, yet it does not command alone. Steel defends, yet it does not legislate.
From the earliest days of unification, it was understood that this balance must remain intact. If Valerius were to bind itself by marriage to Lunaris, the throne and arcane authority would rge, concentrating political and magical dominance in a single lineage. Similarly, Should Valerius unite with Knightheart, imperial command and military force would consolidate beyond equilibrium. And if Lunaris and Knightheart were to intertwine, arcane supremacy and martial prowess would form a coalition capable of overshadowing the crown itself. In any such union, one pillar would weaken while the others grew disproportionately powerful.
This was not rely a matter of internal hierarchy. The Empire’s diplomatic credibility depended upon the visible separation of its powers. Foreign states negotiated treaties knowing that no single bloodline held absolute control over magic, military, and governance simultaneously. Vassal territories accepted imperial oversight because authority appeared structured rather than absolute. The triadic order projected stability, preventing suspicion of tyranny or unchecked ambition.
Thus, alliances between the Royal House of Valerius, the Magic Grand Duchy of Lunaris, and the Sword Grand Duchy of Knightheart were carefully avoided. Not through written prohibition, but through shared understanding. The Empire endured not because its pillars fused, but because they stood apart—balanced, restrained, and mutually aware. Unity gave it strength. Separation preserved its stability.
Caelion gave all the comprehensive details needed to understand the backstory more thoroughly. Just like before, their QnA session started again.
YO, AUTHOR TOO MUCH INFO DUMP IN THIS Chapter. MY MIND CAN’T HANDLE THIS MUCH AT AT SINGLE TI. IS THIS MAYBE, ONE OF THOSE WORLD SETTING AND HISTORY ChapterS?
Author - I don’t think, you are supposed to break the 4th wall like this and spill my secrets out in the open like that.
Ti flew by, a couple of hours passed again, the dinner ti was already behind by so few minutes but both of them were so isolated in their own discussion that they did not even realize their own hunger.
"I see, so Father broke that unspoken law of the Empire by marrying mother but I’m back to square one again, what does this have to do with getting engaged? That too, with the Knightheart duchy which would an breaking the rule again." Aurelion asked for clarity.
"It is pretty simple at this point if you stress your brain a little. Once, the law is broken, it is broken. We can’t just hop on it in one generation and then continue in another." Caelion expressed more light on the issue.
"When 25 years ago, Aurex and Sel fell in love and their talks of marriage started spreading, which would have signified breaking the law. The balance between the three powers had already broken. The Knightheart Duchy had already started showing so subtle hostility, which we could not bla them for either as the unspoken oath was tarnished. The other nobles were also trying to take advantage of the situation and were plotting to create a war between the Valerius and the Knightheart,so they could reap the benefits while just sitting and watching two or maybe three great powers fall. So, when Aurex ca to ask my little sister’s hand from Father, I made him promise to that whoever their child is, they must marry into the Knightheart family to restore the broken balance of the three powers. And —"
"And that child just happens to ." Aurelion cut Caelion in the middle of the sentence.
"YES" He replied instantly.
"That’s the whole lore. I hope you understand the reason we needed to make such a decision." Caelion concluded.
WHOA, HE HAS SO INSANE DIPLOMATIC SKILLS. ANY NORMAL MAN WOULD TRY THEIR BEST TO LEECH OFF THE IMPERIAL FAMILY FOR GENERATIONS BUT TO THINK HE WOULD MAKE HIM SWEAR TO ALLY WITH AN OPPOSING SIDE TO MAINTAIN THE HARMONY. HATS OFF, MAN.
"From your expressions, I would guess that you have no further questions remaining." Caelion said.
Aurelion nodded.
*KNOCK* *KNOCK*
"Yes." Caelion answered. "Your Grace, will you be joining for the dinner or should I tell the servants to bring your al in the study"?
It was Rhael, he did not entered, just asked from outside. Caelion gestured Aurelion to wake up.
"Inform them that I will be joining with the Crown Prince." Caelion ordered. Rhael complied imdiately.
"My dear nephew, I guess it is ti for your First al with your fiance." Caelion chuckled.
